Take no regard to the unprepossessing appearance of the stairs and reception this little Hotel is a gem. Our room and en suite were excellent. The staff changed the linen frequently and our room had an amazing view across the Tagus. The area is perfect for getting easily to all the sites. There is a great vibe in the bars and locality. We found some great value places to eat. The coffee shop under the Hotel is extraordinary, original fittings and tiles from the early 20th century and wondrous cakes and pastries. The breakfast in the Hotel is more than adequate. All in all, this Pensao is excellent value for money. I slept well all 7 nights and found plenty of English language programmes on the TV.
We expected to have a nice private room and bathroom at a pretty pension according to the pictures on the website. We were surprised that the carpets were dirty and stained and the bedroom was so small we could hardly walk around the bed due to a “bathroom” having been put in the room. As there was a sign over the toilet saying paper could not be put in and the heater and television were not working, we went to reception to ask that these problems be fixed. The lady there said she could not leave her desk to help us and we could not put paper in the toilet as there was no plumbing but that it had a “garbage disposal” system so soiled toilet paper should be put in the open wastepaper basket. I told her I was not used to this sort of thing and we asked for another room with a normal toilet. She told us they were full and could not give us a room that night but maybe the next day. This sort of toilet should never be allowed in a hotel! We were so disgusted that we asked if we could get a refund if we left but she told us no. We stayed the night in a freezing room hardly being able to use the bathroom (the lady did give us an electric space heater which didn't heat the room). The shower was dirty as well as I found out the next morning. When we went to complain to the young man at reception the next morning, he was defensive about the situation but fortunately agreed to give us a refund for the other 4 nights.…
In the bairro alto, with beautiful view on the town and hill from the 4th floor. Many restaurants and bars in the area, including a viewpoint. Basic breakfast and private bathroom for a good price. Common areas need a bit of a renovation.
Positives: Central location with many spots for sightseeing and good restaurants within walking distance. Very friendly staff in the reception, who also speak decent English. Relatively reliable Wi-Fi. Negatives: Tiny rooms with a built in ‘closet’ making up the bathroom. Several moldy surfaces which should have been cleaned years ago. Extremely dirty and nasty carpet in the apartment - sheets and bed linen was also not very clean. Terrible breakfast, not worth the money at all - we skipped it all but one day of our stay and then just ate something when out in the town instead. No space to store clothes or other items. Our room had a TV, it however did not work. Very loud place, it felt like we were sleeping out in the hallway. Generally Pensao Londres is a very old and worn out place to stay when in Lisbon, with way too many bad things to say about the place. And with a price of app. 100€/day this is simply too expensive for the quality delivered - stay somewhere else when visiting this great city! …
In an older building but very serviceable. Nice staff and delicious breakfast included. In the center of Principe Real. walking distance to many restaurants and attractions. 20 minute drive to airport.
