Nestled near the seafront, the Best Western York House Hotel delights many with its comfortable rooms boasting splendid views, although opinions vary with some noting the decor could use modernization and a more thorough cleaning. The hotel's atmosphere strikes a balance between a touch of the past and a convivial setting, with social events often celebrated by guests. Commendations are frequently directed at the attentive staff, yet service experiences can sometimes lack consistency.
Amenities like the enjoyable breakfast and scenic views are well-received, even as some guests point out room feature inconsistencies. The hotel's location is a standout feature, providing easy access to nearby attractions, which, along with reasonable rates, contribute to its perceived value.

Our second visit and still a great place to stay , all the staff were pleasant and helpful and seemed to enjoy working at the York . Special mention for Didas and Duarte who were attending the bar . Location is on the seafront and a 10 min walk to the pier or even less to the Crown and Anchor pub . Parking is not always available adjacent to the hotel , we were lucky and used the hotel’s parking permit to avoid the local very keen traffic enforcers . Breakfast was plentiful and varied enough to suit all tastes .Our room ( 144 ) was on the first floor and we found it spotless and I would guess recently refurbished, however it is classed as an Executive room meaning more expensive and larger than the standard rooms , personally we did not find it large , although very comfortable. I used the small pool and was the only person in there , very clean , lovely and warm . Will visit again , love the atmosphere

The staff were very friendly, the breakfast excellent, the pool (well it was January and I had it to myself) was clean and warm. We took 2 dogs which weren't allowed in the dining room but we sat in the bar and had the same level of service. Maybe it needs a little updating but that costs a fortune these days and I thought it was great value for money.

The hotel is across the road from the sea and just a short walk to the Pier and plenty of bars/restaurants around too.
We stayed on Friday night, we were greeted by friendly reception staff, we purchased a £2 parking permit which lasts 24hrs and is valid all along the seafront, bargain!
I saw so many negatives but the way I see it, you get what you pay for! We paid a reasonable price for a reasonable room, it was clean, had a tv, shower, bath, toiletries, clean towels, tea/coffee facilities and plenty of wardrobe space too, there is a smallish pool for which they provide free towels too!
The breakfast is served 7-9.30, a great choice of breakfast, see menu attached, we had a full English which was cooked fresh, help yourself to juice (lime, orange, apple, rhubarb), toast is self served (I did have to put it through 3 times to get it brown) but wasn’t a problem.
Overall I would recommend the hotel for location and price and would definitely return.

The good points, we were allocated a large sea view room, the bed was firm and very comfortable so we slept well. There is a small pool in the basement which had a pleasantly warm temperature. There was a large screen TV and all the power points you could wish for. Breakfast was good, but service a little disjointed. The niggles: We had dinner one evening, but the hotel does not cope with allergens well. They cannot supply a menu showing what allergens are present, and all you will get is "I'll have to ask the chef" and no further response. The towel rail in the bathroom is electrically heated. There are two buttons to operate this, at floor level, just outside the bathroom door. One is blue, one is green, they are not labelled as to their purpose. If you press the wrong one, you will trip the power supply to all the sockets (TV, Kettle etc) in your room, you will then need to contact reception to get your power restored. The hospitality tray contains just enough milk portions for one cup each, so you will need to continually ask for extra supplies, and if you would like a hot chocolate drink or biscuit with your tea, bring your own, as you won't find anything like that here.

This was Turkey and Tinsel w/c 18 Nov 2024. Booked thru Just for Groups - UK Holiday Group and only my 2nd TnT! The 3* hotel rooms were clean and functional, staff polite and helpful. My room view not great but still OK. As this was a Best Western , I was disappointed how little it offered to those staying for 5days TnT. For those deciding not to go on the pre arranged daily coach trips to into Brighton , Rye or Hastings, only swimming was available! NO Gym, NO Bingo, No quiz am or pm ... NOTHING to do in hotel ( I' m comparing this to last year's TnT at Warners Bembridge ... where archery, bowls , shooting and gym available). Hotel breakfast was self service, the breakfast area would've appreciated the occasional tidy up/ wipe down. For a TnT , the evening dinner was a limited and uninspiring set menu agreed the day before (non festive apart from the xmas pudding !). A late 7pm dinner , by the time we finished our evening meal (9 pm ) we were an hour down on the evening entertainment which started at 8pm to finish at 10pm. Bars closed far too early around 10.15pm without warning except on NYE when last orders called at 10.30pm. This hotel needs to offer more if its to continue as a TnT venue.

