The Lansdowne Hotel is privately owned and has been in the same family ownership since 1912. It is this that has given the property a personal touch that is still very evident today. The Lansdowne occupies a premier position on the seafront overlooking the Western Lawns with extensive views of the sea and Beachy Head. The property offers 98 bedrooms, large lounges with sea views, bar, function rooms and contemporary restaurant, 1912 Seafood & Steak. Dogs are welcome.
Star ratings are intended to indicate the general level of features, amenities, and services to expect. This property is classified according to Giata.
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.

The Lansdowne in Eastbourne garners appreciation for its prime seafront location and charming atmosphere. Guests have called out the hotel's commendable cleanliness and comfortable rooms with sea views, though some mention that the decor could use refreshing.
While the staff's friendliness often earns praise, a few reviewers warn of slow service. Nevertheless, for many travelers, the hotel offers good value, with affordable rates and reasonably priced amenities, despite a few calls for updates in maintenance and air conditioning.

Well appointed family run hotel. The staff were extremely courteous and helpful. The suite we stayed in was very spacious and elegantly decorated with a separate bathroom and shower room. The king-sized bed was extremely comfortable. Great location and sea views but with no A/C the room was very warm during the day. Breakfast was good but special coffees and some egg dishes cost extra. We certainly will be returning to this hotel

I am delighted that you enjoyed your stay and elegantly decorated room. Although we have no plans to install A/C, we are exploring ways to reduce the room temperature during the Summer months. Speciality coffees are currently an additional cost during breakfast, however, we are introducing self serve coffee machines in the coming weeks and speciality coffees will then be included in the breakfast cost.

Our 3 night stay at The Lansdowne was just what we needed. Our room with sea view was spacious and very comfortable with toiletries, tea, coffee and biscuits all provided and our room serviced each day. We had fabulous weather which was an added bonus. The direct sunshine coming into the room made it very warm at times but fans were provided and it was our choice to have a room facing the sea and sun. We just closed the curtains when we went out to keep the room cooler. The breakfast was very good and plentiful and the staff were very polite pleasant and helpful. Location is perfect and it cost just £2.50 per day for a parking permit and we had no problems getting a space near the hotel. It was great

I stayed at the Landsdowne for the first time recently, and I was only there for one night for business.
I was extremely impressed by the hotel from first impression to last. I would highly recommend the junior suite (it was very reasonably priced during January), the room is huge, spotless and tastefully decorated. The bed was also huge and really comfy.
I did not eat in the restaurant whilst there but I had a complimentary breakfast which was absolutely spot on.
By my own admission, I am very hard to please but I can honestly say the hotel met and superseded all of my expectations.
The only slight issue was that the WIFI was a bit patchy and it was difficult to work on the laptop, they may offer an upgrade to boost the connection but I didn't ask.

We spent 3 nights here over the Easter weekend and the hotel amply met our needs. Our room was very clean although the bathroom facilities perhaps need an upgrade and my wife found the temperature too hot at night. We did ask when booking whether there were any large parties booked in and were told no, but on arrival were met with a large number of smoking wedding guests blocking the entrance staircase. However this was not something that the hotel could control. Fortunately even though our room was right over the entrance, we were not disturbed in the night. Clearly the hotel was busy and whilst the taking of breakfast orders at the door of the dining room supported the efficiency of the service, it was a little off putting to have to queue back into reception to get into breakfast. However both the breakfast buffet and the food at dinner time was really hot - something we do not often have the pleasure of. Whilst perhaps a little on the expensive side, the quality of the evening meals, including the Easter Day special menu was excellent and the portions plentiful We would recommend the sea bass risotto (which my wife had twice) and the pannacotta. Even the bread pudding, criticised by another guest, was in my case something very special.

Thank you for choosing to spend your Easter break at The Lansdowne and thank you also for sharing your thoughts. With a wedding and full hotel over the duration of your stay, it was a busy weekend. I am delighted that despite the high business levels, you were not disturbed and enjoyed your stay. I have noted your comments regarding the bathroom and heating. We have a refurbishment program and are working tirelessly to upgrade public spaces and bedrooms. Breakfast service is being reviewed in attempt to improve customer service and efficiency, however, on some occasions when guests all arrive at the same time, there will be a queue. I am delighted that you enjoyed all meals and chef is pleased that his bread pudding was appreciated.

