Ocean Beauty is the perfect name for this resort. This boutique hotel is everything its website describes - the photos are real!

The things I remember most is that the staff were really nice and friendly and seemed genuine - not stuck up at all unlike some 1st class hotels! The rooms and grounds were exceptionally clean. The food was excellent, and there was always a free sunbed! The room was massive - ocearn suite, I loved the comfortable bed, massive bath and shower and music in the bathroom! There were also a few surprises snacks and champagne every other day which added to this retreat. I also got to meet the owner - nice bloke too!

It is a quiet hotel in a small resort. The hotel does not provide evening entertainment and does not yet have a bar (there are plans). The hotel is however in the middle of Perrybere - so supermarket across the road and a good selection of restaurants less than 5 mins walk away. For a bar with a dance floor you would need to go to Grand Baie which cost £4 in a taxi.

I saw lots of couples there and some familys with very young children - both seemed happy. There are watersports available arranged by reception. If you want to go clubbing every night or really enjoy the cheesy entertainment that some hotels provide its probably not for you.

But if you want somewhere clean to stay, great views, a pool, impecible service and enjoy eating out - then this is a great place to stay. I have stayed in hotels all over the world. This is the only one I wish I could pick up and take home!

Ocean Beauty is a self-catering hotel on Pereybere Beach. Pereybere is situated between Grand Baie and Cap Malheureux. The more upmarket resorts are around Grand Baie and Pointe aux Canonniers in the northwest.

We chose Ocean Beauty to get away from the more crowded, bar and club environment of Grand Baie. Ocean Beauty sits hidden behind a gate that keeps the outside world at bay. It has access to a short but lovely stretch of sand and clear turquoise water beyond.

The property is small, with only ten or so rooms. We were in Anemone. Our room was big enough to fit a king size bed and a day bed. The bathroom has a separate toilet with its own door, a large counter and sink, a tub and a shower cubicle. It had a separate kitchenette with the usual items - fridge, microwave, kettle, crockery and cutlery, etc. We also had a patio furnished with three chairs and a small table.

The outside world is accessible via a flat-screen television, and wifi. The cable service wasn't working when we arrived, bit by the next day it has been restored. A wifi signal is available throughout the property, including the pool area and beach side.

Other reviewers have commented on the fact that Ocean Beauty is slightly worn around the edges. We didn't have a problem with the smell of damp. The linen and towels are not brand-new, but they were clean and perfectly serviceable.

The staff are cheerful and helpful. Reception closes at 5pm. We arrived at night, and were met by a very helpful security guard who helped with our luggage, and showed us around our room and explained how things worked. A nice touch was the flowers that had been arranged on the bed and in the bathroom prior to our arrival.

There is a breakfast menu, and you are served on your patio. The food quality is variable. The crepes are very good, as is the eggs hollandaise. Scrambled eggs tend to be overdone, and the pastries are store-bought and average. Be sure to be very clear about your breakfast order, or you may not get what you had asked for.

As other reviewers have alluded to, Ocean Beauty is not the place to go for a 5 star hotel experience. It does have its charms though. The flowers scattered around the room when we arrived. The free flow of juice and soft drinks from the fridge at reception. The use of a bathroom for a shower after you have checked out (we had a 1pm late checkout) and before you head to the airport (5pm for us). The quiet and calm, despite most other rooms being occupied. The friendliness and helpfulness of all the staff.

Then there is the beach and the sea. The public beach is not far to the left of Ocean Beauty, but people don't stray toward the hotel. So you have easy and uncrowded access to the sea.

There are lots of places to get a meal within walking distance of Ocean Beauty. The Pereybere Cafeteria has a good seafood platter, and the Maharajah Grill has excellent, tandoori fish, dahl makhni, naan and parathas. If you want to do some cooking, there is a large supermarket 200 metres away.

There is a regular bus service to the clubs, bars and restaurants of Grand Baie. It is a less than 3km walk, if you are so inclined.

