Detailed Reviews
Lovely people, excellent hospitality, great food! Plumbing in the room needs a little attention. The shower had very low pressure, which might not be something that the guesthouse can control. The taps in the basin were a bit loose, but that did not detract from the experience. I think the cats had been in the room as my daughter's allergies started soon after we arrived. The mosqitoes were a problem but we had anticipated this and brought some mosquito pads with us. Having said all this, we had a very pleasant experience and would stay there again.

Driving back from Cape Town to JOHANNESBURG, I needed a convenient place to break the journey. Hanover meets the need, and Boutique Guesthouse does so well. It was a pleasant surprise - starting with secure off-street parking, and rooms arranged around a courtyard with plunge pool. My room was big and well equipped. Dinner was plain but good. Service was friendly and efficient.

Very friendly service from booking to leaving. Rooms were beautifully decorated, clean and functional and obviously someone has spent time thinking about how the rooms are appointed. The linen is especially a pleasant surprise. The food was generous and tasty and the breakfast was rustic and filling. Aircon and a swimming pool make a huge difference and the parking was safe. It was all very relaxed and the whole experience was tasteful and professional. Will bear this in mind whenever we make the trip.

Slept over in two rooms as a family of six traveling on holiday. The rooms had a very nice feel with a countryside atmosphere. It was well prepared and attended to. The excess mosquitos was a concern but mosquito repellent was supplied in each room. The establishment can do with additional mosquito killer & repellent devices.
The dinner was a decent plate of lamb shank and healthy vegetables. However, the pricing was a disappointment for something average and changed our mind into not having breakfast.
NB: We paid R1000 per room via Lekkerslaap, but had to pay another R100 afterwards to have the two rooms closer to one another, which is hard to justify.

On the day of checking in the establishment had no record of our having booked for meals. The price that was quoted online differed from the final bill (evening meal was quoted as R180 per person and ended up being R220 per person AND we were charged R45 extra for dessert. Breakfast was a little less in inflated at R100 per person (quoted price was R90 per person). Food was not worth the price.

We stayed in the family suite. It was large by guesthouse standards of a similar nature. There a two rooms with a massive bathroom. All were squeaky clean. There is no separate shower but the bath tub has a hand held shower. The Charlotte Rhys amenities added a touch of luxury. The gardens are beautiful. The guest services communicated well. Breakfast and dinner can be ordered. Will stay again.

We chose Hanover as our first stop en route to Cape Town from Durban. A long drive only to find a real gem at Boutique Guesthouse Hanover. We were welcomed by a very friendly Hannah and shown to our beautifully decorated room for the night. The decor and attention to detail was amazing. Accommodation is pristine and our dinner of lamb shank and vegetables was delicious if not a bit pricey at R220 a plate. A welcome and very comfortable establishment in a town albeit deserted and sadly forgotten and neglected since our precious visit 25 years ago. I found a little gem at this quest house and compliment the owner and management on what they have done with this old house.

The place is dog friendly which was what attracted us to it. Unfortunately we didn't expect dirty carpets with dog faeces remaining on it. Rather make dog friendly rooms no carpets and shorten curtains to avoid the smell in the room.
Also meals were a shocker, had heard so much about the lamb shank but felt like rather having the lamb chops and my wife had chicken. They were 2 days overcooked like rubber and was then charged R180 for 2 dry chops mash and peas, seriously. 2 dry chicken breasts mash and peas R160. Also dog owners, there is a surprise R50 per dog on your bill at the end of your stay.

The parking was safe and the rooms were decent.
The designated staff could not cope with the number of people arriving, and to have a pre dinner drink on the patio took a while to arrange.
The dinner was very tasteless, and not worthy of the Price charged. There was a very small selection of wines to choose from, which was in the kitchen. Hardly a boutique experience.
They do not offer a packed breakfast should you wish to leave earlier than 730 am when breakfast starts. All in all not a great experience.

On our arrival we were shown to our room, only to discover that the room had no cupboard in which to hang our clothes - I had these on hangers on the back seat of the car. This is the first time that I have ever stayed in an hotel where there was no cupboard or hanging space. I was informed that one had to request a room with a cupboard! It then started raining heavily and unfortunately rain was coming in under the window due to the fact that the overhead gutter was leaking badly and also under the door. After reporting it, the staff brought towels and blankets to soak up the water on the floor. Hannah did her best to assist and offered us another room to sleep in but we didn't want to have to pack up everything and move.
