Nestled in the heart of Copenhagen, Hotel Kong Arthur is lauded for its central location, allowing guests to conveniently explore the city's attractions. The hotel's atmosphere is often described as warm and cozy, particularly appreciated during the 'cozy hour' which, along with the service, receives high marks for the staff's welcoming nature. While the cleanliness of the rooms is a standout feature, some guests have noted that noise can be an issue, and the on-site dining options are on the pricier side. Despite mixed reviews regarding room size and noise, the amenities, including the spa, are generally celebrated.

Situated slightly remote from a busy street the "Kong Arthur" offers tasteful accommodation and cosy atmosphere in the middle price segment.
The rooms in the "old" house (Kong Arthur One) are nicely adapted. We had one in the upper floor with a nice view over the Peblinge Lake and enough space to move despite the big wooden rafters throughout our room.
Staff has a nice nordic sense of humor and treats people politely and warm.
The (completely organic) breakfast IMHO was the best hotel-breakfast, that we ever had. Speaking of its responsible abundance, product quality, variety and presentation.
(Very) small restriction (seen with the eyes of an Austrian): the ordinary breakfast coffee does not really comply with central-european or mediterranean taste. But a very kind and friendly barista compensates this little lack with Espresso, Americano or Cappuccino.
And BTW the breakfast staff is more than tough, friendly and attentive even in the rush hours.
Another very nice gesture: earplugs and a 50 DKK voucher for a free drink are deposited in the hotel room as a compensation for the noise of nearby adaption works.
And finally you can check in every afternoon between 17:00 and 18:00 for a free drink at the "Cosy Hour" in the lobby and the bar.
Special points for friendliness of staff and this very much appreciated nordic sense of humor with a twinkling eye and a warm heart.

Wauw, thank you very much for your wonderful review and for taking your time to get back to us. We take all feedback very serious and we are so happy to hear that you liked it here. Pleased to hear that you liked the style and the atmosphere of the room and glad to hear that you had the chance to participate in Cozy Hour. We think that Cozy Hour is a great way for our guests to relax after a long day of work or get to socialize with some of the other guests. Thank you for complementing my colleagues in the front and their wonderful humor. I will make sure to pass on your kind words. Our New Nordic breakfast is based on local and organic ingredients and we focus on sustainability in the process of making it. We want to give our guests an experience of the local food culture. We are so happy to hear that you liked it. We are looking very much forward to welcoming you back. All the best Amalie Holm / Hotel Kong Arthur

Room was cleaned fragrance free on request and done fairly well - limited fragrance residue only on the curtains. Staff were super helpful in accommodating this and also a check in delay when I missed my first flight there. Design of the hotel and room were done really well in Danish style. Nice upgrade given free. Bathroom is a wetroom with quite effective fan, but it does mean ahowering soaks the whole bathroom floor - bring flip flops or similar. Bed was comfy enough for one. Only major problem is noise transmission frim the hallway into the room and the creaking floorboards. They provided ear plugs but I can't use them so was woken up 5-6 times each night. I was on the top (5th) floor and I imagine the noise would have been worse on any other floor.

We stayed at the Kong Arthur for a week-long family vacation between Christmas and New Years, and it was a great choice. The lobby is very stylishly Danish and has plenty of space to hang out in. The rooms (at least in the wing we were in) were pretty average sized for a European city, though obviously small by American standards. Ours was unadorned but very comfortable and well appointed (coffee machine, fridge, iron, hair dryer). It looked out on a street but was very quiet because central Copenhagen has hardly any car traffic. (I gather from reading reviews that not all wings of the building are the same, so do check what room you are getting). The breakfast buffet is amazing with all sorts of nordic breads, cheese, herring, eggs, waffles and cereals. We ate so much we never needed to eat lunch. The staff are super friendly and helpful, and at least the week we were there there was a daily ''cozy hour'' at 17h when they offered a free glass of wine, beer or iced tea, and you can hang out in the lobby with the other guests. It was a really nice touch. Denmark is a very exensive country for eating out, but there is a superb food market about a 5 minute walk away. We got take-out food one evening and the staff very nicely gave us plates and cutlery to take to our room. The hotel location is very good, with bus and metro connections right near by, a quick walk across a bridge to the trendy Norrebro neighborhood, or a 15 to 20-minute walk to the main sites and museums. The hotel has a small gym, with a few cardio machines and free weights (there are also lots of jogging options right near the hotel). There's a spa, but we never tried it because it costs extra. The hotel is full of nice touches, like having a luggage scale in the storage room so you can weigh your bags before heading back to the airport. If I would make just a few minor comments it would be that the breakfast coffee could be stronger, and I wasn't wild about our shower. It was one of those trendy euro open showers with no curtain and confusing controls. But these are minor points. We had a great stay.

