Detailed Reviews
Hotel's Favourite
We booked one of the front sea view rooms. It's worth the difference. Comfy bed, mini fridge, shower room and air con. We always book the half board tariff. The breakfast is buffet style with a great mix of hot and cold dishes which vary from day to day. Plenty for all tastes. The staff are a delight, so warm and friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Downtown Chania is a bit of a walk but there are plenty of shops and tavernas to distract you on the way. But why bother anyway? Because you won't get better food than right on the spot in Restaurant Theodesi. Thats another review though! Golden beach is one of the best swimming/sunbathing beaches on the island and has super beach bars/tavernas and is just a 20 minute walk away (with abit of a hill involved). If you don't fancy the hill 10Euros gets you a cab. All in all a gem. We'll be back o see Theo and company again of course.

Stayed here for 4 nights August 2020. The hotel is in a quiet location away from any loud tourists. The hotel staff were extremely friendly and spoke and understood English.
Hotel lobby was very clean and plenty of safety measure installed and maintained with COVID 19. The rooms were on the small side but for a couple it is perfect if you just want to have a relaxing holiday on the beach. Rooms were very clean on arrival and bathroom was very modern as well. There is a small pool and jucuzzi outside which was also again very very clean clearly maintained to a high standard. We only had breakfast at the hotel but again, staff, food and cleanliness were extremely high and the views overlooking the sea are gorgeous.
I would highly recommend this hotel for a couple or a small group of friends on a relaxing beach holiday. We couldn’t fault the hotel at all and the value for money is second to none. The old town where all the bars and restaurants are is roughly a 50 minute walk However a taxi is €7
I am not one for visiting the same place twice but if I return to chania one day, I wouldn’t hesitate staying here again.
Thank you for a amazing holiday

Despite being located outside of the city, the hotel is a good choice to visit the island. It is located in a quiet area and you avoid the traffic of the city. There is a parking where you can easily find spaces for your car. Rooms are very simple but beds are very comfortable. There is a seaview and a big balcony to enjoy the evening. The breakfast features both sweet and salty items. Mostly fresh products. Staff was really helpful to organise my activities during the day. I enjoyed the online check-in/check-out. Also, I really recommend you to have dinner at the restaurant of the hotel. It was delicious cuisine.

The location was not exactly the best and unless you rent a car it's very far away from everything else. We had a car so this was not the issue. Cleanliness ok though we didn't appreciate that our towels were only changed every 2 days and our beach towels remained the same for the whole week. The pool is very close to the restaurant tables so privacy is a bit of an issue. A neighbour once stared at me for a long time while I was using the jacuzzi. It felt intrusive and I suggest the hotel creates a better blocking fence. As soon as you enter the hotel, most times reception is unattended. In fact when we arrived we waited for 15 minutes and then decided to call the hotel number. The "gym" is in the foyer of the hotel. We were told our room was given to someone else so we could make do with another room for the first night. We didn't feel like changing rooms whilst on holiday especially because we had a trip in mind for the next day. We asked for a compensation for this trouble. The lady was very nice but when the manager came he had quite an aggressive tone that ended with "you stay in that room all week" and he never changed our room even though we waited for him the next day. The guy at the reception had told us that the cleaner would move all our stuff but we weren't happy with that. We wanted to be able to move our stuff. Basically all this stupid scene made us waste the first 4 hours of our second day. We then found a bottle of Cretan wine in our room as a compensation. For the amount of money we paid for the other specific room, this was an offense. I bought this trip as a birthday gift for my boyfriend and although we still had fun outside the hotel, I would not suggest this place to anyone ever. Whilst we were there, we got to see other locations for future trips and we certainly have a better choice now.

Hello and thank you for your comments. Alexis hotel is rated a top place to stay in Chania among other things for its convenient location, near many shops, restaurants and market places. Chania Town and the old harbour are only 20 minutes on foot. The top rated beaches of Chrissi Akti, Agioi apostoli are also within walking distance. The highway jucture nearby is perfect for exploring west crete for day excursions. If you prefer to have your towels changed more often, just ask reception desk or one of our cleaning staff they would be more than happy to accomodate your request. The pool, jacuzzi has been designed for privacy as well for a clear and unobtrusive view of the sea. Reception hours are from 8.30 am to midnight. While you had arrive later at night, your room was not given away to someone else, on the contrary, we had suggested a free room upgrade. The Cretan wine was a small gift for your husband for his birthday! I urge you to try our famous breakfast buffet, that everyone absolutely loves, with many sweet and savory options! Our in house restaurant is rated a top place to eat out in Chania Town, and has many creative Cretan dishes I am sure you would love.

Stayed here with my husband for 1 week July 18th-25th. Lovely clean hotel. Good size room, modern bathroom. Room, fabulous sea view beautiful sunset. Swimming pool lovely to plunge into after a very hot day out, very clean area around pool. Location quiet, very accessible for bus into Chania or surrounding beaches, though you can walk to nearest beach. Breakfast choice, served by a very friendly and charming woman. This is a family hotel, all staff incredibly friendly helpful and polite. We will definitely return again, highly recommend this small friendly hotel
The restaurant owned by the hotel serves delicious food, very high quality , great service, stunning sunset.

