Ok so this is only rated a 3 star hotel. But we are here in the hotel as I write this and for me it is 5 stars on location, cleanliness, reception, friendliness and quality of food. We only had the buffet breakfast. Champagne reception on arrival was really nice. Rooftop pool is excellent. Ok. It’s not all good. Here are the downsides. No air con in rooms. Only a ceiling fan which is ok but right now it’s really hot. No bidet in bathroom. Need to rent a room fridge.Rooms and balcony a tad on the small size but I stress perfectly adequate. Balconies face the sun too. I am a happy bunny. This hotel really hits the spot for my wife and I. The key question. Would I come back here ? Oh yes. In a shot. Great hotel. Love it. Congratulations to the hotel management and staff for a superb stay. Happy Bunny Mike Howarth…
part way up the hill just round a corner from the Pingo Doce supermarket sits a quirky 60's styled hotel where you will be made warmly welcome and at a 3* hotel with 5* service. From Reception greeting to house staff and bar/restaurant helpers we were looked after royally. Our room was basic but comfortable and spotlessly clean enjoying a refurbished bathroom. Breakfast was relaxed and plentiful with lots of choices. Dinner choices were limited to a fish dish, meat dish or salads but were superb quality and no lack of choice for dessert. The terraces up on the roof provided panoramic views of the Monte and the Harbour are over terracotta rooftops of Funchal and the cable cars gliding by at regular intervals. Pool was perfect and whilst we were there two loungers that gave way were quickly replaced with better models. Upstairs pool bar not open whilst we were there but a phone made available and service straight away. Ideally situated for most local amenities, restaurants, shops attractions, landmarks all within a few minutes walking distance and a taxi rank just 2 minutes away. If you want a quiet break away with excellent service and local access visit do Carmo, hope you like at as much as we.…
My girlfriend and I booked a room in the hotel do Carmo for the holidays. We loved the place. The decoration is so original ! The swimming pool on the rooftop is perfect : you can see the city while you swim or tan. + The breakfast is DELICIOUS ! There is something to suit all tastes !!…
This was a nice hotel, centrally located, but not noisy at away from the main town and close to a small square which was a perfect starting off point. Within 10 mins you could be down by the seaside restaurants or into the centre of town. Hotel staff were nice and friendly
This was my second stay at the Hotel do Carmo. Yes I could have chosen a more expensive hotel, yes I could have chosen a hotel with more bells and whistles, but I just love the quirkiness of this place. There's been some slight improvements since my last visit to public areas, but nothing much has changed. That includes the staff who all had very familiar faces and were still extremely friendly and welcoming, just as before. The hotel remains spotlessly clean and I'm sure I'll be back again on my next visit to this wonderful island.…