We always look forward to and love staying at the Lansdowne when in Eastbourne. A lot of money has been spent on refurbishment and the Lansdowne is a comfortable and classy family run hotel with long-serving, excellent staff and service. Rooms vary in size but a lot have a sea view and we always manage to be in a bright, refurbished room - this time we had a bath with an overhead shower, which was lovely. Rooms with walk in showers are also available if you ask. Dogs are charged at £15 per night, which is expensive, but there are dog friendly public rooms and areas around the hotel. Our dog makes herself at home in the dog friendly green room, which is a cosy and comfortable lounge area with board games. The 1912 restaurant menu is great value and offers consistently delicious food. Although dogs aren't allowed in the restaurant we were allowed to take her in the front of the bar, which has dining tables, and is a comfortable area to eat, offering more privacy than the green room. All staff appear happy and are friendly and helpful, working very hard at the ever popular Lansdowne.

We just spent a lovely night at the Lansdowne, we were in one of the suites (room 316). The room was a large room with a sea view and looked recently refurbished. Considering the location and size of the room we found this hotel very good value for money, as some of the local B&Bs were charging practically the same price.
We had supper in the town and came back to the hotel for drinks before bed and it was lovely sipping cocktails in the comfortable bar area, the barman was friendly and attentive and made great cocktails.
Breakfast is self-service with lots of choice from cooked breakfast items, cold meats, cheese, pastries, cereals, yoghurt, fruit salads and juices. Waiting staff bring you coffee and toast and you can also order non-buffet items such as avocado on toast. Breakfast is served from 8-10, we went down at 9, the room was very busy at that time but there was lots of staff on hand to help. Food was replenished quickly and was nice and hot, we had the cooked breakfast and found the quality good.
We would highly recommend this hotel and would stay again.

The Lansdowne Hotel is in an excellent position. We liked the ambience of it and enjoyed our breakfasts each morning and were glad to have tables near open windows. Rose, who met us at breakfast most mornings was lovely. ( We ate out each evening.)
The weather was extremely hot during our stay and our cosy double sea facing room on the third floor was like a sauna! The windows only open a crack. We understand the need for safety but to have had fresh air coming in would have been wonderful. At least there was an electric fan which we had on maximum all through each night and at all times when we were in the room.
The shower cubicle had black mould on the grouting and needed a soap dish.
We liked the fact there were actually little bars of soap and small bottles of shampoo and body wash available as we find the big bottles fixed to the walls in most hotels these days cumbersome to use.

Thank you for the feedback following your recent stay at The Lansdowne. It as been exceptionally hot over recent weeks and unfortunately our sea facing rooms do get most of the sun during the day. We are exploring ways to reduce the heat and hope to be able to make the rooms more comfortable for next Summer. I have noted your comment regarding the shower cubicle and this has been rectified by housekeeping. To manage expectations, I should advise that we have recently installed larger bottles of shampoo, body wash and hand wash in our bathrooms. This has removed the use of single use plastics in all guest bathrooms and along with our 100% recycled toilet paper (zero plastic packaging), demonstrates our commitment to Plastic Free Eastbourne.

The hotel had the bare minimum of amenities in its rooms. A kettle with limescale and a fan which was filthy. We had only two coffee sachets per couple for each day.
The room was so hot with no air conditioning and window could only open slightly because of safety chain.
Decor in the rooms was dated and the room felt dark and slightly claustrophobic.
Only good point was the breakfast and the reasonable charge for daily parking permit.
Price wise it was probably worth about £80 per night. I wouldn’t recommend to friends

It's a beautiful old world hotel with excellent views and lots of lovely, old-style public rooms. They do great afternoon teas, you can get dinner in the restaurant or the bar, and all of the staff were very friendly and helpful.
They have a range of afternoon tea options from simple scones through to elaborate multi-tier cake trays.
The hotel is grand but homely, with excellent service. All of the lounges and public rooms were classic old world comfortable and organised so that you always thought you were in a small group of your own and not part of a giant public space.

I always double check on breakfast included when I book and it was and was good. The evening meal wasn’t included but was good value and a variety of prices. Our first room had a walk in shower but not alit of room to manoeuvre they do have rooms with twin beds but again I would phone the hotel direct to book and discuss at the time your needs. There are 2 lifts quite small and there is a lift up the steps at the front of the hotel as well as the normal entrance but check this is working they are currently waiting for a part. Alit of people using the hotel we’re older with frames and sticks and nothing was too much of a problem for the staff to help when necessary.
Because it is cheaper to book woth Best Western than with Booking. Com or Agoda etc
I saved £20 a night booking direct with Best Western instead if Booking. Com