The hotel location was 25 minute walk into Chania, a local bus close to the hotel was regular and good value.
The hotel was small friendly hotel, very clean with Wi-Fi, although intermittent.
The restaurant in the hotel was used by non hotel users too and have good quality food served beautifully and similar prices to Uk.
There is no shuttle bus as advertised on booking. Com but the local bus is close by and good. A steep hill to get to this hotel, so if mobility issues this would not be a good choice of hotel.
No mini gym as advertised, 4 exercise machines standing in the reception, no room to exercise in . This may not be an issue but was not as advertised.
Swimming pool was lovely, very small but great to cool off with at the end of the day. Sun loungers provided.
Chania is a busy local town with an interesting harbour, do take a boat trip out as this was excellent experience , can be booked directly at the harbour.
Local bus trips to Elfonisi beach through the mountains was quite an adventure, and Palachora was another great local bus trip out to the south of the island. A sandy and pebble beach greet you here.
The golden beach 20 minutes from Alexis hotel was brilliant … safe sandy beach with life guard on duty.
A good place to come for a quiet break… if you want restaurants and night life next door to the hotel, this would not suit you . A couples, older friends. Largely made up the demographic when I stayed .

Hotel is located a bit outside Chania, but offers free parking.
The room was a bit basic, but comfortable. I got a free upgrade to a room with a sea view.
The bed was comfortable and resting.
Reception staff was polite and helpful, they even facilitated in a breakfast to go for the morning that I left very early.
The restaurant (Theodosi) in the ground floor is excellent, breakfast is served there and you can also have lunch or dinner.
Breakfast was amazing.
No soap in the bathroom (only shampoo)
Rooms above the restaurant can be pretty noisy during midnight (when the restaurant closes).

This was our fourth stay at the Alexis. Theo greeted us like old friends and introduced us to Frood on reception who we had not met before. It speaks volumes about the place when we saw several members of staff including cleaners and restaurant have been there since we first visited 6 or 7 years ago. The rooms have recently been upgraded with new modern bathrooms. We booked a front sea view room with balcony which was well worth the extra cost. The hotel is clean, bright and airy and the staff are all so friendly, smiling and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble. This stay, as the others, was care free and relaxing. We were on half-board tarif and throughly enjoyed the food. We have reviewed the restaurant separately. The main town and Chania old port are a 25 minute stroll away and there are several sandy beaches within walking distance, including golden beach where the swimming and snorkelling are best. If you want to stay within reach of the main town bars, shops and restaurants, but away from the hustle and bustle, then this is the place for you. You may also find, like us, that you prefer to save yourself a walk in the evening and dine at the hotels own restaurant. After all, it is the best around, so make sure you book.

This is a small friendly hotel located outside Chania on high ground with great views and a great restaurant. Access to the hotel is either a very steep hill or a walk across some rough wasteland. There is a small but well kept dipping pool with a few loungers ( nice for a cooling dip rather than set up for the day) Would have used the basic gym but it was located in the main reception open to view to anyone coming in or going out of the hotel - personally I think this space could be better utilised as never saw anyone use it over 10 days….
Location wise the hotel is a good 45 mins walk into the centre of town either along a very busy main road or by going down to the nearest beach (10 mins) across the wasteland and following the coast line. The nearest bars/ restaurants are on this route about 20 mins away. The rooms are small but adequate - great large bed, modern bathroom, good air con. Sat tv, fridge, hairdryer- the furniture however was tired and there wasn’t enough storage space for clothes, no kettle so took our own (borrowed cups and glasses from the restaurant attached to the hotel). Doors on the corridors were very noisy even when being careful! And there was no lift. The very good restaurant attached is open to the public and if you are half board you use the restaurant which has great modern interpretations of Greek food.
The breakfast was in the restaurant and had lots of choice though the hot food was limited. Nearly all the staff in the hotel are lovely and it was a pleasure to engage with them. Apart from a grumpy waiter in the restaurant in the evenings who came across a bit off.
Overall we enjoyed our stay here and would recommend it. Only negative for us was the access and location.

Based on the hotel being a 2* couldn't fault a thing. It exceeded expectations in all areas, the rooms had adequate storage and space, the bathroom was top class fantastic shower, extremely soft towels and the best hairdryer in a hotel I've stayed in. Also the cleanliness of the hotel throughout was exceptional the lady who serviced our room was happy and chatty. Breakfast was good lots of choice again staff there we friendly and happy, freshly made pancakes and waffles were gorgeous. Had an night flight but the last day wasn't lost we were able to leave our case at reception, kept the pool towels and room towels until we left, we walked into town enjoyed the pool and went for a meal and then freshened up in the shower room. Great location for us out of town so traffic quiet and enjoyed the walks into the old town and harbour. Taxis were reasonably priced and bus connections good but we preferred to walk.

Certainly! While the hotel is not far from the main areas of Chania, considering the summer weather, you might find hiring transport more comfortable, especially if you plan to visit the beach or explore the town frequently. Walking is manageable, but having transport would offer convenience and flexibility. If you enjoy walking, you can always stroll around the local surroundings. Feel free to choose based on your preferences, and I'm here to assist with any further information you may need!
Alexis is rated 2 stars, but provides superior facilities and services. If you would like further information please contact us.
The pool is outside with a jacuzzi and is open till 8 pm, the bar is inside and is open when the restaurant is opening in the afternoon. I don't remember of the opening time. There is a fridge loaded with soft drinks, beers/wine and water in the reception area.
Yes it was. However it was a little noisy and blew down onto our heads.
There was omlette one day. Such a variety at the breakfast buffet