Thank you for the review and for taking the time to write to us. We truly appreciate all the information about your experience at Hotel Kong Arthur. We are so happy you were satisfied with your room. Also, how wonderful you joined us for Cozy Hour. As you mention, every day at 17, we serve a glass of wine, beer or a non-alcoholic drink for our guests. We think it is a great way to relax after a busy day in the city, but also perfect for meeting fellow travellers. We are glad you liked it! Thank you for also mentioning our location. As you describe, it is easy to access public transportation and cool areas such as Nørrebro. Also, Copenhagen is a very walkable city, so it is quite easy to walk between the different attractions. Thank you for the feedback on our coffee and showers. We appreciate it as it helps us improve! We hope to see you again another time. All the best Sofie Rasmussen / Hotel Kong Arthur

Going through the trip advisor reviews I was flabbergasted. Are you people being serious?? Best Hotel?? Amazing?? Don't make me laugh. The staff didn't smile once (the danes are just cold cold people), the rooms are tiny and the difference between the new wing and the old one is just embarrassing. They did not add one drop of extra shampoo, soap, conditioner and body lotion once during our 5 days stay there!! My husband and I have traveled to many places across Europe and never have we experienced such cheapness and low hospitality, we invited another couple to stay there and they put them in the old wing which is basically an old attic with a bed in the center (literally with no space to move). The showers were terrible in our room (new wing) water so faint and cold, could never properly shower. Lounge is plain disgusting with cleaning staff leaving at 5 PM so drunk cups would stay till morning, no one would think about fixing the couches or freshening up the room. They gave us 50 KR as a voucher to buy something from bar, my husband and I decided to get beer, it turned 17 dollars more! The spa was just awful (largest spa in Copenhagen they said). , in fact a tiny little hole not enough to fit 7 people, dark and dirty. When checking out, they tried to charge us for a bus trip around the city which we never bought or got!! Hated the experience and will never go back to Kong Arthur again.

When you enter the front of this hotel it does look grand, but as soon as the front doors opens automatically revealling even more stairs than the stairs outside at the front, and there is no lift nor anyone to help you up, well, that’s when you realise that this might turn into more of a hassle than predicted if either in a wheel chair or with a small child in a push chair. Fair enough, the hotel was probably build before push chairs and wheel chairs had been invented, but as they are now both here to stay, I would suggest this hotel needs to reconsider the way guests are met. An automatic door is sure not sufficuent. After having made my way up the stairs by myself finally, the receptionist asked to move my reservasjon to another room where they would be able to provide a bed large enough for my child to sleep in the same bed as me. It all sounded very and well had it not been for the fact that this room was located far away from lifts, including (wait for it) even more stairs and quite a bit of a to and from reception... Not exactly what I would call an upgrade. In fact, the wing in which we were located, was so old fashioned and contained so many strange medevial replicas on the wall, that it got me wondering (almost googleling) if the medeval times was indeed big in the 80s? Anyway, the location (once you can get your way in and out) is good but I would not call it a very practical or high standard experience.

Thank you for your review. We are glad you appreciated some features at Hotel Kong Arthur. You are right, we have 10 steps at the main entrance. Unfortunately, we can't change the old mansion's facade. Our buildings are from another century - from a time when the architects' mindsets were different. However, we have made some reconstructions in the interior and we have elevators allover. We are opening a new entrance within the next 14 days, which is closer to the metro station, Nørreport, and at the same time, we will get a ramp. Accordingly, it will be much easier to get around with a pushchair. Come back another time and try our new ramp. Remember to tell my nice colleagues at the reception about your preferences for the room when you are checking in. I am sure they will be able to find a room of your liking. Normally they are very good at that. All the best Marie Thyssen /Hotel Kong Arthur

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hotel Kong Arthur. The location was right in the centre of Copenhagen and within walking distance of most places we wanted to visit. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was very spacious and cleaned to a superb level, and we also felt the bed was extremely comfortable and we slept brilliantly. We cannot comment on breakfast as we did not include this, we felt it was a little pricey compared to breakfasts in cafes near by, nevertheless I’m sure it’s a lovely breakfast. We throughly recommend staying here.

