After eating at the Avli restaurant last August, when I looked to visit Rethymno this month with my mum and saw they had rooms with excellent reviews I knew I had to book based on how exquisite my experience was in their restaurant.
Needless to say, it lived up and exceeded expectations.
On arrival, we had to wait a small while but they took us to the courtyard garden for complimentary drinks and meze- amazing! When we then checked in, we were upgraded to suite with balcony and roof terrace- spectacular! Rooms have traditional Cretan features however clean fresh fun and modern. Beautifully done. Dinner in the restaurant again was a must and just as good as last time, breakfast was on par too- best hotel breakfast I have had! The location is perfect, parking is easy in the fortezza Carpark only €10 for 24 hours. Staff all so wonderfully friendly. It’s my little haven in the middle of a beautiful town. I will try to visit once a year!

This is a really beautiful accommodation with a lot of love for details, in the hearth of the old city of Rethymnon. The 8 rooms / suites are in 3 different buildings, which are very close to each other. On the roof of one building there is a roof teracce with a small plunge pool. As the rooms / suites are in historical buildings, nothing can be changed, which means that there are no elevators. This might be an issue for some, as the steps are very steep.

We had booked to separate rooms and were upgraded to a Junior and Executive suite. Both of them very beautiful and tastefully decorated. The Executive suite has a small balcony overlooking the tapas restaurant which belongs to AVLI and a roof teracce, which is great at night (during the day it was too hot / sunny there).

Upon check-in we got offered a drink of choice in the tapas restaurant, and as it was lunch time, a tasty mezze platter. Breakfast is served in the lovely small garden and is very tasty, using only locally grown and produced products.

Eleni and Stelios made our short 2 nights stay at AVLI very enjoyable. Should I return to Rethymnon, I will definitely return to AVLI.

Many good things to say about Avli, from the taxi pickup at the airport they arranged which was a high quality car, to the excellent staff and service, cleanliness and beautiful location and room towards the quieter back of the building on the first floor with roof top terrace and jacuzzi which was stunning. Room was spacious with character furnishings, a large separate bathroom with jacuzzi bath and a small balcony which unfortunately did not have a view and there was not a lot of natural light. Bed was huge and comfortable. Breakfast was atmospheric in Avli’s beautiful courtyard garden, although it was the same Cretan breakfast everyday which does not cater for all tastes and could be more variety of choice. It is a historic building and as such there is some noise you hear from the common areas and apartment above which could be improved. We had a nice stay, and some great moments in lovely rethymnon.

Based in the heart of the old town, we picked individual apartment style acommodation as it was our first trip abroad since covid restrictions lifted and where we would not feel under any pressure. This was the perfect choice. Breakfast each day was excellent quality with standard breads, juices and coffee as well as yoghurt with honey and fruit and a choice of egg dishes suitable for both meat eaters and vegetarians. We also dined in the restaurant two evenings and it's number one rating is entirely justified. All of the staff really looked after us and were attentive to every detail. They organised a personal trip up to Arkadi Monastery for us upon request and also printed for us all of our paperwork that we had to provide for our homeward travel arrangements. The old town itself is delightful and compact with short walking distance to the sea front, Venetian Port and the Fortezza. Day trips to Knossos also available from the town.

This hotel was hands down one of the best deals I've ever gotten in terms of quality for the price. The check in process was stellar: we were greeted by the manager Nikos, who was so kind and hospitable, and he immediately welcomed us to sit in the charming courtyard, having his staff bring us wine and snacks while we filled out the check-in paperwork. And by the way, this is Crete, so the snacks were absolutely delicious! Nikos also gave us recommendations regarding dining and shopping, with honest advice about where to shop to avoid tourist prices. We splurged and had dinner (with wine pairing) at the hotel restaurant and it was a very nice, romantic and memorable meal. Our room was very comfortable and quiet, with tons of character, as the building dates back to the Venetian times. I would recommend this hotel to anyone and I would definitely stay here again on my next trip to Rethymno.

Location was perfect in the centre of the old town and a short walk to everywhere.
Our room, the champagne suite, was large, well equipped and very nicely decorated with a small balcony (no view). There was a healthy flight of stairs to negotiate (although our luggage was delivered to the room) and climbing in and out of the jacuzzi tub to access the shower was a challenge.
What sets this hotel apart is the staff – everyone from reception, restaurant, housekeeping were so kind , helpful and eager to please we were sorry to leave.
We ate at both restaurants, the first night with no reservation they still managed to squeeze us in; and both meals were fabulous. Breakfast in the outdoor garden was great – one of the best breakfasts we have experienced anywhere- everything served at the table with a choice of egg dishes and coffees.
Highly recommended, we would have stayed longer had we known what a great spot this is.

This hidden gem within the quaint and lively old town promises a stay with cherished feelings and memories of Rethymno to take home with you. Our experience, enhanced by the exceptional hospitality and thoughtfully appointed, unique, clean, and spacious rooms, truly made the difference in our stay- elevating it from what we would expect, to what was remarkably extraordinary. What more can I say here other than our stay at the Avli was special and one of a kind!

What a lovely week spent in the red suite in Avli boutique hotel. Decor authentic and room spacious. Our only minor issues were somewhere to hang wet swim suits as no balcony and toilet within the room was not very private but the over all experience made up for this.
Breakfast was served every morning within beautiful courtyard garden and was varied and delicious in the traditional Greek style with fresh ingredients.
Meals in both restaurants were exceptional. Chef is the same for both restaurants and is really passionate and talented.
Staff all attentive and friendly and made us very welcome. Stella and Dina looked after us so well.
We made use off the roof top jacuzzi a few times and enjoyed the cocktails.
Would recommend Avli especially for couples but families with children also stayed.

We loved our stay at AVLI Apartments. The room we booked was lovely, clean and had everything we needed. The reception staff were very helpful with arranging a car service to pick us up from the airport, making dinner reservations and suggestions on what to do during our stay. The daily breakfast was amazing. The staff arranged for us to receive breakfast on a morning that we had an early excursion, which did not allow us to have breakfast in the restaurant. We had dinner twice at one of the hotel restaurants, which was also amazing, both food and service. I can't say enough about our stay!

I don't even know where to start. Everything about this hotel stay was perfection. We only had one night here but next time we will stay longer. We were upgraded to a beautiful room which was just stunning with everything you could possibly need in it. Huge comfortable bed, Nespresso machine, robes, slippers, you name it. We chose to eat in their restaurant in the hotel (not the other restaurant they own next door) and had such an amazing evening. The food was amazing and full of flavour, the wine cellar was amazing with beautiful wines and the ambiance was just perfect. Oh, and the breakfast was divine too! We sat out in the same courtyard where we ate dinner which is so pretty. All the breads, jams etc were home made and they were amazing! But the winning deal was that the staff bent over backwards to ensure guests wanted for nothing and were just so courteous and friendly. There was absolutely nothing I could fault here and am so looking forward to our next visit. Thank you for looking after us so well!

We stayed in an apartment last August in Rethymno old town, it was right in the midst of the noise at night. We then stayed in an Avli suite for one night before we flew home and found our suite very quiet at night. Our room was further away from the noisier areas of the old town. The quietness was truly noticeable!
