The Clarion Hotel Admiral has garnered mixed feedback, with guests frequently praising its central waterfront location and the extensive breakfast buffet. However, some guests have noted room maintenance and noise issues, and there's a sense that the hotel doesn't always provide good value for money.
While the service is often seen as friendly, criticism arises from inconsistent housekeeping and responsiveness. The atmosphere presents a dichotomy between the lively nearby club and an outdated ambiance, and room cleanliness receives both commendations and complaints.

Had a great stay at the Clarion! I was in a superior room with a view over the water, looking at Bygen, with all the pretty buildings. The room was a decent size and nice bathroom. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Perfect location, walkable to everything.

Stayed here because it came recommended by a freind.
Great location with views over harbour, Bryggen and mountain.
Very helpful reception staff.
Nicely appointed rooms with practical fittings. Kettle for tea/ coffee in room.
Bed and bedding comfortable.
Room245 was tidy but not very clean. It needs a deep clean.
The bathroom vanity needed a wipe down.
Bathroom door is grotty- glass & wood.
Bathroom door frames & lentils dusty.
Tiled wall behind toilet has white stains.
Even the spare toilet paper (wrapped in plastic) is coated in dust.
Behind toilet seat needs dusting
Hand wash & lotion bottles dusty
Bin a bit grotty- foot pedal needs a clean.

It was easy enough to find the hotel but there is no parking. You can just park on the road for a few minutes to unload your luggage and get directions to a nearby carpark. You have to pay NOK184 (20% discount for hotel guests). The staff was very helpful.
The room was modern and clean. There are coffee and tea and a kettle. The bed was very comfortable with large pillows. The tv had one English channel.
Breakfast was a wide sumptuous spread.
Although it was nice I was expecting more for the price and brand. There was body wash, shampoo and conditioner but no other toiletries. The towels are thin and there was no floor cloth to wipe the feet. I booked this hotel for the view but their terrace was under renovations. Staff said it will be a few months.

Room Tip:Â Ask for a room with a view but it will cost more. My single room didn't have a view.

Stayed as part of a Unique North Tour. Good quality Hotel. Great location within (very) easy walking to the fish markets and 10 minutes further to the Hanseatic Wharf at Bryggen. Out room was generous in size, warm, comfortable and clean with a great view out over the Harbour. Breakfast (as we came to discover during our 22 days in Scandinavia) was a pretty standard high quality offering.

This hotel is well located and if you score water views then even better. However, positive points end there. The hotel caters for large groups who have priority for checkin, housekeeping, restaurants bookings. As a couple, we stayed for 6 nights and felt stifled and neglected. Housekeeping had a policy of cleaning rooms for new check-ins so our room was only cleaned mid to late afternoons. After a day of sightseeing, we were not able to rest in our rooms as we waited for the cleaners to clean group rooms first. After 3 complaints at reception, we demanded immediate service so that we could rest and change for dinner. This was a common occurrence. Note, there is no phone in the rooms so you need to visit reception if you have any issues. And there were many issues. Each day after housekeeping, we were either missing water glasses, towels, a bathrobe, bath mat. Little attention to detail. Room rate was not cheap but there was no shower cap let alone vanity set, an overheating fridge so the cupboard door had to be left open, no nonslip mat for the shower in the bathtub. Housekeeping trolleys with dirty towels were left in corridors for hours at a time, even overnight. We had a buildup of dust under the open bedside table upon arrival and it remained like that after 6 days. On the Sunday night when all shops close, we decided to dine in the hotel restaurant but it was not available due to a group booking. This hotel was the first time that we had to pay to use an umbrella (it rains a lot in Bergen), we had to book a 45 min breakfast slot because there were so many people and not enough tables. When we arrived for breakfast, we had to follow arrows around the buffet bench! I am not normally a fussy person, but this hotel seems to have an efficiency drive at the expense of service. And if there is a drinking water jug at reception with cups, it should have water in it!

We had booked 2 bedrooms for 4 people from the 2nd until the 4th August 2020 at Clarion Hotel Admiral of Bergen for 689euros. Unfortunately, the borders of Norway have been closed due to COVID 19, thus we were not able to leave for this dates. In spite of our multiple requests of cancellation and refund, the Clarion hotel is turning a deaf ear. No refund has been undertaken from them. We DO NOT recommend this hotel which is clearly not listening to its client. MUST BE AVOIDED

We spent two nights at this beautiful hotel! We upgraded to a room with a view of the harbor, and I am so glad we did! We enjoyed watching the ferry boats come and go as well as the beautiful view of Bryggen!
We loved our room which was spotless, the bed so comfortable, and the wonderful shower with lots of hot water and good water pressure! Yes, the floor gets wet, but that is typical in Norway! It soon dries out with the heated floor!
The location is perfect, so easy to walk around the city and very convenient to the airport bus!
Breakfast is amazing, anything you could possibly want! Yes, it was a little crowded when it opened at 7:00, but the crowd soon thinned out, with no lack of quantity or selection. The staff was very efficient at removing dirty dishes and sanitizing tables.
I have been visiting Norway since 1970, and I love Bergen! I return about every four years, and I can’t wait to stay at Clarion Hotel Admiral again! Thank you for a wonderful stay!

We were booked into this hotel as part of a not expensive package and were pleasantly surprised by how good it was. The location on the water is lovely and our room 221 did have a side view. The room is pretty basic but modern and clean and nothing to complain about. Breakfast is lovely and the restaurant itself serves very good food. There is a nice bar, which could possibly do with more comfy chairs but perhaps that's just me. The hotel is also very convenient for all attractions. Highly recommended.

This hotel does exactly what you expect it to and well. Its location on the harbour wall right opposite the Bryggen is hard to beat. The building is old and draws a lot of character from that compared to some the more antiseptic new hotels. It's very well maintained and modern inside. The staff are very helpful and the breakfast was just outstanding, in its variety and quality with lots of healthy options. One caveat is that we had originally booked a standard room though Hurtigruten which although perfectly decent had no view and was a bit dark so we upgraded and got what turned out to be a superb room. Obviously this enhanced our experience but even without, the hotel is a lovely place to stay.

We had some good and some quite bad experiences over the 6 nights we stayed there. Awesome view from our nice room - which we especially chose. That was the good part. However our rooms were only cleaned late afternoon - often after 4pm and then only after repeated complaints at the front desk. (Which you cannot call from your room as there is no phone). It turns out the reason for this is that most of the stays are from large tour groups - and there rooms get done before anyone unfortunate enough to be staying more than one night. Good hotel so long as you do not want to stay more than one night.

I don’t recall any parking being available. The Hotel is on the harbour front and so space was limited.
You can take the tram from the Airport it is very convenient taxi will be very expensive as it is far from the airport
It's walkable, uner 15 minutes in beautiful surroundings, safe, and roller bag friendly most of the time. Or you could use the tram for a part of the route.
The bus stops over the road at the Fish Market, it’s literally a 2 minute walk to the hotel with your luggage.
It was a queen size with separate bedding. Location is wonderful!