Thank you so much for your kind review. Your recommendation is the best praise we can get. We are grateful for your wonderful words and look forward to welcoming you again another time. Regarding our breakfast we would like to tell that the food is organic and that it’s based on local produce. We call it New Nordic breakfast. We offer free barista coffee too, if you like that. Still the price is at level of most standard hotel breakfasts at 4-starred hotels. You might not want to miss that experience next time. If you only want a bun and a coffee for breakfast there are options in our neighborhood, as you mention. We are looking forward to welcoming you again. All the best Marie Thyssen /Hotel Kong Arthur

We decided to come here to celebrate our 1 year wedding anniversary and Kong Arthur really impressed us. The receptionist Simone was very helpful and we were given a newly renovated room with an updated bathroom, a rain shower and a view to the garden. We had spa access as well, and although it is not a huge spa, it was very clean and cozy with a jacuzzi, steam and sauna room, and a cold bath. They have a happy hour where you can get a glass of something on the house in the afternoon which we enjoyed in the cute lobby. The breakfast was well done according to all corona restrictions. All in all, this is a very charming 4 star hotel in a great location, and I would definitely come back here for a staycation again!

Nice hotel and well located. But only if you stay in a renovated room. The unrenovated rooms are dark, filthy and absolutely not up to standard. Reservation process was useless: on several calls and emails well in advance to make sure yo get a renovated light snd airy room we got told to book a junior suite to make sure to obtain such a room. On arrival late in the evening, very tired, we got allocated to a horrible old, dark and gruffy room. When calling the reception, I had to face a very rough and rude girl explaining that they don’t have renovated junior suites and that’s the reason why they put us in this old room. What the heck went wrong here? The more you pay, the worse the room? And when mentioning the lack of care and cleanliness she didn’t stop saying “we’re a boutiiiiique hotel”.. does this justify substandard customer experience and lack of politness?
For our second night we managed to get downgraded to a nice, renovated room.
The public area is lovely, breakfast with a large choice. Just insufficient personel and lack of space made the experience slightly less pleasant.
Note to the managers: please improve reservations service and teach customer-friendliness to some of your staff. Oh and expand the lovely renovations to all your rooms asap, please. Thank you

Giorgos Ampavis (stayed from 30/4 to 3/5 at family room for 3)

I travelled with my family (wife and 7 year old son) on 30/4/22 and stayed for 3 nights.

The staff at the hotel were very helpful and available all the time. They offered us a lot of advice on things to do and see.

The room was also very good, spacious, very quiet and super clean. the cleaners came every single day.

The breakfast was really good, high quality and very healthy and with enough options. The DIY pancakes was also so much fun, our son enjoyed making them a lot.

More importantly, it is based at a superb location, within small walking distance from the shopping centre and from many major sights and places. That made a huge different to our stay in Copenhagen as we only had to walk around (and we had a 7 year old with us).

Bonus points for the happy hour every afternoon!

We will most definitely visit again!!

Pros - The hotel is in a great location, well positioned between the city centre and the more vibrant bar/restaurant area to the north of the lakes. The room was a good size with good amenities (fridge, tea/coffee, iron, safe) and the bed was comfy. I enjoyed the free drink every evening in the bar from 5-6 (“cosy hour”), this was a nice touch. Staff were very attentive and polite.

There were a few small niggles. The cleaning of the room was not to a good standard. For example, the bin hadn’t been properly emptied from the last guest (had a cigarette packet in), glassware had stains on, there was hair in the shower drain and a thick layer of dust on many of the shelves. Empty glasses and bags of towels were left out in corridors. Although I think the room was recently refurbished you could also see a number of scuff marks on the walls which detracted from the feel of the room. I can only presume the cleaning staff were on a third party contract and not fully aligned to the values of the rest of the hotel staff.

My other slight frustration was breakfast, which was basically just absurdly busy, with too many tables packed on top of one another in a small room. I later saw a sign in the lift noting to try and avoid the “busy hours” of breakfast which I would strongly recommend you attempt to. The food itself was of good quality and I think they try and source local/ in season produce; the downside of this is selection was sometimes a bit weird, like serving whole carrots and green beans when would have probably just preferred a better variety of fruits; and serving eggs / bacon together as a waffle topping rather than separately (I hate egg!)

Overall not a bad hotel, but for £150/ night in a few areas I was expecting a little more.

Hi Jeanette, Thank you for your message. Our Junior Suites all have one king size bed (180 cm) or two single beds (2 x 90 cm). It is possible in our Junior Suites to have up to two extra bedding options. These will be either a pouf bed, a roll-in bed, or a fold-out sofa bed depending on the room and the availability. You can find more information about our rooms and their characteristics on our website. Kind regards Astrid, Hotel Kong Arthur
