We got a recommendation for Ocean Beauty from a lady we met in the airport car park whilst picking up /handing over hire cars. If you believe in fate....... we booked here last minute, initially for 2 nights but we enjoyed it that much we extended our stay. Yes, there are improvements needed but after 2 years of no business/ income I can overlook some decorating and tidying up needs. The security/receptonist/ doing everything guy that checked us in admitted as such but the company is understandably reluctant to shut at peak season and has staffing issues. We booked an ocean view suite which was incredible. A beautiful big space with magnificent bathroom complete with huge tub, waterfall style shower and glass walls so you get the view over the enormous bed (all made up with flowers on the crisp very white sheets) out onto the balcony and the amazing azure sea beyond. The heated pool was great, the other outside areas need some beautifying. A small set of steps down to the beach and you're in heaven. The staff were fab and the breakfasts on the balcony looking out to sea, couldn't fault it. Would definitely stay here again.

We visited this boutique hotel right after lockdown was lifted in Mauritius. We were the first visitors in over 3 months.

From arrival to departure, we experienced very good service. The room we stayed in was sea facing with a lovely en suite bathroom with a stunning bath and shower.

The views are just incredible, as the sun sets directly facing the hotel. There is a small private beach and a large swimming pool as well. We had sundowners on the deck that has 180 degrees of sea views. We also had our breakfast out on the deck.

The hotel is small and intimate. If you are looking for a quiet, romantic stay, I can highly recommend this hotel.

Location, location, location and nice rooms too!
Sure, if you want to stay at an impersonal Chain Hotel, you can but if you want to be in a little family style run hotel, this is your place.
For me, the best thing was the breakfast that is brought to your room every morning. Or you can choose to sit overlooking the ocean and watch the waves role in while you eat.
So to be clear, there is no restaurant, no bar, no dining room but for me that was all a pro. There is a nice swimming pool and the views over the ocean are fantastic.
The beach is at your feet and the birds are coming over to say hi every morning.
What more can you want for a wonderful island vacation!

Lovely room, the bathroom was particularly big and modern with both a shower-as well as the bath. There was also a microwave and fridge in the room as well.

The pool was clean and just the right size-overlooking the sea. The hotel also has access to a very small part of the beach as well with clear blue water. Another positive was that we were given a lovely omelette for breakfast.

The place does need TLC in the sense that the reception area is a bit of wasted space and could be made into something nicer.

It is obvious there's a lack of staff. They did struggle during the pandemic and lost a lot of business, as you can imagine, and are trying to get back on their feet (told to us by staff). Would recommended this place if you want something not too expensive and with a beautiful view/access to the beach.

We have just had 3 weeks at Ocean Beauty which is a small new aparthotel with 9 beautifully furnished bedrooms, large bathrooms, huge separate shower, some with jaccussi bath and some like ours with a small kitchen but all rooms have microwave and fridge. All rooms have AC, a safe, satallite TV, internet connection, 24 hour security guard and you can also have a great massage by the pool.
Breakfast can be served either to your room or overlooking the beach and is beautifully cooked and served by Amrita who can't do enough for you. Whilst sunbathing by the pool she will come with homemade sorbet, drinks and cold towels, we will miss her. All the staff are fantastic and are very very helpful.
There are steps on to a small beach with crystal clear water and good snorkling and fabulous sunsets across the bay. There are shops, a supermarket, restaurants and bars nearby and a frequent bus service to Grand Bay & Port Louis. The scuba diving is fantastic and we went with Dophin Divers, across the road, who were also superb.
We recommend it highly and can't wait to come back, and we can't thank th staff enough for making our holiday so memorable.
Ocean Villas in Grand Bay is under the same ownership, it is an older hotel but is good value for money with good facilities for families and a renovation programme is underway

I read a lot of off-the-chart reviews for this hotel, mainly by people who rented a suite, so I think it needs to be balanced a bit...

First of all, yes it is a great hotel, has slow-but-free WiFi and is very well located, in Pereybere, where you'll find at least a dozens of restaurants (600 to 1200 rupees for lunch or dinner for 2) and several boutiques, an ATM and a Change for your foreign currencies. There is a supermarket on the other side of the road, and a pharmacy 50m away.
It is a 5-min cab ride (150 ruppies = 4 euros) away from Grand Baie.

We are just finishing our stay there, after 2 weeks in a "Deluxe" room. There are actually only Deluxe rooms or suites in this hotel. And apparently Suite customers who stay over 7 nights get also a great "Love at first sight" package that includes for instance the massage on the beach, or the dinner on the beach... which is over twice as much as the price of an expensive restaurant if you have to pay for it!

