The only problem with 1872 is finding it. But once you are there life is good. Luhana, Christina and Nidia are charming and efficient hostesses. The location is great. The rooms are comfortable and well appointed. Breakfast is outstanding. Always some snacks lying about for when you return from touring Porto. Only eight rooms. Just off the beaten path so not busy and noisy outside. Right on the Duoro River.
We stayed at this wonderful boutique hotel for 3 nights, when we first arrived in Portugal. What a great find for us. We had a river view room on the second floor. It had a wonderful view of the river and the town and ferris wheel on the other side. It was magical, especially in the evening. The bed was one of the most comfortable I have slept in. And being able to leave the balcony doors open at night was a treat. The weather was warmer than normal and this made sleeping very enjoyable. Just one of the great things about this hotel is that it is one the quiet end of the boardwalk along the river. We did not get the crowd noise our friends did at their hotel futher towards the big square. As much as the great accommodations, the staff is a highlight of this hotel. They are the most friendly and responsive individuals we have ever experienced. We felt like family by the time we left and knew we were going to miss our new friends. They are a big reason as to what makes this hotel so special. The breakfasts were wonderful. All varieties of bread, rolls, sweets, eggs, meats, coffee, tea and juice were laid out. It was quite a spread and a great way to start your day. Best part is, you don't have to get up at the crack of dawn to partake of this great breakfast. It goes to late morning and allows you to recover from your jet lag without missing this delightful meal. We loved Porto, but what made it special was this hotel and their staff. Thank you for a wonderful introduction to the many delights of Portugal and its people.…
1872 River House Porto, Portugal A delightful boutique hotel on the banks of the Douro River and centrally located. Having travelled extensively over the years, we were surprised and delighted by how professional and yet friendly the staff and atmosphere was. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the River House, and would highly recommend it, with its amenities, location, professional staff and comfortable rooms and most importantly, the great all day breakfasts
We very much enjoyed this B&B. We stayed in room 2 which had a river view and three windows. We were first directed to Room 8, but it only had one window and the shower was in the bedroom. I wouldn't stay in that room. The breakfast was included and it was excellent. The staff were friendly and helpful.
We had a lovely 3 night stay at this property. It's in a terrific location, right on the Duoro River. Half the rooms and the breakfast room have some of the best views of the river. Breakfast was fantastic each morning, and they have snacks, beer, water and sodas available at all times. We had a little bit of a challenge finding the door to this place initially, and we also had to direct another guest to the front door too who was lost, but once we found it, the staff was incredibly gracious and I would highly recommend this property to anyone traveling to Porto who is seeking a smaller property.
"For an amazing river view, choose Room 4 or 6. Room 8 has a shower and basin in the main part of the room."Read full review