If iI had the option, I would give a "Good" rating to Ocean Beauty. It isn't the ritziest hotel around, but is does have many charms. Location being not the least of its attractions.

Some may feel that for what they are paying, they should get 5 star service. Just note that Mauritius is an expensive destination for tourists. USD120 per night at the Ocean Beauty sounds pricey, and would buy you more 'stars' in some other countries. But as a comparison, the best rate at the Mauricia Beachcomber in Grand Baie is USD265. The Royal Palm, also in Grand Baie, is USD830 per night.

Would I recommend the Ocean Beauty hotel to friends? With a caveat or two about expectations - yes.

It's disappointing, really, when you visit such a beautiful place and yet feel so unwelcome. The receptionist is the main problem - disinterested, bored, tired, and hostile, she tarnished our whole experience. I was traveling with my mom, who has limited mobility, yet her lack of concern or empathy was palpable. The breakfast did not live up to the delightfully sophisticated menu - a "fresh fruit platter" consisted or two bruised bananas and 6 slices of pineapple, for example, and the "order from our bakery selection of croissants, pain au chocolat, pain au raisin" etc actually could only deliver to slices of plain white toast that were crisped to cardboard. And what kind of Mauritian kitchen runs out of chillies, one of the stated ingredients for the Mauritian omelette? All of this smacks of poor or no management, staff who are untrained or unsupervised. The setting is sublime, the pool and ocean setting blissful, the rooms well-resourced and comfortable. The basics are there, but this beauty lacks grace and is unwelcoming. I'd give it a huge miss if I were you. There are so many other fish in the sea, hotels in the area.

Reading last two reviews of this hotel I decided I have to contribute to this forum. I do not understand what people are able to complain about and I wonder if they were in the same hotel, too.
First, if you hate cockroaches and you expect that hotel will take care 100% of the surrounding nature, you better stay home and especially do not go to (sub)tropics. I alwys take with me spray, spray the room right after I come...and have no issues. Yes, bugs are not pleasant but part of nature.
Second, maybe you better really read reviews before you go there. 250 EUR/night in Mauritius is not such a huge price - by the way, why u paid so much? Ocean suite room cost me 165 EUR/night, include the Love package.

Now - the hotel has big rooms (at least Ocean suite), so plenty space to do your luggage. It got even kitchen and second (dark, small) room which we did not use. Whatsoever about rooms, the toilet had a bad access (small, doors opening inside) other I have no complaint - clean, served, nice patio....no smell at all:) The garden was small but nice as well as pool, not idea about dirty garden or pool.
The service was not too fancy but that can be expected from such a hotel. Basically, the hotel serves breakfast, has pool, wifi internet for free, good room service, and some small services (snrokeling, little massages on request...). Other there is basically no service in the hotel but they can arrange it via their sister hotels in most cases.
The staff was nice and helpful, at least to us. Always smiling, willing to help (we did not need much help though), bringing our luggage, trying to do a lot for us. The security was somehow not on the highest level but sufficient for Mauritius and the gate was always opened in a while. The parking outside is a little inconvenient (not understand, plenty of space behind the gate) but to ruin my vacation for walking 30 meters?? You must be joking. During the day (if you stayed at hotel) staff would bring you drinks, snacks, fruits free of charge, as well you have access to non alcoholic drinks 24 hrs. Onc heckout, we were given some letters, hand shaking, fruit coctail and taxi was arranged for us for a convenient price (say 5 EUR more to what we checked before with taxis).
The hotel had beatiful sunsets visible right from the pool, access to a near by beach which had a good access to water, so the fact hotel has no direct private beach does not matter too much. Generally - in Mauritius, if you want a calm quiet beach on weekends, you have to search well anyway.

To summarize - We are a pair of young people who rent car for their whole stay, travel the whole island through, checking all beaches, restaurants, places in Mauritius & making all kinds of trips and dives, do not care about hotel service too much, meals, sports provided...but still want a nice small quiet hotel to relax, this was a very good choice we made. For similar travellers - just do not trust such pampered reviews, take a car and travel Mauritius for its MANY places to see and have a calm stay at Ocean Beauty.