Our room is on the ground floor, and only about 20 square meters big, with a huge bed in the middle, so not a lot of available space really. And here are the things that didn't go so well:
- there is no chair in the room, or anywhere to put our clothes on – we asked for one and got it within the hour though
- there is only one towel bar in the bathroom, too bad as the towels are huge (great!) but there is nowehre to hang them! And this towel bar which barely supports 1 towel broke twice during our stay, and they never really fixed it
- the bathroom may be clean, but we had ants and 2 huge cockroaches during our stay :-(
- the bath gel and shampoo were not filled in regularly
- there is a hairdryer in the bathroom, but no plug, and there are plus in the room... but no mirror!
- our wardrobe door has a broken hinge, another one barely OK and a last one fine, but the whole 2 weeks it made a squeaking noise every time we opened it, didn't close properly and we were scared to receive it on our feet eventually...
- we found the pillows to be too thick, and woke up with neck pains... and when we asked the staff if they could find another one for us, they said yes, claimed to have found one at the other Ocean hotel in Grand Baie (after a few days)... but there was not difference so we ended up sleeping with our travel pillows :-(
- we had to ask the reception after being told by other guests to find out that we were allowed to take a water ski ride for free... great but we could have spent 2 weeks there without knowing it!
- the staff is not really knowledgeable about the trips and excursions they propose, so don't be surprised when the tour you've booked is slightly different from what you expected

So we know that all of these little things may not be a problem for everyone, but the goal of this post is really to balance some of the "all is beautiful" ones.
Yes it is a very good hotel, the pool is great, only few guests as there are only maybe 10 suites+rooms, it is perfectly located and the staff is smiling, but it could be better.

Would we come again? Yes. But we would probably look into the suites rather than the rooms.

We had a short stay at ocean beauty as part of our trip to mauritius and were actually quite impressed by its location on the beach of pereybere with breathtaking views on the ocean.
Rooms were clean and modern with good amenities and close to restaurants. Will greatly recommend.

Lots of nice things about this place but all ruined by the lack of hygiene and chip on the shoulder of the main waiter there. Most things you ask for for breakfast from their menu they won't have it and that is a short sharp no, not an apology or any bother to explain that actually they will never have it and so don't ask for it again!
I was fed up after a few days of dirty napkins, dirty tablecloths and 2 particular servings of food ready served with insects. Now I understand the island has lots of insects but really do expect for this money for there to be more care and hygiene so that I at least receive insect free food (bearing in mind everywhere else on the island I received insect free food, even from cheap street food) and then from then on it's up to me to keep them away. One morning I saw 3 ants crawling in and out of our croissants and pain u chocolat, plus another 2 in the process of delving into my cornflakes, this was as the waiter was serving it to me. When I started to try and get them off, he said he must have knocked a tree on the way! No apology, no offer to change it, that was it! Needless to say I didn't eat any of it. I didn't realise I had to pick my food apart before I could eat anything but evidently food is sitting around uncovered in an unclean kitchen or there's a lack of care in the kitchen or on the way to the guests. We'd also had a time when we received a halfused packet of jam which is really disgusting as the birds are all over these things once you've left your table and before the waiter collects. Therefore not only was it half used by someone but no doubt slobbered on by a bird! Anyway ths was following a dinner of chicken which contained a pond insect which hopped out to greet me as I cut into it. At this stage, still being too polite to complain, or more accurately wanting to avoid the attitude of the waiter (rather than apology and care as you would expect ANYWHERE), my husband simply politely asked him if he could please cover the food on his way to us, entertaining his "tree" excuse. He got an "ok" and the starter of the following meal was served covered. Very nice, thanks. However, that was the beginning and the end of his efforts. He then unusally spoke to us whilst helping us out by lending us a bottle opener to get across that he had been doing this job since he was 17 and is now nearly 30 and that with that experience also, our wine was too cold to be good to drink. Thanks very much, and as I expected this is how he dealt with a reasonable request to cover food due to the recent insect activity in food. As a paying guest you expect professionalism, not ego trouble. He once served my food at my place while my chair was on the other side and I wanted to move it back so he stood back and watched me struggle instead of helping me. A small thing but extremely offputting. Our towels were generally clean enough but once a fresh towel came complete with a worryingly coloured brown stain on it. The other thing that ruined the experience was being hinted to without shame to tip on 2 different occasions on paper. When we first got there, part of the welcome pack explained the tipping system where there was a box in reception which was shared out amongst the staff, so if you liked someone in particular mention it to the management. Quite fair enough but an awful attempt at discretion (trying to hint to us to tip by making it seem as if it was important information) but that was fine, merely slightly amusing. However, just before we checked out we received a letter once again requesting we leave our keys in our room and once again "explaining the tipping process". Therefore this left us with no desire to tip whatsoever. It's extremely rude and made worse by the fact the main person employed to provide service only caused grief and annoyance for us.

The method of dinner I thought was nice. We knew when it was coming and to not know what was coming was quite fun. The food when insect free was really quite nice. The lady in management was really lovely and helpful. The security guard was such a lovely, helpful smiling man. The pool was quite cold but really nice and big. The views were incredible. The beach is definitely not private! There were often loads of random people turning up there and staff at the hotel watched this without doing/saying anything so think they should defintely remove any claims of the beach being private!

