The Allegro Madeira is spotless and is in a wonderful location with most rooms overlooking the sea. The breakfasts are exceptional and you’re spoilt for choice. The rooms are quite minimalistic and if I have one gripe, it’s that there isn’t much drawer space. The local bus stops metres away to take you into the centre of Funchal, which is just over a mile away, but you can take a lovely easy stroll as well, through one of the many beautiful parks. There are numerous shops and fantastic restaurants within a minute’s walks. A big advantage is that the airport bus drops you off at the top of the road and only costs €8 return or €5 one way.

Arrived by minibus from airport after an ontime Jet2 flight from Edinburgh, only three stops en-route. Having e-mailed the hotel and asked for a high floor room with the sea view i was given room 505 with an unrestricted full view of the sea. The room was spotlessly clean with a bathroom containing a walk in shower with a range of toiletries and a dressing gown to use during your stay. The oft reported lack of storage space is to be addressed shortly but did not bother me..It would appear that most of the residents were on a bed and breakfast arrangement as the dining room was busy at breakfast as there were'nt many people for dinner at night, resorting to a choice of three main course options resulting in them being brought to your table piping hot. Pool area was well maintained with plenty of, seemed like brand new sun loungers. The best part of this hotel is the people who worked there, from the chamber maids, dining room staff and the receptionists they could not do enough for you.
Thank you for a wonderful holiday.
p.s.Learned that this hotel was built in 1974, taken back to the concrete 3 years ago when every part of it was renewed. No wonder it seems like a new build

This is one of the best hotels we have ever stayed at for a holiday. It is spotlessly clean, totally safe with very thorough anti-Covid cleaning and the food is excellent. There is an abundance of locally caught fish and sea food with a very good variety of fresh vegetables and fresh fruit. Breakfast is good with freshly made omlettes and pancakes on the grill and bucks fizz to finish off with. Lovely salads and a change of options every night both ready prepared and grilled while you wait. The rooms are also very good. Free aircon and free safe with a balcony overlooking the sea. We came up from breakfast and saw a large whale jumping a few hundred yards out to sea.
It was a bit wndy for the roof top bar but we went about a hundred yards up the road to a bar with live music every. night. The saxophonist was so good that you would have paid money to hear him in concert and the drinks were a reasonable price.
The hotel staff could not have done more to make the holiday enjoyable and were always on hand to help. The pool is spotlessly clean with good sunbeds although the music from the loud speakers can be a bit tedious if you sit near the speakers.
Cannot recommend this hotel highly enough and would certainly go back especially for the locally caught fish and the excellent way they are prepared.

Stayed here for three nights, at the end of February, upon arrival until we left, every member of staff , were welcoming and friendly. Special mention for Laura, on reception, made checking-in smooth and sorted out a query we had quickly and efficiently plus Lino, on the rooftop bar, always smiling.
We had a junior suite, a reasonable sized room, very comfortable bed,sofa,tv,safe,fridge/minibar and kettle for tea and coffee.Whilst there wasn't a actual wardrobe, there was a space with plenty of hangers to use.The bathroom had a shower, plenty of hot water plus robe, slippers and a selection of toiletries.
Breakfast was served,in the bottom floor restaurant, there also is a outside area to use. The selection of food, was plentiful and varied, enough to satisfy everyone's taste and with the added bonus of a chef, in the room, who would cook omelettes, etc freshly for you. There was also a good range of juices, tea, coffee and even prosecco,if you fancied it.
The pool area was clean and tidy, it was overlooked by the small gym/spa area, fitted with what looked like modern equipment.
We also thought the location was excellent, plenty of nearby restaurants, and about a 25 minute, into the centre of Funchal.
First class stay, first choice, on my next visit.

It seems the Allegro has had a name change and bit of a makeover recently. It felt fresh, clean and comfortable. The room was fairly basic, and felt like a beach holiday hotel, but that was fine for me. It’s in a good location in the Lido area of Funchal, on the doorstep of a good choice of bars and restaurants. The rooftop bar was a little chilly at night, but the views were great, and I can imagine it would be perfect on a warm summer’s evening.

Like most of Madeira, the hotel was pretty quiet whilst I was there (I was the only person at the pool two days a running even though the weather was good) but the staff were excellent - friendly and focused.

The breakfast buffet was very good - the disposable gloves system made it feel almost normal in these pandemic times!

Covid measures meant the gym had to be reserved in advance, but this was never a problem, and it was actually really nice having it to myself each morning!

