We've had a very pleasant stay at Maxime Hotel at the end of February. The reception staff were always helpful, the breakfast had plenty of cold and hot options, a lot of fruits, pastry, plenty of tea/juice and coffee's. The room was very pleasant and very well decorated in terms with the hotel theme! Bathroom was quite spotless, quite a main check that many hotels fail nowadays. Bed was very comfy and large enough for two people to stretch fully and barely reach themselves! Short to none distance to a main street which offers transport and shops all over the place.

As this was our 1st trip to Lisbon, we based our hotel choice on Location and Cost. We arrived at the hotel Maxime, we were receivied a warm and genuine greeting by the front desk manager. This 100% customer service ethos continued from all staff members during our stay.

First impressions of the reception and the Bar area was the classic Art Deco style decor and the pristinely cleanliness. This homage to the cabaret culture of the roaring 1920’s is carried out throughout the hotel and brilliantly done. The theme of the decor may not be to everyone’s taste but we thought it was fantastic.

Our room on the 4th floor was a classic twin with a very well appointed en-suite. The room also had a coffee machine with espresso capsules and water which are replenished daily, a wireless speaker which we used for music from our mobile phones. The bed was 2 x 3’ single beds pushed together and were very comfortable overall. Aircon was a definite bonus as temps soared over 30C on a couple of days. The only issue with the room was storage space, as with other reviews, there was no wardrobe but a number of clothes hangars on a metal frame surrounding the A/C unit. When full of clothing, this made access to one side of the bed a little awkward at best. This set up is definitely not the best solution for guests travelling with anything more than small carry on bags as it’ s insufficient for most guests especially if shirts, blouses, dresses etc are a priority for hanging. There was no safe in the room either but I think there was one available in reception. Other than that the beds were really comfortable and we slept well as the whole area was really quiet.
Breakfast in the mornings is both varied and excellent. The staff are very efficient and courteous and the offerings are restocked on a regular basis. We have to mention one member of Starr in particular Helen Sousa…She is exceptional in her customer service and care for which we are very greatful..

The Hotel Maxim is located a short 100m walk from the Ave. da Liberdade where within 10 minutes walk you’ll be in the heart of the retail areas, restaurants, coffee shops and the waterfront which makes the Hotel Maxim a fantastic location from where to explore Lisbon.

Our stay at the Hotel Maxim was an average €160 per night + taxes (Monday -Thursday end of September ‘23) which we thought was great considering the location in a busy capital city. Would we stay at the at the Hotel Maxime again? Absolutely YES..!!!

I'm not saying this hotel was bad. It's just that it promised so much more than it provided, and let itself down in little ways that really could have been avoided. For example when we arrived (quite late in the evening) we were led that there was a private party in the bar, so we couldn't use it. Could we pop in and take a drink up to our room? No. Could we get her room service brought up? No. But we COULD listen to the private party's music in our room for the rest of the night. The next afternoon they had ticketed dinner/show events in the bar area, so once again it was of limits. We were also told that only the first Nespresso in the room would be free, although this may have been a miscommunication.
Other disappointments were the room being small, and almost devoid of any desktop areas to put things and no actual wardrobe.
That said, the location was okay (not great, not bad), and the decor was quite plush if you like the dark, burlesquey feel.

The staff were nice, and the breakfast was decent.

So in all, it's okay, but doesn't live up to its own hype.

Looks like a good hotel on first impressions , we have had no hot water at some points of the day so no showers in the morning or evening, not very hot breakfast all cooked food sits in the core temperature danger zone , ( upset stomachs from breakfast) . The breakfast itself is good but the coffee tastes like dish water . They really could do better in this area . No vegetarian protein options available, we were informed they would get some in by the second morning but unfortunately this didn’t materialise apparently they are coming later in the day so hopefully will be available tomorrow, half way through our stay .

The rooms themselves are to a high spec it’s a shame everything else lets this hotel down . They try and get every penny they can out of their customers even after charging premium rates , if you drink the 2 provided Nespresso capsules in the room 2 more are replaced by the house keeping team and these are charged to your room @€2.50 we only consumed 1 and was charged for 2 on a daily basis without consent , I personally think this is nothing but rude and an absolute insult , I had already asked for a few extra capsules from the house keeping which they proceeded to explain I will be charged so I declined ( they replaced them after we left our room and charged us anyway !!!! ) SCAM 101 - it’s cheaper to pop to Nespresso in the centre and pick a sleeve up 😁!

We spent a couple of days in this very beautiful hotel. The room was great, the whole maxime theme of the hotel exciting. We loved to stay there. The staff was extremely helpful, especially after the emerging problems with covid. The location of the hotel is very central and ideally suited for visiting the center of the city. The breakfast was excellent, a very big variety of food. Our room was at the third floor and it was very quiet.
We will return to Lissabon once the situation with covid will be better, and for sure we will come back to this hotel!

