Detailed Reviews
We stayed for two weeks bed and breakfast over Xmas and New Year. The room was ok sized, clean and well serviced. Compact sink, hob and fridge was a good addition in the room and was supplied with plates, glasses and cutlery. Also the tv was good with a decent choice of channels. There is a roof fan for cooling which is quiet and ample. No air conditioning.
The hotel is at the top of quite a steep entry hill but a buggy is provided from lower sister hotel if required.
The buffet breakfast, well, let’s just leave it at well?
The hotel is situated in the Lido area of Funchal and is a good 30 min walk from the Marina but has a good bus service at the bottom of the hill.
The hotel area has plenty of restaurants and shops and good level walks can be had from the main drag, around a five minute walk down hill from the hotel.
All in all we enjoyed our stay and would go back to this hotel.

I were on a 7 nights B&B stay in this hotel during Christmas period with Jet2 Holiday. The hotel itself is located far from Funchal, around 20-30 minutes walking or by public transport. The local area is actually full or hotels/ resorts, supermarkets and restaurants, where tourists stayed here. There were quite a lot of travel agents around the area, offering cheap Day Trips to several places in the island.
The hotel itself is a bit old and updated, but our room was newly refurbished and actually looked newer than pictures. The stay/ sleep was very pleasant and room came with full kitchenette facilities, where you can prepare your own meals. There are two swimming pools (indoor and outdoor), tennis court, sauna, etc. On the rooftop of the hotel, the view over sea/ mountains and Funchal was very pretty.
We were on B&B, but there were plenty of restaurants/ supermarkets around the area, so not a problem for us to have lunch and dinners. Breakfast however, certainly need improvement as the choice was limited and same everyday. Taste wasn't great, but you can fill your stomach if you are not too choosy. Staff were OK, some friendlier than the others. Most guests staying in this hotel were from all over Europe, not restricted to one or two countries.

Stayed here for a month and sure, it wasn't perfect but it was pretty darn close!
They've spent a lot of time and money upgrading areas during Covid and they're carrying on! They also act on words of advice and concerns promptly. We all love places who listen to their customers!
It was very well located (except the the hill but everyone mentions that and it does help your fitness! Then again, the entire island is hilly so what's an extra one to your hotel!?)
It was clean enough, staff are super friendly, beds were beyond comfortable and breakfast was spectacular! The rooms are a very good size and are being renovated . Breakfast if you haven't booked it is €5 a day per person or book 3 and get a fourth for free. It's 07:30 until 10:30, unlimited buffet!
The pools are good, the Terrace Bar food is very well priced (drinks a little steep) and there are various events during the week. Zumba, Salsa, Aqua aerobics, Levada walk and evening music too!
The gym is brand spanking new. It doesn't yet have air con or anything but there are windows and the kit is to a very high spec! During Covid, everything was cleaned before and after but there's sanitiser for you to use if you wish also.
I could say so much but I feel this is enough. Above all, I want to stress that this Hotel has made very positive changes and are continuing to do so!! There's a lot of credit to be given to the staff here and I'd recommend it with pleasure! I'd also happily return but I feel I've seen all of Madeira in the month I spent there!
Beautiful island, 'nuf said! 🎉 Hope my pictures show this place in an honest light!

Room Tip: 3 hotels, I stayed in Mimosa at the top. I'd definitely say this was the best one, for location,...