Stayed here in April 2022 for 7 nights. Have stayed at the Eden Mar before so knew the location of this hotel was great before we arrived. Located by the bus stop for the municipal bus and the Hop on Hop off tourist buses and lots of bars and restaurants. check in was fast & easy, we had a sea view room on the 5th floor overlooking the pool. Rooms are basic and very clean. Bed was extremely comfortable and bed linen was clean and good quality, the pillows we had were soft and lumpy but there is a pillow menu and my husband ordered some orthopaedic pillows. The only thing that was missing was pillow protectors, I like to see these on hotel pillows, it is a must for me. The pillow cases were not good either, they are tubes and both ends are open so the ends of the pillows hang out. The bathroom was nice and clean, the toilet flushed well, the walk-in shower was brilliant with a good flow and lots of hot water. All toiletries are provided, large bottles of shampoo and conditioner in the shower, a large liquid hand soap, a shaving kit and tooth brushes, so really don’t need to take these with you for a short break. Breakfast was good, choice was reasonable, would have liked some cereals, cornflakes or rice krispies the selection looked uninviting. Would have like some jam and some fresh juices. The first two days there was a sort of orange juice but after that there was some kind of watery pineapple juice, which I didn’t touch.
It was nice to have some peace and quiet by the pool and at breakfast without babies and kids running around. However the noise was a little disturbed by dog barking, this particular dog lives in one of the houses in front of the pool wall and the barking did get on our nerves a little. Also the room doors are on a really strong closing mechanism and we seemed to be the only ones who closed the door quietly, we were woken nearly every morning and disturbed at night by doors constantly slamming along the corridor, it was really loud and annoying.
There is a lovely Turkish steam room and sauna, this is free and you can book this for an hour slot, we did this 3 times, which was a nice bonus.
The staff & management were very friendly and attentive. Overall we had a very enjoyable stay - would more than likely stay here again.

We spent the first night in a standard double and the first thing next morning, we upgraded to a junior suite for 20 euros a night extra. You could not swing a cat in the standard double room ( not that I make a habit of swinging cats around )
We went down for breakfast on the first morning and it was awful. Everything was cold, even the hot drinks were cold. We tried again the next morning with the same result and gave up after that and went out to street cafe's after that.
The staff were friendly and the hotel was clean.

Two week stay and once you get your storage organised rooms are perfectly fine for what you need them for. Thanks to reviews on trip advisor we had a heesds up so took fabric storage bags. Fresh towels every day, tea and coffee topped up every day. Good shower but no bath. Buffet breakfast from 7 30 to 10 30 and can be busy at times. Separate nespresso coffee machine for you coffee lovers makes good coffee I am told. Outside area if you want to sit outside at breakfast, enough room for us to sit out every day. We did not use the pool but it was used every day by guests without it being crowded and it was quiet and peaceful with plenty of room for sun lounging. All the staff were really friendly and efficient. Management chatted to guests regularly and helped with clearing tables etc. when it was busy. Receptionists all good but Susana was particularly helpful when we needed printing of documents for our return journey. All in all a pleasant stay without any frills. Adults only so no children makes a difference to the atmosphere too.

We visited in November 2020, covid and off season combined made it very quiet, but also very safe.

The building is old but has clearly been renovated in a modern minimalist approach. Everything worked well. The sea views are very pleasant and each day we would sit out on the balcony to watch the sunset.

Breakfast was excellent. Plenty of variety, lots of space (so it was safe) and a pleasant setting.

The location is perfect for the Lido. You can easily walk into Funchal downtown. In one direction you walk for maybe 10 minutes and you are at Reid’s, walk 15 minutes in the other direction and you are at a shopping centre. In between are all sorts of restaurants from Mozambique to Madeira and everything in between.

The rooftop bar of the hotel has a spectacular vista. The entire hotel is spotlessly clean.

The highlight would be the staff. Front desk, cleaners, breakfast room and bar staff are all super friendly and helpful.

Your stay will be a pleasure.

We took a risk, and booked a last minute week, at end October, to get some relief from Covid, and the weather here. Well could not have turned out better, Covid test at Airport was painless and very quick, we had a reply via text telling us we were negative within 8 hours! The Allegro was perfect for us, as a couple, the room with the sea view was fantastic, floor 8. The cleanliness of the hotel was next to none, fresh towels every day, you could eat from the floor, it was so clean....everywhere. Obviously the hotel was very quiet, and so social distancing was not a problem at all...few in dining room, and also around the pool, there were hand sanitisers everywhere, we felt VERY at ease. Breakfast was amazing, the evening meal was more limited than in normal times, but was very adequate, choice wise.
The staff were lovely, from reception, who were extremely helpful with any questions we had; to the dining room, where Dilia, Carolina and Marco could not be more friendly and helpful. We will be back as soon as we are allowed.
The location is brilliant, bus stops right outside, and 5 minute walk to the Lido.
Thank you Allegro.