Marvellous hotel in a great location. You are a few minutes walk from the nearest tube station (Avenida) and close to all the main squares and therefore the bus and tram stops for travelling around the city. The staff at the hotel couldn't have made us more welcome or comfortable, nothing was too much trouble.
The room was exactly as portrayed on the website, very clean and the bed was big and comfortable. The only drawback is that there were no drawers to put clothes in, but there are hangers on rails and I was delighted to find a hanger with clips for skirts, which is something you don't often find in hotels. I ordered a surprise VIP treat of port and pasteis de nata for my husband and the reception staff were brilliant in keeping it quiet when we checked in. Another bonus in this hotel is that they give you a bottle of mineral water each day.
Bathroom has all the basic toiletries, plus tissues and hairdryer.
Staff at reception are knowledgeable and ever ready to help, we felt very comfortable asking any questions we had.
They recommended a restaurant just round the corner from the hotel, called Gina's. This is worth a visit both for the quality of the food (and the amount you get!) and the price.
We also found that the cafes and restaurants in the museums are better quality and cheaper than eating in the centre.
All in all, I can't fault the hotel or the staff - not something I write often!

Tips: Don't pay for a taxi from the airport when you arrive - we were charged too much (we found out later), even though it was an authorised cab. It's very easy to take the tube to Sao Sebastiao and change to the blue line to Avenida, from where it's a two minute walk to the hotel.
Unless you want to cram in as many museums and galleries as possible, we found it cheaper to buy a 24 hour ticket (24 hours from the time you first use it) in the tube station. For EUR 6.60 you can have all the travel you want on buses, trams and tube.
At breakfast in the hotel (which is excellent) the coffee from the machine is awful! We were lucky enough to be offered a coffee made by staff on our second day, and that was very good, so do simply ask for the coffee you want rather than taking it from the machine.
I would recommend not buying water or food supplies from any of the small "mini mercado" around the city as they seem to charge an inordinate amount for everything. Just across the Avenida da Liberdade is a big Aldi, so do go there for bottles of water etc.

We visited in early March, when Portugal introduced emergency measures relating to Covid – 19. We stayed for 4 nights and on our last morning the Hotel closed.
The Hotel is well situated to Central Lisbon, with easy access to shops, restaurants, and tourist areas. We loved the theme of the Hotel. The rooms are very original with some being themed. We stayed in a deluxe room on the fourth floor. It was decorated well and made us laugh, and had all we needed in the way of facilities, coffee maker, tv, en-suite with shower and efficient air conditioning. It also had a good view over Praca Alegria. The Wi-Fi was fast and managed well with live streaming.
There is an outside seating area on floor one, which is used as smoking area. One can also order drinks by a remote bell system.
The staff are very friendly, and have a great sense of humour. Everybody in the hotel was helpful, especially when Lisbon restaurants were closing, trying to find us somewhere to eat, when their own restaurant had closed.
Breakfast is buffet style with a large selection of warm and cold dishes, all very tasty. One can easily spend an hour, tasting all the treats. Service was very attentive. On last morning, before closure, they were offering a la carte dishes.
We would highly recommend this hotel; we fell in love with it and the staff.
On a further note, we would like to wish all the staff our best wishes with the current Covid -19 emergency measures. Thank you for your good service, we hope you and your families keep safe.

We enjoyed our stay at Maxine and would have rated it 5 stars if there were some minor changes. The staff is too notch and very attentive, the hotel is clean and has great ambiance, and the bar and entertainment will peak your interest, however the mattresses were not comfortable, the rooms and bathrooms are very small (we stayed in a deluxe room), there was no safe in the room, and there was very limited room for luggage and travel essentials. We would recommend this hotel for anyone that is traveling in for a weekend as the location is just off the main strip through town, but if your staying for an extended time and need more room you may want to check out the other rooms they have as the deluxe room is quite small.

Stayed here recently for 3 nights and found it very enjoyable. The rooms are beautifully decorated with different themes, the breakfast (8-11) is well set out with a very wide range of foods to suit all. The bar area has a lovely relaxing feel to it and all the more so for been in the excellent hands of Pedro(a major asset). Reception staff friendly and helpful and a lovely external bar area on the 1st floor. The location of the hotel is central, 3 min walk to nearest metro, 3 min to designer shops and about 10 min to the commercial and tourist center of Lisbon.

Central Lisbon, where Maxime is located, is meant to be navigated by foot. I haven't seen a car park, although in my booking there was an option to drive, leave car with valete, and they'd park it for you. If you do drive, might be good to contact the hotel directly and discuss your options, as depending on season, and hotel policies, whatever is written here may change anyway... good luck! That is a lovely area, where Maxime is located!

Hi no it’s not too far from the center - depending on what you mean by the center. The alfama praca comercio baixa and bairro alto are all less than 1.2 miles and we felt safe all the time. Now it is hilly so some of the walks at a bit demanding like to the castle. Although I think drugs are legalized in Portugal we never smelled pot and other than a few beggars never saw anyone that gave us pause.

Yes, there was a safe. Ours in particular was a little difficult to operate. Tiny, about 5” x 7”, just enough to put travel documents and jewelry.
