The Lansdowne Hotel is privately owned and has been in the same family ownership since 1912. It is this that has given the property a personal touch that is still very evident today. The Lansdowne occupies a premier position on the seafront overlooking the Western Lawns with extensive views of the sea and Beachy Head. The property offers 98 bedrooms, large lounges with sea views, bar, function rooms and contemporary restaurant, 1912 Seafood & Steak. Dogs are welcome.

The Lansdowne Hotel in Eastbourne garners praise for its prime seafront location and charming atmosphere, with guests often returning thanks to the attentive service provided by friendly staff. While the rooms offer comfortable sea views and are kept clean, some reviewers have suggested they could benefit from refurbishment and air conditioning. The hotel's breakfast is a hit, but opinions on value show a divide, with parking fees seen as reasonable by some, yet others point out high room rates and dining costs.

This is a classy up-market seafront hotel in the old school tradition with multiple beautifully maintained public rooms on a seafront location all of it enhanced to the maximum by proficient, friendly staff. The room was large, spotlessly clean with a very comfortable bed and a superb shower. I cannot think of another hotel that has exceeded my expectations as much as the Lansdowne.

The recently decorated sea view room met all of our needs. It was nice to have a clear view of the sea across a green area which was litter free! Overall the room was comfortable, a good size and clean and bright. Space outside the hotel for loading and unloading made up for the fact that sometimes parking needed to be a few minutes walk away along the front.

The downstairs lounge areas were very well furnished and comfortable to relax in and staff were on hand and attentive without being intrusive.

The evening meals were well presented and nicely cooked, although vegetables were too scarce for our liking and there was a very limited choice of them available as "extras". There were however plenty of dishes to choose from on the menu and we found the "nibbles" a very acceptable sharing starter. At breakfast the boiled eggs, available by request, had not spent much time being boiled as the whites were like water. This was willingly rectified but it is something that has been noted on a previous review so it seems that someone in the kitchen does not know how long an egg should be boiled for.

Staff were consistently pleasant and seemed to genuinely want to serve guests well, although one little personal niggle for me was being called "my lovely" by one member of staff in the restaurant, which I felt uncomfortable with. It gave a level of familiarity which was out of keeping with the general ambience of the establishment.

Nevertheless it is reassuring that alongside other run down and closed down hotels along Eastbourne's front, the Lansdowne has maintained a very high standard of accommodation. Certainly if we need to stay in Eastbourne again we will not be looking elsewhere.

Well appointed family run hotel. The staff were extremely courteous and helpful. The suite we stayed in was very spacious and elegantly decorated with a separate bathroom and shower room. The king-sized bed was extremely comfortable. Great location and sea views but with no A/C the room was very warm during the day. Breakfast was good but special coffees and some egg dishes cost extra. We certainly will be returning to this hotel

I am delighted that you enjoyed your stay and elegantly decorated room. Although we have no plans to install A/C, we are exploring ways to reduce the room temperature during the Summer months. Speciality coffees are currently an additional cost during breakfast, however, we are introducing self serve coffee machines in the coming weeks and speciality coffees will then be included in the breakfast cost.

Our 3 night stay at The Lansdowne was just what we needed. Our room with sea view was spacious and very comfortable with toiletries, tea, coffee and biscuits all provided and our room serviced each day. We had fabulous weather which was an added bonus. The direct sunshine coming into the room made it very warm at times but fans were provided and it was our choice to have a room facing the sea and sun. We just closed the curtains when we went out to keep the room cooler. The breakfast was very good and plentiful and the staff were very polite pleasant and helpful. Location is perfect and it cost just £2.50 per day for a parking permit and we had no problems getting a space near the hotel. It was great

We went on a two night deal from TravelZoo, the check in was mindful of my wifes mobolity issues, and re-shuffled the room from a half landing to a floor where the lift went, no stairs. .our initial room was so basic and a view over an alley at the back, bed was ok but looked well used and matress was sinking/dipped, this is apparently a standard room.. When we went to reception, they asked what we thought of the room my wife explained that I had said to her "it will do its just two nights", they then changed our room to one at the front of the hotel, wow what a contrast, lovely room and great view the hotel is on the sea front so now looking at the sea. Whilst I appreciate it was a deal, its an out of season deal, so the hotel is not full, so to put people in basic rooms, could have been counterproductive, if they are trying to entice future trade as well then better to offer the nicer rooms if available, or even as other hotels along the front are doing at this time, a small upgrade fee (£10) if you want a sea view/better room. The hotel itself has a lovely friendly atmosphere, very clean and tidy, plenty of lounge space and nice friendly bar. There is a restaurant on site, but we chose to eat out both nights. The menu was good and varied but as with hotels, on the pricey side. Breakfast was a full English buffet style or continental, with fruit juices and cereals also available, Tea and coffee via machines, first day the coffeee was nice but next day, was Bitter so I dont know if they had changed the beans, but a lot of gusests were commenting... The location of the hotel was perfect for going out for a walk from or a base to drive from...Plenty of on street parking nearby as well as disabled bays opposite. Would we go again, yes but would want a better room than the basic,

