This was our first visit since the hotel reopened while visiting family. We always use the Cromwell as it comes highly recommended by friends & family in the area.
We arrived and noticed some changes straight away, as you enter they have a foot operated hand sanitiser, which I much prefer the less contact the better! A staff member was busy cleaning the banister but a gentleman behind the desk assisted us with check in, he was actually General Manager & very helpful. There is now a screen up in reception and the public areas where well organised & clean. The rooms have always been clean and nothing changed, the only difference is they have put disposable cups in the room. We had a drink on the terrace & this was organised and tables were distanced, they had a staff member explaining to everyone the new system as they arrived. Breakfast was great, order taken quickly and although there was less contact with staff they were helpful & friendly despite working under tricky conditions.
We will be back soon, we really enjoyed the stay.

We have been to the Cromwell on many occasions for different events, staying overnight once.
We always have been very impressed by the service we received.
The hotel rooms are very comfortable and clean, food very tasty, this includes breakfast when we stayed, as well as diners we have had at the entertainment evenings.
The recent Dolly Parton dinner was no exception, it was very well organised, Liz Rose kept us updated, and was very helpful, especially in this climate with Covid and not knowing if the event was going to happen,
Liz made sure we knew what was happening.
The show/ dinner itself was brilliant, we felt very safe with all the safe measures put into place to make the evening work ..looking forward to our next visit.

This is a very nice hotel, the rooms are very clean, nicely decorated and have great beds and showers. Breakfast in the morning was great too, although paying extra for a latte over a filter coffee seems a little tight but not a big deal.
Covid prep is a little off though, on arrival despite the receptionist having no queue we were asked to use self checkin - I don’t really want to be touching a screen that everybody else has if I can avoid it. There is hand sanitiser around but it’s not clearly marked. I’ve seen other reviews saying it’s not there, it is but you have to hunt for it 😄
Overall a very enjoyable stay, just needs some tightening up and it would be 5 stars

Thank you for your review, great to read the room was and the facilities were great. Sorry to read the Covid prep was off, we have had a visit from an independent company that have walked around the building with us following our Risk Assessment and they were happy with the work we have done, and passed us as safe to trade. The 4 doors have sanitiser next to them, they are a chrome foot operated stand, with a sign above them. So we have 2 in the hotel lobby and 2 in the restaurant. We wanted something that is in keeping with the rest of the building. I'll ask my reception team to point them out to people as they come in. Rest assured our reception team have a very thorough checklist of cleaning, which includes the screen, and we ask customers return their keys to the drop in the desk where we leave them until the next day and every key is sanitised before being reused. Hopefully we can welcome you back again in the near future. Kind regards, Dean Thompson General Manager

Checked in to room 113, right at the top of the hotel. So nice to stay in an individual feeling hotel rather than a big chain. Really unique room with fabulous decor, room was really warm, which was great for me!
Great selection of tea, coffee, hot choc and nice to get a biscuit! Only little thing that was missing was sweetener. Lovely hand soap, hand cream, shampoos etc in room too.

Such a comfortable bed, I stayed for 2 nights and had the best sleep. Breakfast was good I didn’t have anything cooked but the continental selection was excellent and very attentive service.

One of the nights we went to the hotels restaurant, I would highly recommend, I was in a party of 10 everyone’s food looked delicious and you get 20% off food and drinks

Can’t wait to book this hotel again next time I’m in the area!!!

My mum was recently given a treat of afternoon tea for two at this hotel.
Very disappointed from start to finish. On a beautiful sunny day, we were shown to the reception room that had dark wood panels low sofas and coffee tables and a table with two chairs and table with white cloth in the doorway.
We were asked what we wanted to drink.. No list of tea/coffee choices. Asked for latte but told it was not a refill option. Went for basic tea.
Had to ask for extra sugar & milk. Waited at one point over 20 mins for refill of tea.
Table too high for the chairs, not enough cutlery. One knife & fork each to cut sandwiches and serve/spread cream & jam. Scones crumbled as they were halved.
Maintenance staff (looking scruffy) carrying tables/stock past us.
When we just decided to call it a day and get out, I told receptionist we were done, who asked if all was OK. I said we were disappointed but will not make a fuss. She called another member of staff over who said, " what was wrong - you spoke to the receptionist?"
I then mentioned about the table and having to wait. Her response was "I should have said and we would have been moved, and basically called a liar about the waiting time.
Not an experience to repeat. Definitely go elsewhere, where afternoon tea is a regular-not where you are plonked in an unsuitable area and make not welcome!

