Hotel was clean and comfortable, my only complaint about the room was that the hooks in the bathroom were so small that the towels would not stay hung up. Reception staff were not particularly friendly or outgoing but if approached were very polite and helpful. The pool area was attractive but the pool itself was FREEZING and too cold to swim in comfortably for more than a few minutes. The decor, keeping with the theme of its earlier days as a conservatory/college, was quaint. Breakfast was a little sparse in options but served buffet style and was good overall. We ate at the attached restaurant for dinner on our first night there. The food was wonderful but the service was awful. We were a party of 10, but it took almost 90 minutes for our food to be served and we were the only people in the restaurant! The hotel is in an excellent location and a safe area. It is about a five minute walk downhill to the waterfront. We happened to be there when there was a large festival going on; the opening concert was at the church right down the hill at 10:30pm. I was the only one who wanted to go and walked there alone at night and felt perfectly safe.…
The hotels owner transformed his old college to a very tasty and ecological aware hotel. For example, this is the first hotel where I saw the TV in my room entirely shut down for zero consumption during your absence. The old structure of the typical azorean architecture is nicely renovated. Just the ever turning TV screen in the lobby is some sort of bad tase and does not invite you to take a seat and a view on the secret court yard pool.…
Just returned from 8days in Porto Delgada. Hotel do Colegio was our home base and it couldn't have been a better experience! The staff was AMAZING! It was like being greeted by friends every day. The slightest question/issue we had was addressed almost before we could finish the sentence. The rooms are good sized, comfortable and SPOTLESS! There was a bit of street noise but nothing awful and between 10-8 it was silent. Perfect location for markets, restaurants, coffee shops, FADO. Oh and can't forget a parking garage, though the car elevator was a bit terrifying!…
First the good news. Great location 2 minute walk from central cafe and the sea front. Gonçalo in the bar and all the housekeeping staff were also great and friendly which is the other star. The room we had was a good size. Now the bad news. On arrival, at no point did anyone offer to help with bags, show us on a map where we were and point out key locations or offer suggestions or help with excursions, restaurants etc. This became a theme as not once when we happened to pass their way did any of the reception staff look up, greet us or ask us if we needed anything. The only times we interacted with them was to ask where the advertised safe in our room was (there wasn’t one - in either of our rooms, which reception seemed not to know, as they kept insisting it was in the cupboard. This was a massive inconvenience and their solution was to offer us second hand envelopes to put all our valuables in so we could keep them in their safe); when we asked for an iron we were told there wasn’t one - when I expressed incredulity at this (a 4 star hotel with NO iron?? Really??) we had a price list thrust at us saying we had to pay for ironing. When I asked to speak to the manager the man in reception made a phone call. I never saw or spoke to the manager but he was obviously told to advise me that the reason there was no iron was because former guests had burned items in the room with it so they didn’t provide one any more, which is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. They did grudgingly provide an iron in the end which cane with a broken ironing board we had to prop up with books and which was so small you could barely iron a pair of briefs on it. Pathetic. I checked out the evening before we left and in the morning as we were getting into the cab the man on reception (a different one, but from the same school of charm) accosted me and asked if I was going to check out. I said I already had the night before. He spat at me ‘no, you PAID the night before, now you have to CHECK OUT!’ Which basically meant handing our keys back. What a guy. Breakfast is average and the pool is freezing. The room had no towel rail so our room looked like a laundry with items hanging from every door knob and chair. The shower leaked. And there were renovations next door which meant workmen started banging at 7.30 am. Not necessarily the hotel’s fault but it would have been nice to have been forewarned, or apologised to when we were there although we were swiftly learning that this wasn’t in Reception’s repertoire. Even when we had been stood up by a tour guide and were clearly trying to work out in reception what had gone wrong, reception staff ignored us. Another tour guide who was waiting for another guest was the only one who came up and tried to help. I wouldn’t stay here again if you paid me. It’s so far from a 4 star it’s embarrassing. The service is awful and they couldn’t care less about their guests. Ponta Delgada and Sao Miguel are beautiful but save yourself a massive headache and stay somewhere else.…
I stayed at this hotel during my stay in Ponta Delgada and I liked it altought it was little bit too pricey. Staff was very professional and I liked talking to them, my room was very spacious and cleaned well. I only find the breakfast very basic and poor for 4 stars hotel. Scrammbled eggs with beacon everyday is really boring meal. Location is good - seaside is 3 minutes of walking from the hotel. I parked our car in Av. Gaspar Frutuoso street which was close and good. Hotel´s garage is very limited and adventurous.…