Just back from an amazing stay at Ocean Beauty for 2 weeks in July. Actually Roberto and I just got married 2 days before jumping on the plane to Mauritius and wow, it was worth the long flight.

For the first time in our lives, we saw so many flowers in our room - everywhere, on our bed, wash basin, bath.

We were lucky as when we booked a suite, they were offering a package they rightly call Celebrate love at first sight free of charge!! Roberto and I just can't get enough of the massage on the beach, the candle-lit dinner, champagne, private boat ride by sunset! too good!! staff was good and efficient.

I usually do not write reviews after my holiday, but i thought i just had to thank the incredible staff who surpassed themselves. We felt very safe and pampered.

Our holiday lasted like a dream. Now back to reality...

Daria & Roberto Conte (just married!)

When i booked my trip to mauritius - Ocean Beauty was supposed to be my highlight - it turned out to be my worst experience. So you can imagine how disapointed i was when i arrived - it took us 2 hours to find the place, there were no boards or sign posts. When we finally found the place, we were told there was no parking available - so we had to park our hire car outside on the street! No one to help with our baggage - so we had to carry it in our selves. When i finally saw the reception area/lounge which was the size of 3 cars parked side to side, surrounded by a very mouldy, dirty and GREEN - with the surrounding plants, lawn and trees overgrown and untidy - my heart sank. I literally felt like i had been conned into staying in a dump like this when i had paid EUR250/per night!
We didnt actually check in - as we were shown to our room - which was when i literally felt like sitting and crying my eyes out! The first impression was - what on earth is that smell. The room reeked of mould and stale, and also an unpleasant smell i could not describe. The room literally had no space to open my suit case. It was done up nicely with flowers all over etc etc. But I noticed many problems one after another.
The sink was leaky, the bathroom window had a view of rotten wood/junk/dump. When morning finally came, thinking things couldnt get any worse - i was told kosher/halal sausages were not available - we had actually given our preference before the booking was made about this particular subject! We had been Assured by Alexandra that it will not be a problem. So we were paying for breakfast that we werent even going to have.
After consulting the manager/chef, who was so rude - telling me there was NOTHING he could do, and it was out of his hands. You can understand how angry i was. Demanding to speak to the manager - i was told no one was available and were in a meeting.
After 5 hours, I finally spoke to Alexander - who agreed to transfer us to the less luxurious Ocean Villa's, And were also invited to the hotel dinner. They did not accept the room stank.
We spent 6 days here, and the rest at Hilton Mauritius which was EUR50 cheaper and MUCH MUCH nicer.

I will NEVER return to Ocean Beauty. I will put up pictures - so you know that you're actually being robbed off your money which you can use to stay at the 5 star Hilton. Dont go by the pics they have on their web site.

Response from Ocean-PR, Owner and Manager at Ocean Beauty
Responded 13 Apr 2009
Feedback on guests’ holiday experience are important for us and certainly welcome. However, we would like to put clear some points for the benefit of future guests: Ocean Beauty is a small hotel, with only 9 rooms total onsite. The deluxe room is small in size, cosy at 25 m2. Certainly, the room is smaller in comparison to our suites (50m2), however we did not want to compromise to the benefit of a large king size (2m x 2m) bed. Indeed, the guests have complained of the bad smell in the room to me. We are very sensitive to this and keeping a watchful eye. Luckily, it is not a recurrent smell. Actually we suspect that it may be due to the recent rains in the humid December season. We have taken this seriously and have immediately changed all soft furnishings and curtains in the room. Ocean Beauty signage located at gate entrance on Pointe d’Azur Lane. Hotel is small and indeed there is no parking inside the hotel compound. This is mentioned clearly in the fact sheet at booking. Car parking is ok in the private Pointe d’Azur lane and our security on duty regularly do patrol checks. There is a fish pond around the reception lounge at entrance, cleaned and maintained once a week, outsourced to a professional biologist with experience. There are more than 60 bright Japanese koi fishes of 2-3 generations, and fish feeding every morning is a delight shared by many in-house guests. We are surprised that clients found the grounds overgrown and untidy, as there is a full time gardener (Rajesh) onsite everyday, and who has been working at hotel since opening. We are stunned by this comment, because to date, we have received compliments on overall landscaping of the grounds and manicured garden which boast over 30 varieties of endemic botany. The rate of the deluxe room during peak Xmas period for the deluxe room is EUR 200 (and not EUR 250) per night for 2 persons including breakfast. For the benefit of the fellow readers, our rates are on average at EUR 120 for 2 inclusive of room service breakfast but higher during Xmas and New Year period. Our apologies on behalf of the Chef regarding the chicken sausages. No excuse however for the rude response from the staff. Our efforts for an immediate solution have been sincere, we are glad they have enjoyed the remainder of their stay with us and in Mauritius. Alexandra
