Located on the banks of the Berg River just outside Velddrif on the Cape West Coast, you will find the luxurious L'Ermitage Quagga Lodges an off-grid solar-powered getaway consisting of 5 modern modern Chalets overlooking the river. Each Chalet has two bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, a spacious lounge and dining area, and a fully equipped kitchen inside and outside BBQ facilities. Each Chalet offers complimentary wifi, DSTV satellite channels, and ceiling fans. These Chalets are booked on a Self Catering basis Velddrif is located approximately 145 kilometers north of Cape Town and surrounded by Langebaan, Port Owen and Paternoster. It is situated near the point where the meandering Berg River flows into the ocean with excellent hiking and mountain biking trails. The Berg River estuary is home to around 30,000 birds. Daily Safari Game Drives are available for our guests at an additional fee, offering a rare opportunity to see these beautiful wild animals in their natural habitat.

It is a very well equipped and designed house, the bathrooms and bedrooms are large with loads of cupboard storage. Kitchen fully equipped with appliance instructions where needed. A wonderful fireplace that kept the house warm and cozy. Very large central area with inside braai. I will definitely go again.

The chalets at L’Ermitage are exquisite. With 2 en suite bedrooms, they are perfect for a family visit or two couples sharing. There are nice walking or biking paths along the river where the birds will keep you entertained. Johan and Linda are charming hosts, and be sure to go on a game drive with Johan to see the rebred quagga as well as golden oryx, golden wildebeest, sable, buffalo, and other small antelope.

The lodges are light, spacious, clean with views of the Berg river and the birdlife there. They are well equipped. Only the showers are unreliable. The hosts are lovely and the drives to see the Quagga and other animals are great fun.

This is such an amazing property, it took out breath away as we entered the cottage and saw the high ceilings, the wooden floors, and most of all the wall of windows that open out onto the wide open view of the river. The cottage had all we needed for the self-catering weekend and we were able to braai both nights and have a great birthday celebration. We were treated so well by all staff and we felt really special, especially the birthday girl who got well wishes from everyone. The game drive was very interesting and we learned a lot about the Quagga and the rehabilitation of the species. We also did a nearby boat ride on the river which was so peaceful and we were able to have some very interesting conversations with the crew and passengers alike.

Beautiful, Comfortable, Clean, Very new with high quality finishes, lovely views.... all you could possible need was there. The bedrooms are on each side of the living room which gives you privacy. En-suite in both rooms. Fantastic! We only missed a jetty to get into the river behind the property.

We spent four nights at L'Ermitage in December and really enjoyed it. The location on the Berg River is lovely and quiet. The accommodation is well designed and was equipped with everything we needed. The beds are super comfortable with high quality linen. There is good birdlife if you enjoy birding and fishing in the river. Johan and Linda are very welcoming and offer good advice on the area. Highly recommended.

Our stay was absolutely wonderful and we cannot wait to go back again. The booking process was efficient and easy, and all the needed information was sent in advance. Our check in was warm, friendly and welcoming. The chalet was stunning - everything surpassed our expectations - it was beautifully located and our stay was truly peaceful and refreshing overlooking the river and the game and birdlife. The entire stay was fantastic. The reception was warm and welcoming. The chalet was spacious and well equipped. We loved the windows that opened up the front of the house allowing for memorable sunset views . The choice of indoor and outdoor braai was great. We went on a game drive which was excellently guided by Heindrich and Thomas who were knowledgeable and entertaining. We were lucky enough to see the Buffalo and learn about the rebred Quagga. Perfect time with beautiful views of the Berg river. Magnificent sunsets with a pink skyline quite late in the evening. Very peaceful. Staff friendly & helpful. An awning on the river side of the property could be considered an enhancement as while the fans work well, it does become extremely hot during the afternoon.
