A stay at the Hanseatic Hotel is a very special experience. We have invested all our expertise and passion into creating this high quality hotel, situated at Bryggen in Bergen. With its location at the very heart of historic Bergen, the hotel is ideally placed, whether you are travelling on business or pleasure. The Hanseatic Hotel is not your 'standard' hotel. The hotel has been built on historic ground within the Finnegaarden Trading House at Bryggen, which is inscribed on Unesco's list of World Heritage Sites. We have retained the wharf style and architecture, and the old timber walls have been preserved in several places. Every room is unique! We can offer 37 characterful double rooms featuring exclusive furniture and unique bathrooms, creating an interior that is redolent of the time when Bryggen was a Hanseatic port. The Hanseatic Hotel will appeal to those looking for more than a standard A4 hotel, and who wish to spoil themselves in attractive and charming surroundings. As the city's most outstanding hotel and restaurant complex, we want our guests' stay to be memorable and can offer delicious culinary treats that will appeal to every taste. We have several restaurants serving exquisite traditional and international cuisine, a cosy lobby bar, in addition to excellent conference facilities and free WiFi. Our hotel and restaurants, as well as our conference facilities, with their unique character and central location, make for an out-of-the-ordinary experience. We can organise every type of private function, from weddings to confirmations and Christmas buffets. A short distance from the hotel is the famous Fish Market (Fisketorget), where seafood connoisseurs mingle. Another popular tourist attraction is the Fløibanen Funicular. The airport bus and the railway station are just a short distance away. Welcome to a memorable hotel and culinary experience!

The Hanseatic Hotel captivates guests with its historic allure and central location, perfect for exploring the city. However, some travelers find the rooms charming but quirky, with concerns over poor lighting, noise, and ventilation. The hotel's ambiance is generally appreciated, yet the nearby bar noise can be bothersome. While the amenities, including modern bathrooms, receive positive remarks, guests note breakfast limitations and unmet expectations regarding wooden flooring.
Service is often praised, but inconsistent experiences exist. Despite clean rooms, some guests point out cleanliness issues in communal spaces. Many feel the hotel doesn't offer value for money, with complaints about overpriced rooms and noise disruptions.

a wonderful hotel with beautiful big rooms - a perfect mix of old and modern, nice bathrooms and really friendly and helpful staff - unfortunately we had to leave before breakfast, so we had no experiance with the breakfast - we "have" to come back...

Okay stay at the Hanseatic hotel. The room was nice with a beautiful bathroom. Like anything, it is the small things that can make or break an experience. We had a double bed but fitted with single sheets just sitting on mattress, not a big deal but at least a sheet that fits the bed would have been nice. We noticed in the doorway between ensuite and room that a bunch of nails had been slowly pulled out. If you were to step in wrong place you could very easily have a nail shoot in between your toenail or straight into your toe. Not a big problem, I promptly notified the receptionist who didn’t seem that interested to hear but said he would fix it. We returned that evening and nothing had been done. I understand it’s an old hotel, I have no problem with the nails it was just disappointing that such a simple fix couldn’t have been accomplished. We never heard anything about it again, I assume he just forgot which is poor service. We asked a basic question about parking at check-in such as the price roughly for paid parking at the suggested site and the receptionist could answer only that it’s expensive. Which didn’t really help in any way. A bit strange considering they refer to this parking space at the website. I saw another review mentioning lots of things packed in hallways - this is true. Overall the hotel was nice but not very luxurious as I thought it would be. Fantastic location just a few small things that brought the experience down. It really is a beautiful building and with a bit more customer minded care and upkeep it could be excellent.

We stayed here for 3 nights on a long weekend break and had a great holiday. The hotel is in the perfect location for Bergen waterfront & Bryggen, with lots of restaurants and bars within easy walking distance. I chose this hotel as a contrast to previous ones we've stayed in which have been more corporate & formulaic. The Hanseatic has a lovely old charm, with very comfortable beds, beamed ceilings and lots of character. The bathroom was spacious, clean & modern with both a bath and shower. The breakfast is excellent and I would also recommend the Finnegaardsstuene (FG) restaurant for dinner in the evening.

We had booked to stay 3 nights in this hotel which is well located centrally just across the wharf in Bryggen. We arrived late evening on the ferry from Flam and had some trouble locating the hotel in the dark as it was not lit up. Unfortunately by that time all the better rooms had already been taken. We were offered a room which was so small that it felt claustrophobic to be in it but the helpful staff member, Irshaad sympathised and offered us a change to another room which was fractionally larger but involved lugging our luggage up wooden stairs which proved difficult for us. Because the hotel was running a full occupancy for Friday and Saturday, he couldn’t do anymore for us but pledged to upgrade us to a larger and more conveniently located room for our third night. That was indeed a blessing! Our thanks to Irshaad and his colleagues at reception who enthusiastically organised a booking at a popular local Norwegian restaurant and taxi service for us when needed. The breakfast was much enjoyed as the spread was varied and generously laid out. We loved sampling the different cheeses, herring and smoked salmon which were offered. We would recommend this hotel for its rustic charm and wonderful attitude of Irshaad and his colleagues.

