Lovely small family owned winery with exquisite views of vineyards. Rustic rooms, super friendly, great chef and vintage ports. Very informative wine tour loved by all. Enjoy! Dress warm and find the fireplace. So cozy! Views!
Quinta de Marrocos not only has outstanding dinners, wine tastings, and tours, but it is also a fun and unique accommodation. The rustic former monastery is now family run and still producing award winning port wines. We booked in for two nights, and I would highly recommend staying over to experience what it must be like to live in the Douro Valley. It is an amazing place. Susana greeted us and checked us in while providing a lovely welcome drink on their beautiful terrace overlooking the river. She was so personable and very helpful in getting us settled in. Everyone there goes out of their way to make you feel at home. Later in the evening, Rachel met us and escorted us on a fascinating and informative visit through the vineyard and the production rooms. Then we were treated to a wonderful wine tasting, and a delicious authentic Portuguese dinner after that. I would definitely recommend booking this tour, wine tasting and dinner on your first night at the Quinta. It is a great value and well worth doing. Another experience not to be missed is their full day tour which we did the next day right after their lovely complimentary breakfast. Rachel escorted us again and she is expert at everything she does. The trip starts with a ride to Pinhao and a wonderful 2 hour boat trip on the Douro River then a visit to the train station to see a gorgeous collection of tiles depicting port wine production. A delicious and leisurely typical Portuguese lunch is next on the schedule and finally a visit to Casal de Loivos where we learned how olive oil is produced. Here we also enjoyed a wonderful olive oil tasting, honey tasting and port wine tasting (or grape juice if you’ve had your fill of wines). Our stay at Quinta de Marrocos was the most perfect Douro Valley experience and I would highly recommend it. …
I visited Quinta de Marrocos during a wine tour in the Douro Valley region! Quinta de Marrocos is a small winery and hotel! The tour consisted of us seeing how the grapes are crushed (still by some people) although they have the technology..the traditional ways are followed by Quinta de Marrocos! We I visited it was harvest season so there were humans crushing grapes in 4 hour shifts...what?!? After we saw how the grapes were crushed and prepared to be fermented...we saw the wine barrels and of course ...were led to the deck with a beautiful scenic view to taste the port wines and other offerings! The 10 year Tawny was a favorite of mine! This tour was pretty good and I enjoyed the time spent here at Quinta de Marrocos!
Exceptional wine tasting Very informative Superb ports Wonderful setting Just the way to spend an hour Our guide explained to perfection enhancing my experience and understanding of port production 🥂🥂🥂🥂
We stayed for one night. The unit we stayed in was nice with 2 rooms and a living room. The tour in the vineyard+ dinner was nice but somewhat expensive- 40 € per person. The staff was very hospitable especially Louis and Rachel. The scenery is beautiful. Things to improve- First, there was a group tour that day so we didn't even see the owner. Second- the dogs barked a lot during the night which was problematic for us. Pants that were left out to dry on the balcony's chair next to the room were GONE in the morning. The answer we got was "maybe the dogs took it"??!! and that was all, Really?? Nothing more was said or done. We were really amazed but left it at that since we didn't want to spoil our vacation. Now I think about the fact that we bought 2 port wines the next morning for 14€, it could have been a nice way to compensate for the lost pants but it wasn't even offered. Quite disappinting. Third, we believe the rooms could be cleaner especially under the bed. Picking something that fell discovered a mountain of dust under it. Overall the place is adequate and suitable for one night's stay.…
"Check with the hotel to see if pets are welcome. The quinta is a working farm and has dogs."Read full review
