Hôtel Charmante is an explosive product in an otherwise neutral market, an outgoing little sister with lots of personality & character. When the siblings try to fit in, Charmante says just as she thinks & means and takes her place. She is never afraid that her flamboyant personality will be too much, but on the other hand, terrified of not being remembered.

Charmante Skostredet Hôtel captivates guests with its prime location and eclectic charm, with many praising its cleanliness and stylish, modern amenities. While the friendly and professional service receives accolades, some guests have found the value to be questionable, pointing to high costs and unmet luxury expectations.
The unique décor of the rooms delights, although they may lack space and basic conveniences. Additionally, while the atmosphere is generally appreciated for its attention to detail, the decor's intensity and occasional loud music have been noted as drawbacks.

This is a small boutique hotel created from the conversion of some old terraced townhouses in central Bergen. It is very well situated for the main areas and good restaurants are nearby.
The decor of the hotel is spectacular. The rooms, hallways, loos and even the lift are all dramatically dressed with matching wallpaper and carpet in dramatic colours.
The bedrooms are opulent, with lush sofas, comfortable beds, and a fully stocked in-room wine fridge and bar area containing Tattinger and Meurault.
The breakfasts are cooked to order. Service is relaxed but attentive.
I had dinner one evening in the small Parisian-style bistro, which played Louis Armstrong jazz and created a welcoming ambience that felt almost 1920s in feel. The halibut with a champagne and caviar sauce was lovely, and the lemon dessert utterly sublime with wonderful contrasts in zesty smooth curd, sharp creamy yogurt and crispy crunchy meringue.
This was a fabulous hotel and so much better than a large branded chain hotel. I would definitely stay here again for business, although it would also be brilliant for a romantic couples weekend in Bergen.

Completed to your fingertips! Like traveling back to 1900s France. All details were in place. In the rooms, the bed is of the highest quality, good products in the bathroom and the wine cabinet is filled with all kinds of delicious wines. In the restaurant, the food was absolutely delicious, and the staff looked service minded and cheerful! We will return and then we will stay at the hotel all evening! ❤️

Wow what a fantastic hotel. It's like an adventure and a journey in time from the minute you walk in the door. We forgot we were in our own city. Everything about the hotel is done down to the smallest detail, and this creates a unique atmosphere. When we arrived we received a welcome drink at the reception. In our room there was a separate bar cabinet with large bottles of champagne etc and at a reasonable price. We bought a bottle of champagne for under NOK 1000, and we thought that was a good price from a minibar. The breakfast was unique and we ordered 3 dishes from the menu. Everything was tasty and the waiters were service minded.
The dinner at cherie in the evening was also very good. We enjoyed every minute and will be back soon :)

The hotel itself is very stylish and charming, albeit slightly strange that you checkin - in the middle of a busy restaurant with luggage on a busy night at the weekend.
Personally I think the rooms are great, unique decor sets it apart from more bland hotels, I didn’t mind the lack of TV or coffee machine but there was no where for luggage and approx 5 hangers for clothes for 2 people.
The staff in general were really helpful, but at breakfast was a bit annoyed that everyone around us was offered sparkling wine apart from us. Also you were offered one juice, nothing was explained with breakfast, so we thought you could only order one thing off the menu which was very small and once you’d been served, the waitress never came back! Also on our second day we came back to hotel and asked for a drink from the bar, which was empty, asked for a beer and coffee, when we asked what beers they had, any ipa or draft beer, we were told, it’s just larger…we’re not that type of bar, which was an odd, slightly rude comment. We then asked for two coffees and said we’d sit outside and was told, you’ll have to pay before we bring the drinks. As soon as I asked to sign to my room, the staffs attitude changed and became helpful.
Second night, rang reception (on mobile after googling number, as no phone in room and QR code doesn’t work) to ask for an iron. No iron in room, 30 mins later… no iron, rang again, said sorry, 2 mins…but there is a steamer in your closet. After another 20 minutes and no steamer in closet I gave up and just wore a jumper over my creased shirt as we had dinner reservations downstairs in the bistro. It’s not the biggest deal but when you are paying so much for a hotel room and there’s not many in the hotel, you’d expect better service.
Food in restaurant was excellent, very expensive, small portions but very satisfying.
Tbh I really wanted to love this hotel, in many ways I did, decor, (some staff), ambience was excellent. With meals, bar bills & room we paid approx £900 gbp for 2 nights in a small basic room & on that basis for a hotel which was probably less than half full the service was definitely under par. However it is such a unique hotel, you cannot help but fall for its charm.

The hotel advertises air conditioning and it does not have. We had to ask for a fan. There were only two outlets in the room to even plug the fan in. The WiFi didn’t work the whole 24 hours we were there. The shower was tiny and flooded the bathroom floor due to its poor design. They didn’t even have tissue in the room but they sure had a big stocked wine fridge if you wanted to get snookered for a large amount of money. We paid $500 U.S. dollars for this room. The people that worked here were very kind. After I told the front desk in the morning that the room was still so warm overnight and the WiFi didn’t work, I ordered a cappuccino which she made beautifully. But honestly I was surprised I got charged for it after I told her how crappy our sleep was. I wasn’t expecting anything free, but come on. A free cappuccino would help the disappointment.