After being surprised by my husband for a night away (minus the children!) I was overwhelmed with just how beautiful our suite was, the bedroom was immaculate, beautifully decorated and accessorised, nothing had been forgotten. Then as an added bonus we had our own private longe area (the room was split over two floors), this area was again exquisite and a wonderful place to enjoy a drink in the peace and quiet with my husband.

A special mention for the brilliant receptionist who’s welcome and enthusiasm really made me smile 😍

We enjoyed a few drinks in rump and Wade that evening and were greeted by extremely helpful and friendly staff, the same again the following morning when we had a delicious breakfast with the most helpful staff who couldn’t do enough for us even though it was extremely busy.

Thank you Hotel Cromwell for making my very rare night off a memorable one x

I booked an accessable room for two nights hoping it would relaxing for my partner and I. Friday night was wonderful, had a wonderful meal in the restaurant. When we got back to our room we realised it was an adjoining room and the people in there seemed to be having a little bit of a party. Loud music and talking and laughing for hours with no consideration for the neighbours.
We did not have a good night sleep at all.
Then came the terrible bit ! I asked for a wet room but I did not get one. There was some sort of a slope to get into the shower. I only have the use of one arm and my right foot doesnt work either due to a stroke and there was no way I could get into the shower let alone get out! I was in such a panic my boyfriend decided we were not going to stay the Saturday night. All along the staff have been wondeful, I cannot fault them. Whoever put the shower in the bathroom needs to think again. It is called a level access room for one reason only!!
Everything else about the room was excellent. Could park right outside the room which was brilliant .

Thank you for your review. I'm naturally disappointed to recieve a 3 star rating from you, as we usually thrive on 4's and 5's. I'm very sorry about the shower. These have been in place for the last 4 years, and we haven't had anyone raise this as in issue, there is a slight incline into the shower that a chair could be wheeled over. I'm sorry you werent able to use it. Demi, my Reception Manager called me to ask if we could refund you the 2nd night of your pre-paid stay as it was after the midday check out and I of course agreed to this. With regards to noisy neighbour, we have a Night Manager that is very good at asking people to be more considerate, and had you called him this would have been dealt with. I am pleased that you found all my team helpful and considerate and you had a lovely meal in Rump & Wade. Regards, Dean Thompson General Manager

We had our Christmas party at the Cromwell for the third year running. As always it was a brilliant night, the food was delicious & hot & the staff were professional & friendly. Some of the team stayed over & loved the rooms & breakfast was just as great as the food the night before.
We will no doubt return again this year as we just love it! Well done all the staff as they were very busy on the night we were there yet no one waited for anything.

We booked the Cromwell to host a gathering following my Aunt’s funeral & booked an accessible bedroom to reduce the travel and stress on the day itself.
The team who looked after us in the Cromwell Room were great - fabulous food and polite, helpful and attentive staff.
The room was lovely - just what we needed for a less mobile person & we were also able to part directly outside the room for easy access and unloading. Room service breakfast was very tasty and saved us the extra hassle of manoeuvring a wheelchair round to the restaurant.
Only minor issue was how warm the room was, but we didn’t ask for help with that so can’t complain that it wasn’t resolved!

To make use of the "Dine out help out" offer my friend and I decided on an Afternoon Tea at the Cromwell Hotel this afternoon and we were not disappointed.
The service by the "Operational Manager" was super efficient and attentive and the sandwiches, scones and cakes were fresh and tasty. We were offered extra tea during our 2 hour stay and werer very pleased to also be given a jug of ice water.
We enjoyed the A/C lounge setting and felt Covid safety measure were taken seriously with lots of space and staff wearing face masks.
Will happily return soon. Thank you and well done !

What was the cost of New Year dinner dance 2016? Any idea of the cost for 2017?
Answer from Dean T
1 contribution1 helpful vote
Hi Branko The cost for this year was £70 per person, this included a 4 course meal, with a coffee and mince pie station. This included a live act which we have already booked again for next year, called Uche Eke. I imagine the price will be in the same area as this year, some people wanted a drink included so this maybe reviewed. The package for staying overnight was £190.00 for Dinner, Bed and Breakfast.
