The Brown Lighthouse Athens hotel garners mixed reviews for its unique, dark decor which some guests find stylish while others consider it overly somber and restrictive. While the rooms are noted for their cleanliness and occasional upgrades, opinions vary on their size and aesthetic appeal. Guests commend the service quality, highlighting the staff's friendliness and attentiveness.
Its central location is popular for its accessibility to local attractions, despite some safety concerns. The hotel's amenities, like the rooftop with Acropolis views, are well-received, though the pool's availability can be limited.

Detailed Reviews
There are lots of positives about this hotel but unfortunately too many things need improving for me to rate it any higher than 3 stars. Security staff were very friendly and welcoming (better than the reception staff). Nice welcome drinks on arrival but no clean glasses just lots of dirty glasses! After checking in there are only 2 lifts for quite a large hotel so it was quicker to use the stairs (when I wasn’t carrying luggage) the corridors are very dark and there are no signs to point you in the correct direction of rooms, restaurant etc. My bedroom looked cool, the double bed is diagonal and the space behind the bed had a lovely green velvet chair, mini fridge and a rail with 4 hangers. Unfortunately, the rail was not high enough to hang my longer outfits on and with only 4 hangers this was not enough and I was a solo traveller only staying for 3 nights. With the bed layout, it left very limited space to get to the balcony. The layout just didn’t work. The bathroom had a lovely waterfall shower but when I came out I discovered that the shower had leaked into the bedroom and left a large puddle in the bedroom, wetting my shoes and suitcase that were on the floor in the space behind the bed. I told reception and they sent housekeeping up straight away to clean it, but it was inconvenient. I knew this wouldn’t solve the problem and after every shower I had, the same problem occurred. Not good if there were 2 of you staying in this room. Another strange thing was housekeeping knocked on my door every evening at about 9pm to check if everything was ok, very unnecessary. This was before I had mentioned the shower to them, so I don’t think it was related to this. There was only 1 bin (next to the toilet) which was not enough especially as that bin needs to be used for used tissue paper. Another one in the bedroom would have been helpful. Inside the mini fridge were 2 bottles of water and these got replenished when empty, a nice touch.
Breakfast was brilliant, a huge range of food and drink and very tasty. A few more signs to say what things are would be helpful. The hotel is in a great location, right next to a metro station and on the main route of the tourist buses. There is a large fountain which my room looked out towards but it was really noisy. Even with the balcony door fully closed I did find it noisy and did struggle to sleep. This hotel could be really good but I think a few things need to be ironed out first.

+1
Recently stayed at the lighthouse in athens for 7 nights.
It was a very mixed experience.
Pros
Very classy and boutique style hotel
Excellent breakfasts
The waiting staff in the dining area were amazing, friendly and very helpful
The room was up to date, was clean and kept very clean
Two bottles of water were left in the fridge every day and complementary Prosecco on arrival
The also provided in the room a hairdryer, dressing gowns, slippers, towels and toiletries
Separate towels provided for the pool area
The bathroom and shower was great and well equipped and the shower area roomier than other aspects of the room
Once on the roof terrace, there was a fabulous view of the city
Cons
The room is small, we had a classic room with balcony which overlooked a derelict building and completely hide any view of athens from any floor.
The room was dark.
Storage is POOR.
There is no floor space to open and leave open any cases without moving some of the room furniture onto the balcony.
The hanging space is over a desk area so by using this, you end up loosing this desk/ table area.
This makes it difficult to use the mirror.
When asked to changed room, we were met with a terse rebuttal.
The check in was poorly managed and understaffed generally.
The reception staff were not as accommodating and friendly generally as the waiting staff.
There was no guide or instructions in the room on any facilities, times of breakfast, how to call reception (you have to walk to reception and if they are checking in anyone, you have no chance of any immediate attention), work of the tv.
The door key cards would expire and have to be reset (this happened twice in 5 days).
Other observations
The lifts had weird tv screens to their ceiling which were meant to play some colourful groovey music and visuals, but these would freeze and by the time you got to floor 10 they would work!
It would have been really helpful if the hotel has provided guides on the transport networks, things to do, maps and other recommendations.
There were some previous reviews about the area being a little dubious, however we had no concerns.
It was just a 5 minute walk to the buzzing 5/ 10 minute to the buzzing flea market area (which is filled with eating and drinking choices) and en route to the acropolis.
So would we stay there again, most definitely yes but would consider a different visual aspect and take less luggage.
It was a very mixed experience.

