This is a very good choice with a magnificent view on Monte Brasil. At first we had a "Garden view" room, but the ***fantastic pigeons*** all around really made us ask for a seaview room. Which we got, at a premium (but the view out on the bay is just...well, check yourself!!! Worth every EUR). Pigeons are still there, but not quite as prolific. The rooms are just fine, the breakfast is absolutely alright - but do not expect a completely different buffet every morning. What you should definitely do is check out the bar. They have really superb burgers at rather insane (low!) prices, and home-made potatoe chips. Check out! When we were there, the bar was mainly run by Angela, and she did a fantastic job, MOST definitely! Also very noteworthy is the Piano man, 80+, who brings up a most spirited performance each Saturday (he did, in December 2019 - we hope he is well). Otherwise, do Caracol is perfectly located at the end of the VR/city bypass for roaming out, be it to Sao Mateus and westward, to the absolutely indispensible Continente, to Monte Brasil or the city of Angra. There is also a Gym in the basement which would suit me, as a victim of home office.... My finger is hovering over the "book now!" button for another Caracol trip for some time - I hope we are all relived from this plague sooner than later ! Terceira is a place you will enjoy, test it! BTW, actual time of visit was just before Christmas 2019, just before the madness began. There is no fresher air than on the Azores!

This was a very nice surprise! The room was very spacious and comfortable and the lobby very attractive. The front staff was very friendly and helpful as well. We had an ocean view with a small balcony and were able to open the door and enjoy the breeze. The room was modern and everything worked perfectly. They had a very nice breakfast buffet but the dinner buffet was very overpriced and just okay. There was limited outside parking right in front of the hotel, but ample space in an underneath garage that was free. Overall, a very nice option for a stay.

This hotel was fine but very different from hotels in the U.S. We missed being able to make hot water in the room & we missed an ice machine. :-(. Otherwise, no complaints - and those aren't really complaints either because I know it's not the U.S. and I shouldn't expect the same exact service. Wish they would give 2 keys though!

The flight from Boston SATA air was very nice. I wish we had been told that there would be a 7 hour wait to get our assigned room at the hotel. The 4hr flight left Boston @ 10:20pm and after they served dinner we had just 2hr to rest of uninterrupted flight time and it was 6:45am when we arrived very tired. We elected to pay for transportation from Azores airport to our hotel (bus was great) and the written instruction said staff would meet us with our name or Azores getaway...but after waiting about 20” we discovered the bus was outside. At the hotel there was no place to sit or rest and we were exhausted. So, heads up if you choose this hotel.

Response from joaquimdesousa, General Manager at Hotel do Caracol

Dear Guest Thank you for your stay @hoteldocaracol.com and also for letting us know about your feelings and thoughts. Concerning the waiting time to check in, I would like to express once more what would be the best option: Guests have the possibility of buying the early check in night. This means that you can buy an extra night for when you arrive at the hotel you have the breakfast buffet waiting and the room ready for you to rest. This is the best option. When you arrive at the hotel in the morning, the rooms are still occupied and the guests checking out. We need to clean the rooms so new guests can check in from 2pm onwards. On your last day, when you checked out, theres was also other guests at reception waiting. Same situation. As you well say , if you choose this hotel (or other hotel because the procedure will the same) heads up and book the previous night of your arrival date. Thank you again for letting us to give this tip to future guests and deliver a better service. Joaquim de Sousa General Hotel Manager

The good.. the breakfast buffet, it really was good! The bad.. we ended up with a poorly located room off the main lobby. It was noisy at night, tough to get a good nights sleep. It was just bad luck for us as the hotel was full and did not have any alternatives for us. If you can, upgrade to an oceanview room. Front desk staff are very helpful, the island is amazing!
