Fjordside Lodge was perfect for my work at primary schools in Alver. The location was great - easy access to all the schools I visited and a wonderful garden with a fantastic view. The studio apartment was great for one person and had all the facilities I needed. Rita, the host, was flexible and accommodating and any issues that cropped up were solved immediately.

Fjordside is a lovely lodge in a stunning location, overlooking one of Norway's beautiful fjords. We had everything we needed for self-catering in a lovely, clean and cosy apartment. The terrace was also a beautiful place for breakfast every morning! Rita gave us a lot of good advice for visiting the surrounding area and beyond. One of the highlights was finding the natural swimming pool she recommended in a mountain river near the small town of Mo, about an hour and a half from Fjordside lodge. Renting a car is definitely recommended for exploring the spectacular surroundings in your own way, at your own pace.

Wonderful place, lovely quite, appartaments number B have 70-75 mc with 2 double room, kitchen, bath. garden closed to the fjord. We went in Bergen for 2 days very closed to the Bryggen. Its cool to stay there on a little apartment, but when we returned after a long tour in norway i was so happy of Rita Ripman choice. I am so glad i met this place. Images do not give justice to the place believe me! is a little bit high price high but this place deserve to be tried! We took lobsters to a mini market around fjordside & we got 50% of discount and with 150kr we fully equipped the kitchen that already had coffee, oil, sugar, salt and many free stuff for the breakfast. well, stereo, vhs, dvd, tv, frigo bar. I am still very happy, and i am glad i am writing this review cos i will miss that place. 2 days are just the time to relax. I had the chance to visit Fantoft and we were at 5pm we reached the church in 20 minute. I had another vist to the fish market and bryggen for some shopping and i have to admit that with a gps a side its very easy to find the city and returing back to the apartment. It takes 20 minutes and when u are at fjordside u really relax despite the busy city centre. Its a good starting point when u wanna stay like me 20 days in norway, and its a good ending when like this time i wanna relax after 3 days of hurtigruten cruise before to live norway returning back to my home town. U hit the sack with fjordside!

Way to high price for a dark room in the cellar, not clean at all. Instead of showing the room when you arrive the host leads you to her little shop and tries to sell you her things, also way overpriced. No hospitable host at all, she is only interested in your money. Look for another place to stay!

She was angry because my gras robot cutter destroyed her tent even she got paid for the repair. I told her were to dry the tent, but she would not listen. Sorry you were not able to get all you asked for. Who is after who's money is up to the audience to decide, since you made it public.

We have just returned from a wonderful week at fjordside lodge and our first visit to Norway could not have been better in any way. Fjordside is simply idyllic. Fantastic accommodation, breathtaking views and the most friendly and helpful welcome you could wish for. Our hosts, Rita and Jarle, could not have done more to help us get the most out of our holiday. They are full of local knowledge and fjordside is a great base to explore the area from. Transport links are very good, with a very regular and reliable bus service and a bus stop right outside. This can take you to bergen rail station from where you can book many trips and tours. We booked the "Norway in a nutshell" tour and had a fantastic day which included a fjord cruise, a journey on the flam railway and a breathtaking coach tour.
There is a convenient grocery store nearby for supplies and Rita's chickens provide a supply of very fresh eggs!
I very much recommend fjordside for a real taste of Norway - it's very beautiful, very tranquil and very very friendly.

I stayed at Fjordside with my two boys in the larger apartment with two beds. The apartment was spacious and it contained all things necessary. The lodge is situated on a hill over the fjord, a short walk down a small trail to lodge's own small pier with boats. We did not make use of the small row boats, but we booked a trip on the owner's big boat and it was very new and comfortable and we did catch plenty of fish and also did a fair amount of sightseeing. Rita and her husband were very friendly and accommodating. Overall it was a very comfortable and pleasant stay despite the rainy weather. We were also rewarded with some very beautiful sunsets - the location is perfect for that.

Also of note: Rita makes a wonderful Rhubarb Wine. I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was.

Thank you! I'm glad you also enjoyed the wine, which is a 100% handmade. We love the wine and the snails doesn't care about rhubarb. So this is pure happiness. We love to see you back. Best wishes, Rita

This is my second visit to Fjordside Lodge and the place is simply amazing! It was a great idea for me to visit in winter, a non-tourist season because I received personal attention and was welcomed like family. Beautiful views of the Fjord and marina from my window made me happy and relaxed. Rita is an exceptional host, her attention to detail, is evident because she made sure I was comfortable, warm and well fed. The apartment was cozy, nicely decorated and very clean. She taught me how to knit and helped me to get around Bergen. I feel like I`m at home at Fjordside Lodge, Lots of laughs, long walks and great coffie with Rita and Jarle. I will definately come back again and again!!!

We wanted to stay in a cottage on a Norwegian fjord and we certainly achieved that on our vacation in stunning Norway. The views from the deck areas are magnificent, the hosts kind & helpful and the location for travelling to Bergen or to the other scenic areas (all of Norway!!) excellent.
We were in the smaller accommodation which had everything in a small space. Great for a couple, very clean, comfortable and quiet. The garden areas are very pretty, Rita gave us arugala from the greenhouse and the chickens were happy to greet us in the morning!
We had a happy, memorable stay and hope to return in the future.

We had a wonderful stay at Fjordside Lodge, and were really pleased to have chosen it based on reviews we had read on here.
The first thing to say is that you really can't beat the location. The view is spectacular! It was lovely to have access to the two decks overlooking the fjord for meals and as a place to relax and take in the peace and tranquility. It's also a good proximity to Bergen, an easy drive away, and makes a good base for exploring deeper in to the Fjords and central Norway. The garden was also beautiful. The apartment was clean, comfortable and well-equipped. For example, we really appreciated having a washing machine, being on holiday with kids, and being able to cook on the gas BBQ. Everything, especially the garden and outside area was very well-maintained.
On top of this beautiful setting, Rita was also an excellent host, always making sure we had what we needed, for example bringing me out a sun-lounger when she saw I was reading on the deck. She is extremely friendly and welcoming, and it was also nice to chat to other guests also staying at Fjordside.
Like others who have posted below, we would definitely recommend Fjordside as a place to stay if you are thinking of visiting Western Norway.

"Having the kitchen was nice. Norwegian food prices are a huge shocker for Americans - as well as everything else except the public transportation. It is prudent to have the option to make your dinners and such. Bergen also has a pass card system so that you visit all the museums and use the transportation system - well worth the $$$."