We stayed at the Lighthouse hotel by Athens and the experience we had was amazing.
The hotel was newly opened with stunning designs inside and out. The room was immaculate, clean, tidy and extremely hygienic. There was constant supplies of hand sanitiser and masks and The staff are so lovely and so helpful. The receptionist who we spoke to were so catering and helpful, Anne-Marie, Alexandros and George were extremely kind and helped us with day to day activities. They were ensured we knew our way round and made sure we had access to the taxi services. There was an incident with my son and the staff were so helpful and extremely quick.

The hotel was lovely, clean and well presented. The rooms weren't huge, but sensibly laid out, with comfortable beds, and a nice view of the fountain outside in the street. The view from the roof bar is beautiful. There's a shallow two tiered pool, a bar, hot tub and ample seating both shaded and open. So we were very much looking forward to our short stay at the hotel....
On arrival we found one of our reserved rooms had been downgraded. This was mildly frustrating, but not the end of the world. However, the delay at reception meant that the food on the roof had stopped serving 9 minutes before we cleared check in. We accepted this as just bad luck, and went elsewhere. That was our first night. Our second night was Saturday, we decided to eat on the roof and enjoy the view (one of the reasons we booked this particular hotel)
Just before 6pm, I went to order food from the bar on the roof, only to be told that the roof was closing in ten minutes to host a private event. The roof had been advertised and sold to us on the premise that the roof bar was open until 11pm. With only two nights at the hotel, both of the evenings we were denied the option to enjoy eating on the roof bar/terrace.
The manager on duty claimed to have sent an email out two days before, informing everyone of the closure. However, we had been sailing, and had not had full data coverage, we had not received the message.
Our booking had been confirmed for months, I don't think two days notice is at all acceptable, especially as the staff could see the email hadn't been read or opened. Why weren't we informed during check in? ....or at any point from booking to check-in?
I personally feel that the guests were placed secondary to whatever corporate event threw enough cash the hotel's way.
We were left trying to find a last minute venue to eat on a Saturday night.
I will not use this hotel again, and I would caution any would be guests to be prepared to be treated in the same manner. Athens has lots of beautiful hotels, spend your money wisely and relax elsewhere.

I was shocked with the reception lady which " with the black/ blue hair " so rude and very bad attitude and beside the hotel manager that she dose not want to go out to talk with the customer .. it was sad that the receptionist was so angry that she give me very bad rooms with a balcony facing old building not used and so dirty .. the hotel it self so dark and I feel not comfortable that the toilets are dark and you can not see clearly if it was cleaned enough .. the breakfast is so expensive, 18€ even for the child under 10 years so for a family of 5 it will cost 92€ and the average salary in Greece is 600-1000€ this is over pricy ... the upper rood is kind of a joke with 30cm depth what they call it swimming pool .. try it by your self and you will know .. I was very disappointed from the hotel specially from the management of the hotel .. which I advice that the management should be changed in this hotel by the Brown Group ..

Dear Ibrahim, Greetings from Lighthouse Athens, we are really sad that after what we did for you, you were still unhappy with the hotel. In general our team gets the greatest comments in the hotel as you can see from other reviews on the internet so i feel the need to defend them as i am well aware of your stay and what happened. There are some facts that are not described very accurate: -You have originally booked a triple room and a cozy room which is our lowest category and its an inner room without a balcony, instead of that we gave you a classic room(free upgrade) with a balcony, back view. We are really sorry that our gesture of goodwill to give you a free upgrade didnt meet your expectations. -You arrived at 12:00pm and even though that the official check in is at 15:00 you were insisting in a non so polite way to get your rooms at that specific time and we tried our best to give it to you as soon as possible. -You insisted during the night to get one more extra bed and we explained to you that the rooms cant get more beds but you found the night vallet and you took the extra bed something that created for us a big problem in the morning as it is something that iti is not allowed. Our breakfast costs 18eur which is a reasonable price comparing to other hotels in Athens at the same category, also it is a 5 star standards breakfast and we get many excellent reviews we are really sorry that it felt expensive to you. Rooftop pools in general tend to be shallower than the average pool. Our rooftop pool and hottub with a panoramic view of Athens and the Acropolis, is 70cm depth and its a water element that its a great asset for a city hotel again we are really sorry that we didnt meet your expectations. As i see that you are very disappointed you can contact me persnally to discuss the matter further, i have tried to reach you since your departure for the extra beds and the linen so please feel free to contact me and also solve this misunderstanding. Kind regards, Niovi Tsogia General Manager

I read some terrible reviews for this hotel right before we left for our trip and was very concerned. I truly had nothing to worry about. Every member of the staff was friendly and helpful. Even giving advice on places to eat late and early. I saw some reviews that made me nervous about the area, but in our experience we felt very safe. When we went out front in the mornings to smoke security stood outside with us and the one time someone came up trying to ask us for something security made them leave. The decor is not really my style, but aside from that the beds were comfortable. The room was clean. The cleaning staff even made my moms nightshirt that she’d left on the bed into the shape of a butterfly. It was her birthday (which they didn’t know) and it really made her happy. The view from the roof is breathtaking. Did I mention how wonderful the staff was? We did learn that if you put the floor towel just on the outside of the glass for the shower it stops the water from going everywhere. I would definitely stay here again. It’s very close to the train station and bus stop.