We stayed in this hotel for 10 days. It was amazing!! We were looking for somewhere cheap with a pool, next to the beach and somewhere we could snorkel. It was difficult to decide whether to go all inclusive and which was cheaper.

We made the right decision, Ocean Beauty serves any breakfast you like either to the terrace outside your room or on the beach. The food all over Mauritius is excellent and cheap, and we loved the variety of choosing where we ate. Frequently the very friendly staff would bring us complimentary cocktails and snacks or champagne and apperitives, not expected but always delicious and appreciated.

When we arrived we were treated to champagne in the relaxing reception area. We were then shown to our room which had been beautifully decorated with bourgainvillea and hibiscus flowers for our arrival. This was then repeated on our final day which was lovely. Our room was one of the smaller ones but sufficient and exactly as it had looked in the photos on the website (that can be said of all their photos). The large rain shower and 2-person bath were both amazing.

The garden and pool were beautifully kept. The views from the infinity pool and the loungers looking over the ocean due west meant that the sunsets were breathtaking. We bought drinks from the shop across the road as there is no bar in the hotel and from the loungers could watch the sunset over the ocean every night.

We had friends in other hotels we visited and no other hotels compared. The fact that the hotel has only 8 rooms means it is never busy. Often we were the only people by the pool or on the beach but this may have been partly due to the timing of our visit - late winter (late August) and thus off season. We particularly liked the relaxed and friendly atmosphere, everyone knew our name which was really nice! 24-hour security guards ensure that all belongings can be left anywhere safely.

Pereybere was perfect for us, a quieter more relaxed version of Grand Baie. Plently of restaurants and bars within a 3 minute walk, beautiful private beach and the frequent buses throughout the day up until 8pm took just 10mins and 10Rs to get to Grand Baie and a 5min 150Rs taxi back for bigger nights out. Sea Lovers restaurant was so good we ate there three times and was only two down from the hotel.

We paid EUR95 for the room per night but I know that this has increased since we booked.

I can't rate this place highly enough, however if you prefer large hotels with entertainment etc then this is not for you. We would stay here if we came back. Perfect for couples... we met a couple on their honeymoon who had the 'Lovers Package' and we know they too had an excellent, romantic time!

p.s. if renting a car, don't park it in Port Louis - our boot was broken into and this is apparently common in Port Louis (we found out after!) - but everywhere else on the island we felt extrememly safe at all times and were never, ever hassled by anyone.

At the beginning! We Were greeted with cold towels and fruit drink on arrival which was very nice. There is no one there to help with luggage but this was not a problem as it is only a very small hotel. We had an ocean view suite called Abelone. On first entering you do notice the smell of damp which is probably accounted for by the mould on the bathroom ceiling. It was bearable although it would be nice if something was done about it. Lovely display of flowers all around the room. Room is big and well furnished.
We had a lovely spa bath, which was one of the reasons we booked the room, but unfortunately there was never enough warm water to fill it so we ended up going backwards and forwards with kettles of hot water which was rather annoying. The bath towels, but more particularly the beach towels, are really really shabby with stains, holes and frayed edges.
Breakfast was always delivered promptly and they usually got about 90% of the order right and the food was good.
All in all we did enjoy our stay at Ocean Beauty but I think this was more down to its location than anything else. You can walk along the beach to some lovely spots or catch a bus just 2 minutes walk from the hotel to go further along the coast.
I got the impression that the place is being a bit neglected. Cost cutting by patching up instead of replacing. Also the building to the front of the property is being extended and there was some building noise but we never stayed at the hotel all day so this didn't bother us.