Dear 177wkyy, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience during your recent Turkey & Tinsel stay with us. I’m pleased to hear that you appreciated the location, the cleanliness of the rooms, and the helpfulness of our team. I’m sorry to read that some aspects of your stay didn’t meet your expectations. I’ve noted your feedback about the festive atmosphere and additional activities, and I’ll be working with our team to see how we can improve the Turkey & Tinsel experience moving forward. I’d like to clarify that our upstairs bar remained open after 10:30 PM, and we arranged for the entertainment to continue later each evening for guests who wished to stay longer. Your comments about the evening menu and breakfast service area are also appreciated, and I’ll be addressing these with the team to ensure improvements are made. I value all feedback as it helps us to improve, and I do hope we’ll have the chance to welcome you back in the future for a more festive and enjoyable stay. Kind regards, William

Ideal location directly on seafront. On arrival we were greeted by friendly staff who explained parking issuing a £2.00 per day parking permit, however if you have a blue badge parking was free of charge. A card payment of £50.00 was taken on arrival to cover any extra costs not covered in our package. Lifts were available to upper floors. Disable friendly. Breakfast and evening meal times were restricted to late sittings due to large coach party. This also impacted on service and choice. Staff were very busy clearing up from earlier sittings and not quite so attentive to greeting independent travellers. Food was good quality. Rooms were well serviced and we were lucky to have a complimentary upgrade to front sea view. Complimentary shower gel, hair shampoo, tea, coffee etc. A hairdryer was available but this did not work, not too much of a problem as I took my own. A few stains on curtains. Bed was huge and comfortable. One safety concern was a window which could be opened but not stay open, this appeared to have been a problem before as there was conveniently located stick/branch to prop the windows open. Our concern was the low level of the window which could be a potential hazard. This issue was brought to the managements attention and hopefully will be addressed as a matter of urgency. Overall a pleasant stay and will visit again.

A very pleasant stay at the Best Western York House Hotel. We received a very warm welcome by reception staff who were very informative and helpful. The room was spacious, clean, nicely decorated with a modern bathroom and a comfy bed. Dinner in the hotel restaurant was very impressive with great food and friendly service. The bar area is nice too, and we were served numerous times by a friendly man who was very efficient. Breakfast in the morning was fab. Hot food options to order, plus continental buffet options to choose from which was all very tasty. Parking was also very easy, as there is plenty of parking spaces outside the hotel and just £2 with a hotel parking permit. We very much enjoyed our stay and would definitely return.

Lovely stay for 2 nights with the wife and our dog. We had a standard double room with a fantastic seaview. The room was tastefully decorated with nice furniture, a very comfortable 'Premier Inn' style bed and there were fluffy new towels. Plenty of space for us and our dog and there was a blanket, a water dish and some treats for the dog. The bathroom and shower were very good, the shower was over the bath. Kettle and usual drink making items and no problem if you asked reception for more. The breakfast was lovely, there was a continental style buffet with cereal, fruit, yogurt, pastries and such like. A choice of fruit juices, the rhubarb juice was really nice. I had the full english from the menu and my wife could order whatever items from the full english with no problem. Basically ask for whatever you want and they will try to accommodate you. The bar area was nice and there is a nice seating area at the front of the hotel so you can watch the sea while having a drink. Parking is on the street but the hotel will provide permits for just £2 per day. We didn't go in the swimming pool but had a look and it looked great, especially for the kids. Check out was 11am so not rushed to get out either. All in all an extremely affordable family and dog friendly hotel. We only wished we could have stayed for longer. Tip : the restaurant is really good, but if you want to eat out, The Marine pub on the road at the back of the hotel does excellent food and isn't expensive.

I took my children on a little treat weekend away to the seaside and chose York House Hotel as it has a great seafront location, an indoor pool, and brilliantly appointed family rooms.
From our first interaction with the staff everyone was welcoming and friendly to me and my 7 year old twins (who were very excited!). The hotel was clean and festively decorated for Christmas; and our room was perfectly laid out with a double bed, single bed and a pull out sofa bed. Although we didn't have need for the sofa bed, if we had chosen to use it the room was huge so we would still have had plenty of room to move about.
We had an incredible sea view from our 3rd floor room, and we're cosy and warm even though it was a rainy and chilly night.
The pool and pool area was warm and clean, although a little dated in style that didn't take away from the fun and enjoyment for all of us.
Breakfast was served in the formal dining room overlooking the sea, we choose the continental buffet option (with great fascination gained from the automatic toaster) and we're looked after wonderfully but the team.
I was able to park close by on the seafront road- with the £2 parking pass it was very affordable- which made for easy decanting of children and bags from the car to the hotel.
We spent the following day on the pier which was a short and pretty walk along the front from the hotel- and wouldn't hesitate to recommend the hotel to anyone looking for a getaway with a bit of British seaside charm.

The room we stay in doesn't have a mini fridge. I would think that is true for all rooms. There is an excellent room service if drinks were required in the rooms.
There are more places to choose from in the Eastbourne area.