Firstly note this hotel name has changed to Skylark, so we had a problem locating it but eventually we asked for directions from a doorman and he said we were there. The hotel smells gorgeous, and reception was efficient. They upgraded our room to a balcony room, but personally, if I had paid for this room, I would have been disappointed, as the balcony overlooked a concrete wall. The room was clean, with complimentary water and one small bottle of prosecco in the minibar. Fresh towels every day. Breakfast was plentiful. My only comment was that the food under the heat lamps was always cold. They either need to get better heating plates or provide a microwave to eat the food up. There was a chef making omelette and pancakes, which were really good. The hotel location was central and within a 20-minute walk from the Acropolis and other attractions. Would recommend the hop on hop off bus that stops outside the hotel. We travelled by train from the airport at a cost of 8 euros each as opposed to 75+ euros in a taxi. The journey was straightforward with only one change, and the metro was right outside the hotel. I would definitely recommend this hotel for cleanliness and location.

Our choice has fallen on this hotel only because it's new look and being totally renewed recently . Reading all the reviews you get all you need to know about this great place . Excellent breakfast with great variety and good quality . The rooms are not big but good for short stay and you should upgrade for a longer stay so you can get a real pleasant stay . Rooftop with nice view and bar if you tired and don't feel going out in the evening. The service is very good too and almost all the staff at the reception are very nice and willing to help .
Regarding the position and safety that seams to be a main issue and gets a low quotation in the reviews : we found the place and location great during all day and close to many attractions having all you need very near . At night one should pay a little more attention on the side streets but in 5 night going out no frightening events happened .

We had an amazing stay here. We were greeted on arrival by the friendly staff and a glass of Prosecco. The hotel is really well decorated and stylish. The rooms aren’t big but more than enough room and everything you would need for a short stay, including dressing gowns, toiletries and bottles of water everyday. Recommend getting an urban room with a view of the square.
The rooftop bar and pool is stunning with amazing views over the city.
We were a bit apprehensive before arriving after reading reviews regarding the location but don’t let this put you off. Yes, it isn’t the nicest area of Athens but we never felt unsafe. Just don’t turn left when you leave the hotel, right is towards all the main attractions and Plaka district anyway. The proximity to all the main sights is great, everything was walking distance and we didn’t use the metro.
Recommend going up Lycabettus hill which you can see from the hotel, a lovely walk and great views with a little church on top.
The staff went above and beyond for us during our stay and we would definitely return. Thank you!

We visited again to this hotel as we had such a great stay last Summer that we wanted to experience it again, which met all our needs and expectations making our stay very happy.
Check in was quick and swift, we were in our room within minutes which was given to us early as well. This time we did not have a view of Omonia Square but it did feel like the room was slightly bigger than last time. We love the comfortableness of the heavenly bed, the extravagant furnishing and fittings, free bottle of mini prosecco and the decadent bathroom. The hotel has predominately dark corridors and the rooms are dark too…..you should be well advised that this is the case and the hotel makes no apology for it nor should it. Please book elsewhere if you are looking for magnolia coloured walls and American sized rooms…..this is central Athens and space is at a premium! Amazing monsoon shower with beautiful amenities.
We love the rooftop and Maggie and Vangelis do a sterling job of making sure you are well looked after. Unfortunately when we were there there was a group of young Israelis for 2 days absolutely decimating the entire pool area. You couldn’t get in the pool if you wanted to as they were inebriated in the pool behind belief, endless pints of beer being summoned to them with snapping of fingers and shouting at the poor staff. Never have I seen such obnoxious behaviour. Towards the end of the day they were so drunk that they started to fall asleep on the many loungers they bagged luckily, so we could have a chance to get in the pool to cool off. Outside of this, the service was great and the staff were trying to keep up with the busy demand. More sun loungers are needed as they get snapped up quite quickly!
Breakfast is extravagant and of a high quality. Buffet style but the choice was huge and very tasty dishes served with a strong Mediterranean/Greek theme. Of course complimentary prosecco and blo*dy Mary’s as standard,
If you’re not used to busy city hotels and surrounding areas, I would suggest looking elsewhere as Omonia is now being gentrified but if you are sensitive to a vibrant area this may not be for you just yet.
