Omonia Square is as plain in appearance as Syntagma is grand. Surrounded largely by functional blocks from the 1950s and 60s and no longer boasting its underground stalls, the square is now mostly frequented by immigrants and bargain shoppers. The most rewarding area to explore is to the south. Set off down Athinas Street, with the Acropolis gradually coming into focus in the distance, and you will get a sense of old commercial Athens, especially at the picturesque meat, fish and vegetable markets some way beyond the City Hall. The blocks to the west of Athinas are home to many Chinese and South Asian traders, adding a multicultural atmosphere to what was until the late 1990s a very homogenous society.

We walked around at all hours of the night in various states of sobriety and never felt concerned. Stick to Psyrri and Monstraki square and you will be fine.

What are the options to go from airport to the hotel? mid day? which one is the best? bus versus metro?
Metro to omonia station then 200 meter walking distance But take care as I lost my money me and my wife and all my credit cards on arrival from airport as they know that you just arrived and you have all your money with you . I lost 1000 € and 6 credit cards . They were about 20 persons who entered metro 1 station before syntagma station and made the metro crowded. The coast for metro for 2 persons was 18 € and the safest way is to take a taxi from airport which coast about 40 € Best of luck
