This is a beautiful historic hotel that is very well maintained. Here’s why we loved it:
- Staff are wonderful. Welcoming and very helpful.
- The room was a grand deluxe double room - it was just stunning. Two rooms, a seating area and bedroom, separated by a high arch. Amazing bed and linen. Very comfortable couch to flake out on after a day of walking. Each room is uniquely decorated. Everything in the room was well maintained …no stains, scuffles, etc.
- Breakfast is very good - loads of choice and good quality. Nice location.
- We had dinner in the restaurant - it was okay. The decor is worth it!
- This hotel has some of the most interesting light fixtures! Walk around …they actually give tours!
- Location was just perfect to explore the city - about 10 mins to the Opera. Lots of nice restaurants in walking distance.
- We will definitely return!

The Grand Hotel Oslo, which opened in 1874, is located in Oslo’s city center and based only 500 meters from the Royal Palace. In addition, the Karl Johan high street and luxury boutiques and the popular area Aker Brygge are within a few minutes’ walk of the hotel. The Stortinget Metro Station is just around the corner, while the National Theater and its train station is 600 meters away from Grand Hotel. So, the location is perfect for visitors.

The friendliness of the staff starting with the General Manager, who welcomed us personally, the quick friendly check-in process and the great and knowledgeable staff members in the Othilia lobby bar and Palmen restaurant, are exemplary and makes the Grand Hotel Oslo special for each guest.

We enjoyed free access to the close Artesia spa on weekdays and free access to the WiFi during our whole stay. Our guest room was equipped with comfortable and classic furniture, a flat-screen TV, minibar and on the balcony, we had a wonderful view over Oslo.

In addition, the Grand Hotel offers during the day great food and drink options. The breakfast buffet served in the Grand Café is just amazing. You feel in a place where past and present meets. The huge painting provides an historic atmosphere of the late 19th century. The salmon prepared in different ways is delicious and the variety of fresh fruits help to start healthy into the day. Lunch and dinner are offered in the Palmen restaurant with a menu consisting of large and small dishes in a fusion of continental and Nordic cuisine. In the evening Othili`s lobby bar offers nicely prepared drinks and cocktails in a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere.

I really enjoyed my time at this grand hotel. Its location is perfect, and all of the staff are super friendly. I also really enjoyed the main sqaure view from my tiny room. The morning concierge was amzingly friendly and helpful. I do have a few suggestions for the hotel. 1.) If I have a simple request, I do not see what the staff have to check with another staff member before honoring that request. This happened twice for two simple requests. 2.) My second night, the housekeeping cart was left infront of my room almost all afternoon and all night. The next morning when I woke up, it was still there. I've never seen that before at any hotel. 3.) Upon checking in and going to my room the first time, there was about 1/20 of the toilet paper roll left in my bathroom, again I have never seen this at any hotel before (literally every other hotel leaves a new, full roll). Despite these small setbacks, I highly recommend this hotel and I will return next time I am in Oslo!

I had been looking forward to staying at the Grand hotel in Oslo. The hotel has a bit of a mysterious and glamorous vibe about it and I thought I would be in for a treat (especially considering the price per night). First night, room service - awesome vegan burger delivered by a very polite man.

I did notice that the ceiling lamp seemed to be broken. There was light, but bits and pieces of the lamp seemed to be missing. Well, I thought, no problem, I still got light.

Next day, the breakfast was somehow disappointing. I came down 9am to find sweaty and hard Jarlsberg cheese. The coffee was tasteless (I did not have covid) and the freshly pressed juice seemed to have been watered out. Breakfasts at Norwegian hotels are normally amazing, but this time there was nothing amazing about it. I had prepaid breakfast for 3 mornings...my bad. Also, there was a mixup with the bill as regards to breakfast. Since my plane left very early my last morning, I was not able to have the last breakfast, so I asked them to reimburse me the one breakfast that I had prepaid. Instead, they added a breakfast fee which they later subtracted, meaning I still had paid for one extra breakfast. Not that this is a lot of money, its just that I would expect that a "grand" hotel would be able to easily find a way to reimburse something that was paid too much.

My last night, after having dinner with a friend, I decided to watch some TV. The TV did switch on, but it kept switching off again and sound and image was not in sync for most of the time. So, no TV, or at least, not for long.

As stated earlier, I had to get up super early to catch my plane to Paris. I wanted to have a quick shower in the morning, to get ready and wake up properly. I waited and waited and waited, but no hot water came. I ended up taking a supercold shower. You might say that I got what I asked for, I did wake up! But, I would have preferred a warmer shower.

Room, water and food was not the best at this hotel. However, the staff was AMAZING. People in the reception, in the bar, the cleaning personnel and the barman, they were all professional and welcoming people. Too bad they have a rundown hotel to look after.

Dear Rigmor, Thanks for sharing your hotel experience with us, it helps us improve and get even better at what we do. We’re sad to hear that you were not satisfied with the room and breakfast, and we are also sad to hear that you didn't get any hot-water on your last day, that is not the Grand standard. Your guest experience is really important to us, we’ve already taken several actions to ensure that it won’t happen in the future! After all we’re pleased to hear that you were happy with our staff and we hope you will stay with us again soon and give us a chance to give you a better hotel stay. The hotel has a great location in the centre of Oslo, you really can't beat it. The room was clean and modern but a bit on the small side. The breakfast service was the worst we'd ever had in a hotel. 30 min wait to be seated and on every occasion we went, several of the food stations had run out of food. I saw on numerous occasions how the chef used his hands to move food from the oven trays to the serving trays and he had a plaster (not plastic but material) on his finger. Extremely unhygienic. There was also no doorman and no one to help you take your bags to the room, which involved several stairs to the elevator and again on the room floor to get to our room. I would exact better from a 5 star hotel.