Many thanks for the feedback provided following your recent stay with us. The Travelzoo offer does state it is for a standard room and is also advertised as upgrades available from £20 per night. I am delighted that the reception team proactively upgraded your room at no cost on hearing your comments. I am sorry to hear that you chose to eat out on both nights. We run such offers in the hope of attracting some guests into our restaurant. Like every household in the country, we have been affected by a cost of living crisis with food prices continually rising. In addition, utility costs continue to rise, so too does payroll and various other costs associated with running a business. Considering all food items are prepared with fresh ingredients to order, we feel the prices represent good value, especially in comparison to some of our competitors.

I stayed at the Landsdowne for the first time recently, and I was only there for one night for business.

I was extremely impressed by the hotel from first impression to last. I would highly recommend the junior suite (it was very reasonably priced during January), the room is huge, spotless and tastefully decorated. The bed was also huge and really comfy.

I did not eat in the restaurant whilst there but I had a complimentary breakfast which was absolutely spot on.

By my own admission, I am very hard to please but I can honestly say the hotel met and superseded all of my expectations.

The only slight issue was that the WIFI was a bit patchy and it was difficult to work on the laptop, they may offer an upgrade to boost the connection but I didn't ask.

Considering cost of room the bedroom felt dated with look of furniture and little things like lights too bright and no dimmer switch. Only two sachets of complimentary coffee sachets so had to ask for more. No hooks to hand outside coats. Had to use very small wardrobe. Bathroom very small and dated. Shelves too small only cool water coming out of shower over bath. Gorgeous sea view. Good choice of buffet breakfast.

We spent 3 nights here over the Easter weekend and the hotel amply met our needs. Our room was very clean although the bathroom facilities perhaps need an upgrade and my wife found the temperature too hot at night. We did ask when booking whether there were any large parties booked in and were told no, but on arrival were met with a large number of smoking wedding guests blocking the entrance staircase. However this was not something that the hotel could control. Fortunately even though our room was right over the entrance, we were not disturbed in the night.
Clearly the hotel was busy and whilst the taking of breakfast orders at the door of the dining room supported the efficiency of the service, it was a little off putting to have to queue back into reception to get into breakfast. However both the breakfast buffet and the food at dinner time was really hot - something we do not often have the pleasure of. Whilst perhaps a little on the expensive side, the quality of the evening meals, including the Easter Day special menu was excellent and the portions plentiful We would recommend the sea bass risotto (which my wife had twice) and the pannacotta. Even the bread pudding, criticised by another guest, was in my case something very special.

Thank you for choosing to spend your Easter break at The Lansdowne and thank you also for sharing your thoughts. With a wedding and full hotel over the duration of your stay, it was a busy weekend. I am delighted that despite the high business levels, you were not disturbed and enjoyed your stay. I have noted your comments regarding the bathroom and heating. We have a refurbishment program and are working tirelessly to upgrade public spaces and bedrooms. Breakfast service is being reviewed in attempt to improve customer service and efficiency, however, on some occasions when guests all arrive at the same time, there will be a queue. I am delighted that you enjoyed all meals and chef is pleased that his bread pudding was appreciated.

We always look forward to and love staying at the Lansdowne when in Eastbourne. A lot of money has been spent on refurbishment and the Lansdowne is a comfortable and classy family run hotel with long-serving, excellent staff and service. Rooms vary in size but a lot have a sea view and we always manage to be in a bright, refurbished room - this time we had a bath with an overhead shower, which was lovely. Rooms with walk in showers are also available if you ask. Dogs are charged at £15 per night, which is expensive, but there are dog friendly public rooms and areas around the hotel. Our dog makes herself at home in the dog friendly green room, which is a cosy and comfortable lounge area with board games. The 1912 restaurant menu is great value and offers consistently delicious food. Although dogs aren't allowed in the restaurant we were allowed to take her in the front of the bar, which has dining tables, and is a comfortable area to eat, offering more privacy than the green room. All staff appear happy and are friendly and helpful, working very hard at the ever popular Lansdowne.

I always double check on breakfast included when I book and it was and was good. The evening meal wasn’t included but was good value and a variety of prices. Our first room had a walk in shower but not alit of room to manoeuvre they do have rooms with twin beds but again I would phone the hotel direct to book and discuss at the time your needs. There are 2 lifts quite small and there is a lift up the steps at the front of the hotel as well as the normal entrance but check this is working they are currently waiting for a part. Alit of people using the hotel we’re older with frames and sticks and nothing was too much of a problem for the staff to help when necessary.