I wasn't sure about booking this hotel at all due mainly to controversial reviews. I'm so dispointed that's i decided to book it , just comeback from maurious last week after 7 night in this hotel ,So When i booked - Ocean Beauty was supposed to be my highlight - it turned out to be my worst experience. So you can imagine how disapointed i was when i arrived -the room wasn't ready and No one to help with our baggage - so we had to carry it in our selves. My cousin and I went down to the reception area/lounge which was very small , surrounded by a very mouldy, dirty and GREEN - with the surrounding plants, lawn and trees overgrown and untidy - my heart sank. After a 12 hours flight from london I was really expecting more! Went back to our room what on earth is that smell. The room reeked of mould and stale, and also an unpleasant smell i could not describe. It was done up nicely with flowers all over though .This is not a hotel as described on the websites such as booking.com and the owner's description that it is a Boutique Hotel is quite frankly a fraudulent statement. There is no restaurant, no bar, and minimal staff a receptionist during the day, a breakfast waiter and a security guard. After 5 pm only ,The owners live on the property but don't interact with guests - probably they don't want to hear complaints. The breakfast service is a joke. Many times they just ignore the breakfast order and don't serve it, the food was average , the spa is a complete rip off the wifi doesn't work and if it does it's painfully slow it's a shame coz the island itself is beautiful but this hotel is a no no Finally, upon preparing to leave we had absolutely no one mention anything especially at the reception. But what can one expect, we paid in full and clearly this hotel is not counting on us returning.
Indeed I will NEVER return to Ocean Beauty.

On website this hotel sounds great but you will get a shocker once there. They are claiming a higher ratings which is not correct. First you will not be able to locate that hotel. They tiny hidden sign board that you will miss all the time. The WIFI does not work, so if you plan to do some work in the room, then forget it. The beach area shown in picture is shocking in real life. The water features around the hotel is shocking. The room service provider is not friendly, it will take degree to make a simple TV work, there are ants that will come in the kitchen, the towels will not be changed. Breakfast is terrible. Fruit platter is a shocker. Be careful, breakfast menu is not what you will get, you will only get what you say on the phone. I would not pay that much again for that poor service.

We have stayed in this hotel for our honeymoon in March 2016. The hotel is very small and quiet with nice and friendly staff, it has a small pool with sunbeds and access to the beach. There is a supermarket 2 min away from the hotel (called Winners) where you can buy all that you need. We had a kitchenette in out junior suite so we could cook a basic meal, we had a microwave owen, a kettle, a fridge and received a bottle of water every day of our stay. Also, there is an iron in the room and you get beach towels which are cleaned/washed during your stay (so no need to bring your own towels..). The receptionist is at the hotel 9-17 and after that time there is a guard which helps in case of need. Breakfast is served at your terasse (you phone every morning and order, it comes very promptly). If you sty more than 7 nights you will receive a 5 course dinner (served at the beach and it was very good), a massage (you have to go to the sister hotel called Ocean villas for the massage BUT it's worth it, the massage was excellent) and a sunset boat ride.
If you can choose an ocean suite to wake up every morning with a beautiful ocean view. The Pereybere public beach is 2 min away, bus station is 5 min away, restaurants are on the main road, 2 min away. Bear in mind that this hotel does not serve lunch/dinner. The only problem that we've had was the safe, we couldn't close it so we asked the staff to check it. The problem was in the batteries which they said they will replace the same day but they never replaced them so we took our money and passports always with us..

After reading the reviews I was really looking forward to staying and managed to upgrade to a garden room. On arrival I was really disappointed, the room smelt musty and was in need of redecorating.
I spilt some water on the bathroom floor & when I wiped it up my cloth was filthy, so the floor had not been cleaned properly this is not something you expect from a boutique hotel.
I woke to use the bathroom on the second night and found hundreds of ants had hatched below the basin they were everywhere! Under the sink there were holes stuffed with paper where they had obviously come from (see picture)
There were no facilities for evening meals & only breakfast was served.
On the plus side the hotel is in a lovely location on the beach and the staff / security are really helpful.
Apparently the owners own several hotels on the Island, they really do need to invest in this particular hotel.