My partner and I stayed for two months at this hotel from October until December 2022. This was our second visit and I wish I could post a more positive review. Last year we stayed here for three months and enjoyed it, although it was a bit tired (the lobby carpet really needs replacing!).
Sadly I cannot say the same this time.
Firstly the good points and there are quite a few. The hotel is in the Lido area and the rooms (especially facing Funchal town) have really great views and balconies which were lovely for sitting and watching the sun rise in the mornings. We did not pay for a room with a view and we appreciated the hotel offering us one (even though they did downgrade us partway through the stay to a less well appointed room).
The rooms have kitchenettes which are really useful with fridge, hob and microwave and all the extras you need in crockery and cutlery (although the cooker in ours kept fusing the lights). The new rooftop terrace is really nicely done and a great place to sit and relax. We spent many pleasant hours here. The pool area is nice although the outdoor pool is very cold! There is an indoor pool as well though. Breakfast was good value (especially if you buy an advance price ticket if you have booked room only) and the evening buffet was reasonably good. Overall, for the price we paid, we found the facilities and food good and we were happy with it.
Now for the downside.
The doors to the stairs have heavy metal doors and if these haven't been closed then when it is windy the hotel echoes with these doors banging through the night!
The reception staff are really, really unfriendly. Even though we were there for two months none of them ever said good morning. You walk past reception to get to the lift and it was quite noticeable that they would look down to avoid speaking. Whenever I asked for anything I got barked at to the point I really avoided asking anything of them.
The cleaning was bad! There is one member of staff (Fatima) who is really excellent and works so hard, but the rest are very poor. We only asked for a room clean and bed change once a week and even so on at least three occasions the cleaner put the dirty sheets back on the bed, which we found completely unacceptable. Each time we were assured it wouldn't happen again. On the third or fourth time my partner was really angry and we asked for some recompense. They reluctantly gave us a dinner voucher - and then tried to charge us for this dinner when we checked out! When we pointed this out the receptionist was really rude to us. I left feeling quite upset. It is such a shame that this hotel is spoiled by some of the staff and it made us feel so bad I don't feel I can give more than 2 rating because of this.
We come to Madeira every winter and sadly, despite the lovely views, I wouldn't stay at the Mimosa again.

The complex consists of 3 hotels but I will deal with only the mimosa as it is where I stayed , I will get rid of the negative points first as they are few but important to anybody planning to stay , not the hotels fault but people with mobility problems will struggle in this hotel it is at the very top of the complex and has a very steep walk up to it ,so it probably won’t do for wheelchair users ,but to be fair most of Madeira you will find mobility a struggle if you have those problems ,it’s the way the island is but if you can find a way round this it’s a stunning island with some fantastic sights and view points , the trips are fairly priced and are found in the many trip shops around Funchal . Back to the hotel they do a take away bar pool service which is again fairly priced and of good quality , it’s a good base about a 20 minute walk down to Funchal centre , and you can get a number 4 bus that will drop you at the bottom of the hill back up to the hotel . The accommodation and amenities are a good standard and it would be fair to say it’s more suited to adults than kids ,but again the kids do have something to do there is a games room .all in all it is good value and the rooms are cleaned daily and the staff are friendly and very helpful . Thanx mimosa !!

We are at the hotel enjoying the last day of what has been a really relaxing two weeks. The studio apartment is fine for two and the kitchenette is adequate for preparing basics with a good fridge kettle and quality pots and pans. What makes this hotel exceptional is the staff, everyone here is friendly and helpful even with the effect the current situation has had on tourism they are cheerful and upbeat. The standards of cleanliness and hygiene throughout the hotel complex and in local shops, restaurants etc is of a very high standard. The covid test at the airport is very well managed and took about 30mins. from queue to exit. The test itself was uncomfortable but not painful and we received our results well within the stated 12 hours. The hotel provided complimentary fruit and bottled water whilst we waited for test results. We thought the breakfast here was very plentiful and most people would find something they liked. The buggy service down the very steep slope isn't operating due to covid regs but there are stairs and a hand rail down to the street. All in all a very good holiday. Many thanks to everyone here.Marjie and Nancy.