The hotel is not clean, this is a big problem in a 5 star hotel like the Grand Hotel. The rooms and bathrooms (542 and 545) were not clean, the windows and mirrors had marks, shampoo bottles had finger marks, carpets in the hallways of the 4th and 5th floors were not clean (carpets were not vacuumed), the elevator was also dirty, lamps had finger marks, makeup mirror in room 542 was smashed, makeup mirror in room 545 did not have batteries, and so forth. The coffee cups at Grand Cafe also had coffee stains from previous guests. The sauna was out of service too. We stayed three nights at the hotel, the last two days room 542 was not cleaned. Grand Hotel is in a very good location but the value for money is missing, the rooms are also very simple, perhaps in the same category as a regular Scandic hotel, it is not worth paying as much as in the Ritz.

We were very disappointed with the Grand Hotel. The location was excellent but everything else was poor. On entering the room I used the bathroom then found there was no soap or any other toiletries so couldn’t wash my hands. Went to make a cup of coffee and the milk in the fridge was off - a congealed mess in a jug. A light bulb was not working and there was curtain hook on the floor. There were no slippers in the room. Breakfast in the morning looked good but the hot dishes were only lukewarm. The room itself looked into the windows of another building so was rather dark and the carpet had a large bleach stain. We complained to reception about the lack of toiletries, then again after finding the sour milk and for a third time about the lightbulb. We kept on being given apologies but by the third visit to reception and asking for the manager we were offered a complimentary meal. The manageress of the restaurant was very helpful and obliging. We do not normally complain but feel the standards at the hotel were very poor and certainly not worth five stars.

We spent 3 nights here and overall a good experience. Location is great and had many amenities to choose from. Room service is fast however, I thought it was strange that water is not provided in the rooms (not even in the mini fridge) - so ended up ordering from room service which ended up being $230 NOK. Just a disclaimer for those staying here!

This is an eye openingly bad hotel and I would urge anyone to think twice before booking. First of all, upon check in the hotel had the rooms mixed up. I booked the junior suite via booking.com but was told that I booked a smaller room and that they were doing me a favour by upgrading me to the junior suite. There was no bell man and the luggage took forever to arrive, as the staff delivered it to another room. The entire row of rooms adjacent to ours were being refurbished, so when we entered we could hear the all the drilling and noise from the other rooms. Naturally we asked to be relocated. However at 3:30pm when clearly not all of the guests have checked in we were told that they were fully booked and that there was nothing they could do. The same drilling continued the next day, which was Sunday, and when I tried to speak to the manager I was told that I could leave if I wanted to. As soon as the staff realised that the other guests could overhear us security came and attempted to shut me off. I have stayed at five star hotels over 50 countries and never have I been threatened in this manner. The staff hold a lot of prejudice and seem to think think that they could easily silence us as we are two petite Asian women. The room was also very out of date. The sofa in our first room was broken and the shower drain in the second was faulty. There are no amenity kits and no water, which are a given in any five star hotel, and being located in Oslo is not an excuse and all other hotels I’ve stayed in Scandinavia have not had this kind of problem. I urge anyone considering booking here to stay away.

We were exited to visit the Grand hotel for a weekend to celebrate a family birthday. We were lucky our room was ready before official check in time, and check in very smooth, welcoming and efficient. The porter took our luggage to the room. Our junior suite was facing the main street and the Parlament building. Bed was really comfy and the room impeccably clean and fresh. Nice bathroom and lovely toiletries.

Staff was happy to help and provided the highest level of service throughout the hotel and all departements. The concierge gave us a lot of suggestions of places to visit like the Munch Museum, Deichman Library and areas for shopping. The Grand Hotel is located in walking distance to The Airport train and two underground stations.

The Othelia lobby bar was busy, but the service from the barkeeper was attentive and we had a nice table overlooking the lobby and enjoyed a glass of champagne to start the weekend.

Dinner in the Palmen restaurant was delicious, both food and wine served with attention and a smile. As a very nice surprise, the birthday girl was honored with a complimentary cake for desert. The interior in Palmen is for sure very stylish.

Weather was nice, and we went up to Eight roof top bar after dinner for a drink. The wiev over Oslo is probably the best available in the city center.

Extensive breakfast buffet in the Grand Cafe, we were lucky to have a table by the window facing Karl Johan.

On Saturday we went for Afternoon Tea. We really liked everything and highly appreciated the Bollinger. The atmosphere was very pleasant with the nice interior, the fantastic italian chandelier and a pianoplayer who set the tone and accompanied one waiter singing. We loved the 2-3 hours in the afternoon in Palmen.

In total a fantastic stay. Thanks to the excellent staff who were more than eager to please their guests.

This was a first class hotel. We needed heat--and that was no problem. Not sure Oslo has that much need for AC but I'm sure they have it--for quiet noise if nothing else.