We were really looking forward to staying at this hotel having read the reviews but we were disappointed. The room itself was lovely and - we stayed in Estelle and it which has a huge comfy bed. However there were small pieces of glass on the carpet which we only realised after stepping on some so the room clearly hadn't been thoroughly hoovered. On reporting this to reception it was not taken seriously or an apology made. We found the smell of perfume throughout the hotel very sickly and overwhelming. We ate in the restaurant which was very expensive. I had lamb which was very undercooked, my partner had fish which was well cooked but bland. There were no vegetables on the menu (salad was the only side along with various potato options) so the waiter said we could have a portion of broccoli. This was totally burnt and inedible. The creme brûlée was good. We found a lot better, nicer, cheaper restaurants in Bergen but would have eaten more in the hotel if the food had been better. Last breakfast booking time is 9.30am and they are very strict on this as the kitchen closes at 10am. We went down at 9.20am but the service was very slow considering many of the options are cold so easily prepared in advance. On the last day there were a lot of people, not staying in the hotel, having breakfast and the wait for a cold croissant sandwich was 50mins which is unacceptable. It seemed to us that hotel guests were not given any priority over the walk ins even though we had booked a time and were needing to check out. Most of the staff were very friendly but we did not find them helpful if there was a problem eg I think broken glass should be dealt with, burnt broccoli should be credited. Overall I would not recommend this hotel.

This is a fun place to stay, but lacking a few basic conveniences. The atmosphere and decor are really over the top in a fun way. Brought to mind an upper end brothel. If you are sensitive to fragrances, don't stay here. The air in all the common areas is perfumed. Less noticeable in the room. Luckily, our windows did open a few inches. The liquid hand soap and body was were heavily perfumed, makes me feel sick. As others have said, you can only adjust the heat 3*. The room had no tea kettle/coffee maker, and the coffee station on the third floor didn't have hot water for tea either. So every time we wanted a cup of tea, I had to go down to the front desk/bar and ask for some. They could at least put an electric tea kettle at the tea/coffee station on the second or third floors. There was also no telephone in the room, so any questions or needs, you have to go down to the front desk, which is the bar of the restaurant, so they are sometimes busy with others. Also no TV in the room. The lighting is kind of tricky to figure out. The velvet curtains blocked out the bright light on the street all night fairly well, except for around the edges and the top. I propped a pillow to try to help. Our room only had a shower and no bathtub. We had gotten used to nice big soaking tubs around Scandinavia. The bathroom was beautiful green marble though.

Dear Guest, Thank you for your honest feedback. We understand that our hotel isn’t for everyone, and that’s okay—we strive to offer something completely different from the norm. Our goal is to create a unique and memorable experience, and we know that might mean some unconventional choices, like the absence of a TV in the rooms. We believe in embracing modern digital tools that allow us to update information in real time, but TV simply isn’t a part of our vision for the guest experience. We appreciate you sharing your thoughts and hope you’ll consider staying with us again if you’re looking for something out of the ordinary. Kind Regards Hôtel Charmante

It was such a wonderful stay!!
From the moment I arrived, it was clear this hotel is more than just a place to stay—it's a visual masterpiece. The aesthetic is a perfect blend of timeless elegance and modern luxury, with every detail thoughtfully crafted to tell a story. The mirrors in the ceilings and the sleek marble set the tone, while each room continues the narrative with clean lines, custom artwork, and luxurious finishes. The design feels like a curated art gallery, where everything from the lighting to the furniture speaks to sophistication and comfort. This hotel is a true celebration of high-end interior design and impeccable taste.

We spent two nights here in July 2024 (before and after the mail boat trip), felt absolutely comfortable and would come back anytime. Excellent service, friendly staff, great rooms with the latest technology and great bathrooms each. The showers are a dream. The decor is deliberately over the top, but those who book here have certainly seen pictures before and an idea of what to expect.
Breakfast is served a la carte (no buffet) and offers a French-inspired selection that allows enough variety for several days.
The hotel is spread over several historic buildings and also has a restaurant and bar with outdoor seating in the alley.
The entire center of the city and the port are within walking distance (but not the mail ship terminal if you have luggage with you) . Taxi travel costs between 260 and 350 NOK, depending on traffic.

We booked this hotel for 3 nights to explore Bergen & fjords.
Our style is new, modern and minimalist, so the decor of this hotel was very different to what we normally would book. However, we really did enjoy the French 19th century style throughout the hotel
Our room was on the 3rd floor with only skylight and no windows. There was a window to the hallway, so we didn't feel too confined. We probably would have preferred a normal window. It was very cozy with the usual facilities. Some people may find it a negative, but I really liked the fact there was no TV in the room.
We liked the music that played in the room as you walk in to give you that French atmosphere. However, I think some items are missing and would be useful, a safe, tissue box and USB plugs for charging.
What we didn't like about the room was that on the first night, there was loud music playing on the 4th floor ( not sure if it's a private bar) of the hotel. After getting up at 4am to catch the plane to Bergen, and packed fjords agenda the next morning from 7:30am, we really needed a good night sleep. Sadly the music was so loud, that it kept us awake until after 2:40am, even when we asked them to turn it down. We were offered to change room at 10:30pm, but we were so tired, we didn't do so.
I messaged the front office and they apologised and offered us complementary lunch at their restaurant and assured us the music will not be playing for the remainder of our stay.
The breakfast daily was delicious and I think it is great idea to have a la carte rather than buffet so you don't over eat. The breakfast restaurant was also beautifully decorated and the staff were friendly and efficient.
The complementary lunch we had were also very tasty and we appreciated the kind gesture to make amends from our disturbed sleep for the 1st night.
Hotel was perfectly located to attractions, restaurants, transportation, and shops, all within very short walking distances.
If we had the options again, we would still book this lovely hotel, we would make sure we don't have a room that would keep us awake from loud music.