Thank you for a fantastic first stay on the island. The hotel was very accommodating with some last minute changes and for the accommodation and breakfast I think very good value for money. Overall very impressed with the hotel. Reception area is spacious and welcoming but found big lines at times to see someone with only 1 person to handle 2 hotels in reality. The pool area and facilities are perfect. The indoor pool warm and with beautiful tropical views really felt like heaven. The outdoor pool was great and made use of it. The pool bar was good but I think the drinks a little expensive. Onto the room and I cannot fault it everything you could want clean and modern. The bed was big and comfortable and a good shower. The balcony was Also great to relax on. Didn't use the gym or spa facilities so can't comment there but nice to know they were there. Went out both evenings so again can't comment on indoor bar or entertainment options but both again are there. Onto the food provision breakfast was great and very good value. Good selection of hot or cold options as well as fruits etc everything to meet the tastes for people from most countries. For breakfast it was very busy and struggle to get a table and the coffee and juice options I did think was poor quality but for the cost of breakfast can't really moan too much. I did have evening meal on night 1 and food the food to be of good quality and warm. Plenty of options to eat but once again expensive. We went out twice to a local restaurant and had a 3 course meal for €8.90 with drinks cheaper too so I'd personally recommend eating out. Overall excellent hotel and will certainly visit again thank you to all of the staff for a fantastic stay

I stayed at the Dorisol Mimosa on a Jet2 holiday. The hotel room was spotlessly clean and the room and beds were comfortable. I enjoyed sitting out on the balcony, and the cooking facilities made it easy to save a little money by sometimes eating in. The buffet breakfast provided a good choice of food and the price of the holiday was reasonable. The only problem with the hotel was the steep path up to it, which could be a problem for those less mobile.

I would have rated this hotel more if it wasn't for the fact that there was no air conditioning. Our room had a fan that broke and part of it fell off (thankfully not when we were in bed) the fan in the bathroom wasn't working the full week we were there despite reporting it more than once to reception.
The food was good. There was a good choice and the staff there were friendly for the most part. Unfortunately some weren't approachable, but most were very helpful.
Two lifts seemed to be running, but never always at the same time as there seemed to be maintenance there a lot.
I would strongly suggest that the hotel itself make everyone aware upon arrival that they charge per bottle of TAP water at the end of your stay. This was never made clear to us until we checked out.
Coffee was only available in the morning with breakfast but there was a charge out with breakfast hours.
Another suggestion to the hotel, if you are advertising a kitchenette area, at the very least have tea and coffee available for guests in every room.
I would also like to point out that on the internet and on the bathroom mirror there are very outdated charges when it comes to towel hire for the pool area.
It states on the sign in our hotel room that towel hire is €1 per person. This is now €25 deposit per person which I think is a bit steep regardless of getting your money back. Please change this so future guests do not get confused with misinformation that should be a priority to update for paying customers at your hotel.
The cleaning staff were efficient and friendly.
My only qualm was one day they weren't so vigilant when it comes to bathroom towels as they swapped ours out for towels with holes and rips in them other than that I have no complaints with them.
The advertisement for the rooftop bar isn't so much a bar, just empty of staff and never open, same for the bar to the left of reception.
It's a shame because there's so much potential to make it better.
This is just an honest upfront review. I don't mean to complain, it's more a suggestion or a nudge in the right direction for future purposes so that there's no confusion for future guests.

Pleasantly surprised.
It was booked fairly last minute as a cheap and cheerful trip
Booked a seaview room. The view was perfect across Funchal and the ocean.
Think the room had been updated in the not too distant past.
Asked for the room to be remade as a double. This was done the next day by the staff member who cleaned our room daily - who I have to say was super efficient and very helpful.
Breakfast buffet not bad although better juice would be good. Items restocked often and it was never hard to find a table.
Ate at the restaurant buffet on the first night for convenience. After that used restaurants nearby of which there is plenty of choice.
Pool area nice. Staff at the Terrace bar all friendly and helpful.
A shame that the hot tub wasn't available - waiting for parts. The sauna I understand in covid times.
Yes up a steep hill - this is Madeira.
Bolt/Uber/ taxis will come and get you if it is too much.
Overall a much better stay than I had expected. Would happily choose again.

Nothing if you are resident but not sure if a non resident. Email the hotel.
We were at this hotel in January and there were young children in the pool. I only used the indoor pool which would be suitable for your children.
Hope this helps.
From memory around Spain prices. I think we were around €50 for 200. But don't quote me on that x