Paying almost NOK 3.000/night for 2 persons in this hotel is FAR too MUCH! The room was very ordinary, air conditioning not working, no heat in the bathroom (we did not get the heat to work), had to borrow an ironing board, no info in the room. No, this is not good enough. Good bed should be said, and OK cleaning. The breakfast is OK, but no more. Wednesday - Friday there was someone working who only spoke English, but they were little present, did not clean up tables after guests had left the table, did not refill when something was empty and when I asked for more it came, with the comment that all guests arrive at the same time and then there will be a lot to do. On Saturday there was a Norwegian girl working there, and she did a good job, but was very stressed, angry and upset with everyone! When my wife took a glass of hot water for tea, she got yelled at because she took the wrong glass! Sorry, this is not good enough. Good location but a lot of noise from the street as we had to have windows up because there was no working air conditioning.

In 40+ years of travel in Scandinavia the Hanseatic Hotel is probably one of the biggest disappointments. The photos give it sort of a rosy glow and charm that, sadly, is lacking in the actual hotel. (We stayed 2 nights prior to starting a Viking Cruise in Bergen.) The hotel is located on a narrow one way street with an enormous retaining wall on one side. When it rains, which happens often, that street is like a river running down a canyon. (The water ran over my shoes up to my ankles on one occasion.)
The hotel appears to operate on a shoe string budget. There was no one there when we first arrived at the reception desk in the morning. A man finally surfaced and seemed to have no idea which room we had reserved. He finally came up with a room, but wasn't sure what size it was. He was friendly, but rather vague. I asked if I could see the room before we hauled all our luggage up. We went up on the elevator, but when we arrived on the floor we still needed to climb an ancient narrow open wooden staircase with about 18 steps. Not only could I not have gotten up those stairs with the luggage, the prospect of climbing them at all was daunting.
I explained this to the receptionist. He seemed surprised and told me that the room was a favorite since it had the original timber supports. We pressed on to the 2nd room. It also had some steps. The 3rd room we looked at didn't have steps so I settled for it. Probably not a good decision. While large, it was very dark and rather gloomy with ancient heavy drapes and a velvet (?) couch that had seen better days. All the decor seemed to be vintage 1930's - and tired.
They advertised a small bar on the first floor. It had a nice seating area, but in the 2 1/2 days we stayed there it was never open. No bartender.
The breakfast was okay. Not great. Tables were in a rather dreary room and the two women we saw working there seemed to be as uninterested as the rest of the personnel in the service they were providing.
This was the most expensive hotel we stayed at while in Scandinavia for seven weeks. In my opinion it was overpriced, in the extreme when comparing it to the other hotels.

Beautiful hotel very quirky we booked the standard double room, when we got to the room we discovered the bed was actually 2 singles pushed together with quite a gap in the middle, had to pay an extra 30 pound to upgrade to a room with a proper double bed which i think is unfair! Aslo we payed cash on arrival to then the next day have the money taken from my account so had to wait 2 days for a refund!! Once in that room we was happy, bed very comfy and nice room, also the breakfast was amazing , good location overall lovely stay but the bed situation needs to be addressed

While the location was good and we were kindly allowed to check out late, the suite fell far below our expectations, especially in light of its very expensive price. The suite had almost no natural light and located below a roof with beer cans and the ground floor of a restaurant in sight. There was noise coming from above and an unpleasant smell of humidity throughout. The floors had not been cleaned properly when we checked in and there was tobacco and chewing gum leftovers. The hotel suite pictures do not match the actual rooms (or at least the one we had). Not recommendable.

The people working in the counter was very nice, and relaxed. Nothing was any problems.
And the building is really old, but modernised. So it was super cool walking the hallways.
Had the Suite, which was amazing. The kids loved it, as they slept in the sleeper sofa with the TV, and they brought a baby cot to the room. (Use of extra beds cost extra).
And the breakfast, which I have seen many times suffer grately during the Corona times, they handeled perfectly. (Had to wait 15 minutes, but for the circumstances, that was no problem).
Was just a very nice experience, and we will be back :)

The Hanseatic Hotel couldn't be in a more perfect location. It is the the heart of the bars and restaurants, a stone's throw from Bryggen and a very short walk from the Fløibanen funicular railway. The room was warm and welcoming in its decor and ambiance and the facilities were lovely. The beds were comfortable and spacious and the bath, huge! Breakfast, in a typical buffet style was both generous and varied in content. A lovely weekend stay, all in all, and thoroughly recommended. Thank you!!!

Yes, but it does not reach all rooms
Hi. We only have one king size bed in one of our Suits. The other rooms have two beds put together as one bed. We also have sleeper sofa in some of the rooms. Furthermore, we have rollaway beds.
You can just send an e-mail to frontdesk@finnegaarden.no and they will help you.
Regards
Haakon
Hi,
We could arrange a taxi. However, I do recommend to just find a taxi when you arrive since there is usually no problem getting a taxi quickly. Taxi costs approximately kr 500.
The cheapest way to the city is by the light train. Takes 50 minutes and 5-10 minutes walk to our hotel. A ticket is kr 39 for one way.
You can also take the airport bus, but this is more expensive. A ticket is kr 120 for one way.
If you want us to arrange a taxi when you arrive, please send us an email to frontdesk@finnegaarden.no
We will need you arrival date and flight #.
Regards
Haakon
Hi, we only have non-smoking ross.
