Booked a golf package this lovely hotel for 8 nights to celebrate my 60th birthday in November. Just perfect. Simple and friendly check in, nice half bottle of port and traditional custard tarts waiting in our room on 4th floor with views over pool and coast. Tea and coffee making facilities in room. The hotel justs oozes charm and the service is second to none. Doorman, concierge, reception, waiting staff and chambermaids all in uniform and all welcoming and helpful. Most days the room was cleaned whilst we were at breakfast and there is an evening turn down with a couple of chocolates waiting on the pillow. The breakfast is varied and of top quality, you may order eggs or veg cooked to your liking over and above the wide selection of hot and cold food on offer and the silver service and embossed china just adds to the overall luxury. Furniture and carpets and drapes add charm. There is free use of a large spa and a very modern and well equipped gym. The hotel is no more than 200 yards to the Estoril Casino, though we never visited. The seaside town itself has a good variety of bars and restaurants and a decent supermarket. The walk along the prom to Cascais is a lovely stroll or there is the alternative of a 4 minute train ride. Cascais has a larger and more varied selection of restaurants and the Portuguese wines are first class and very reasonably priced. We spent a very nice day in Lisbon which is a 5 euro return train journey. The hotel provides free transport to the golf courses. We played 5 rounds at Estoril and 1 at Penha Longa. Estoril is well laid out and very enjoyable and was in very nice condition. No problem walking the course. Only complaint would be the 8 minute tee times and the complete absence of a starter on the first and no sign of marshall on the course which unfortunately meant slow rounds. Penha Longa is undoubtedly a beautiful course in a lovely parkland setting with some great views however in November it was boggy and waterlogged with very long grass on fairways to the point of being almost unplayable. Greens very poor. No such problem at Estoril even though they are only a few miles apart. Penha Longa is more hilly though we did walk. Buggies do have to be kept on buggy paths in any case. Back to the hotel, thanks to everyone for making our stay so memorable and for the lovely extra touches on my birthday. Thank you to Tania at reservations for all her help with the booking. Just a perfect stay in a lovely location. One small note if you are arriving at Lisbon airport as we did. We booked the taxi via the hotel at 60€ each way and no complaints. Due to flight schedule we arrived and left midweek arriving and departing at times that meant driving from and to Lisbon during the rush hour. No exaggeration to say that what would be a 30 minute journey outwith rush hour took 1 hour 20 minutes. Worth bearing in mind. In short, a wonderful holiday!…
It was a place wher I spent par of my childhood and my parents still go there for lunch, specially in summer. James Bond's Casino Royal was filmed there and and Ian Flemming lived there when he was writing Casino Royal and was servicing the British Intelligence Service..Everything used to be glamorous. I had not been there for a long time and it was a shock. They have been into major renovation works. They simply don't fit. The bar is just sinister, the previous rooms between the main hall and the dining room have just an awful, neon like, light and have horrible chairs for "events". The food lost all its prvious "palace splendor" and it is very, very average. How can one destroy a mythical place, full of history? A crime and a shame
The room was superb with a decanter of Port awaiting us when we arrived. The food was well presented and was great. The staff is very attentive and provides good service. A good choice of food with fresh seafood and meats as well. A bit pricey but well worth it.
Lovely Hotel, friendly stall very helpful, good bar and restaurant. The room very always clean and a very comfortable bed, we stay in this hotel via Golfbreaks to play gold at three local courses great trip
The hotel is conviniently located close to the train station. It is classy and classic with very nice lounges. The room was spacious and comfortable, yet somehow old. The worst was that when someone was walking on the room above, the noice was as being in my room.
"Rooms on the south side are quieter , good view of the sea and the pool area. Breakfast is included and you will not want to miss it ."Read full review
