Our room was great, overlooking the pool area with a view of the sea through the buildings opposite. To get a full sea view you would need to be higher up.
We booked a kitchenette which was really useful if you don't want to eat out every night. The only problem was that there are no washing up items provided apart from a tea towel. Rightly so the cleaning staff will not do your pots for you. There is a supermarket very close by which has all the basics. There are numerous bars and restaurants all around an en route into town.
The other facilities in the room were great. A very comfy bed, a powerful and hot shower and a lovely balcony with a table and chairs and one lounger type chair - you might need to draw straws to see who gets to sit on it! It was also really quiet with no noise from outside or the corridors and rooms around.
The buffet breakfast at this hotel was amazing and had everything you could wish for, even sparkling wine. I am really missing this back in the UK eating my porridge! We didn't eat any other meals so I can't comment on dinner etc.
Staff at the hotel were very friendly and spoke good English.
We used the shuttle bus into town a couple of times but it is only every couple of hours and was very full having picked up at the sister hotel up the road. It is a must to book a place with reception.
It took us about half an hour to walk into town. If you are going down to the front be warned there is a very steep hill to get up on your way back. If you have any mobility issues I would suggest getting the bus.
All in all a really enjoyable stay at this hotel.
Alto Lido does not pay attention to detail: rooms looked quite cheap and not perfectly clean, the supplied shower gel/ shampoo was disgusting and smelled like spew (must be the cheapest option available for hotels), included breakfast was average at best plus they make you wear a plastic glove at the buffet, ordered a āfreshā orange juice at the pool bar, which was not even fully fresh but instead a mix with sugary juice concentrate and they still charge high prices for them. All in all not an enjoyable stay definitely wonāt be back!
There are many room types so choose what you require, don't opt for the cheapest and then moan there were better rooms and areas in the hotel than what you received. This hotel is under priced in my opinion.
Lovely room, spacious and air conditioned with lots of wardrobe space The bathroom very nice with a good walk in efficient shower. Shower gel, shampoo and conditioner were topped up daily.
Large balcony with side sea view 2 chairs and a table with great views in the morning over to the Desertas Islands.
They should really add the safe fee to the room price though, so many people disliked paying the 13ā¬ per week fee, just mark the room price up by 2ā¬ a day to include it and all problems solved!
The breakfast had a super choice, hot and cold, and you were met and shown to a table at a time you chose at check in. Buffet service with Covid regulations in place. I could not fault this and the staff were really kind and keen to make you welcome.
Location was fine for me and good exercise walking to and from the harbour front.
Only used the pool once but very modern and clean. The hotel is very close to a wide range of restaurants and shops. There is currently building work to the right of the hotel as you look out to sea. I think there are some apartments being built. This never bothered me as was out all day but you would hear it if you were by the pool.
I will be returning in November 2022 for another stay and this time have booked a sea view suite, hopefully they will be open as right beside the current building works. If not then so be it and I will happily stay in one of the Premium rooms.
Pleased we only booked a week and lost 1.5 days due to being diverted to Tenerife due to high winds I think if we had been booked for 2 weeks we would have asked to move
