The family run Hotel Alpenhof lies in the center of Zermatt in a sunny, quiet location. The cable car Sunnegga, which access the ski slopes and hiking area, is directly across from the hotel and the train station and Gornergrat railway are just 5 minutes' walk away. The 5 floor Hotel Alpenhof offers 62 comfortable rooms, most of which have their own balcony. The rooms are equipped with bath/WC, minibar, telephone, radio, Wi-Fi, cable TV, safe and a cozy seating area. Look forward to the naturally lit, Alpenhof SPA area on the first floor. The new, stylishly renovated hotel lobby offers plenty of space to relax and enjoy regional snacks and wine specialties. We pamper our hotel guests every day with a new and freshly prepared 5-course selection menu. A special highlight is the exquisite cheese buffet. Our refined Cigar Lounge, one of a kind in Zermatt, offers fine digestives, smoky whiskys and a solid selection of cigars. Sitting in front of a roaring fire listening to our pianist is the perfect way to end a day's hiking or skiing. Every Wednesday during the high season the family run business offers you a free visit to their herd of black nose sheep.

Detailed Reviews
We stayed at this hotel for a couple of nights in early June, for my girlfriend's birthday.
The location in the village is not great, on the edge of the village center, however we had the room with a direct view of the Matterhorn. Great!
The room was excellently furnished and with all the desired amenities, as well as a great wifi connection.
The mattress was very comfortable and the temperature in the room, almost perfect.
Speaking of the spa, this is essentially divided into three parts: a heated indoor pool with whirlpool corner, an indoor sauna area and an outdoor area with whirlpool, Finnish sauna and relaxation area.
The pool had a pleasant temperature, not too high, of sufficient length also for swimming, in times of low crowding.
It looks new, well maintained, really relaxing.
The indoor sauna area, on the other hand, has a biosauna and some wet cabins, as well as a couple of relaxation areas.
Like any traditional sauna area, it is forbidden to use the bathing suit.
Here the judgment is not satisfactory, since the biosauna is not hot enough and the wet cabins did not appear to be properly cleaned (between the tiles of the wet cabins there were dark marks usually attributable to the presence of mold).
In addition, the area is generally quite cold, both in temperature and appearance.
As for the outdoor area, however, the judgment is totally positive. The whirlpool has excellent temperature and water jets.
The Finnish sauna is large, excellently warm and with soft lighting, extremely pleasant. Even this to be done without costume, with outside a shower only cold and a tub to soak. All very nice even if people in the whirlpool look sometimes surprised at naked people outside the sauna.
The relaxation area, with water mattresses, really relaxing.
As for the restaurant, both at breakfast and dinner we found great attention and quality, as well as the surprise of reserved tables with greeting cards and cake for my girlfriend's birthday.
The price paid was correct for the quality of service and the location of the hotel, so my opinion is totally positive, with only the note about the inside of the wellness area, which can be easily solved (in the past I worked in a spa).
Suggested hotel for a nice stay in Zermatt.

What a fantastic hotel. The rooms were fantastic for our family of 4, exactly as pictured and to a very high standard. The spa area is exceptional, and it’s great that there is a separate area where kids are allowed (the pool) so that you can relax in some of the non-kid areas (hot tub, sauna etc).
The bar area is really special, and a great place to relax before of after going out into Zermatt.
In addition the staff were very friendly, especially the barman Avdi who was great company, interesting and had lots of things to talk about regarding skiing etc.
We will be returning, 100%.
Oh and top tip, book direct. The ebikes are free of charge, later checkout (12.30) and currently the tourist board is giving you 100CHF if you book direct and visit.

We had the most amazing 4 night stay at the Alpenhof in Zermatt. From the moment we rang to organise collection from the train station the service was just 5 star!
Our ski gear was magically put away into the most amazing heated ski locker, long gone are the days of putting cold boots on your feet in the morning!
We booked half board and ate 3 nights in the Alpenhof and had a fondue in Hotel Julen. The wine list was great, the food was delicious and the service in the restaurants was very good also! We had the pleasure of meeting Paul-Marc and Cindy who were both very attentive to their guests.
The room was very comfortable, we loved the decor and the beautiful photograph of the Matterhorn over our bed. The Spa was absolutely wonderful also.
I would highly recommend half board at the Alpenhof and next time I'm lucky enough to get back to Switzerland to go skiing there is nowhere else I would consider staying!

If you are in Zermatt to ski, Hotel Alpenhof is directly across from the Sunegga lift and will make your walk very easy! They even have ski lockers for your stay with boot heaters- gear up walk up 8 stairs, 500 ft. Across the street and you are at the lift window.
Do yourself a favor and book a balcony view! Beautiful facilities, great sauna, spa and outdoor jacuzzi. Breakfast was very good.
Easy walking into other parts of town. Hotel shuttle picks you up at the train station and drops you off.
I highly recommend this hotel!! Message me for more info! I love to talk travel!

We went skiing in Zermatt in January 2021 (during Covid) and this place was the perfect getaway: Nice comfortable Rooms, Great 5 courses dinner every night (even the possibility to go for a Fondue in their sister hotel in Zermatt), afternoon Teas, great breakfast buffet, etc.
In terms of entertainment this hotel has a great indoor pool (heated), and a wonderful outdoor jacuzzi for guests. The perfect way to relax after a ski day.
It is also located 50m from the Sunegga Teleski, Rentals, etc, and have a Ski lockers downstairs.
Perfect to discover the Zermatt skiing experience!

This is a fantastic hotel; we have been touring Switzerland staying in 4 star hotels and the Alpenhof is by far the best hotel we have stayed in. The food, in particular, is superb (we stayed half board). The rooms are great - ours was an Alpine Chic room and the staff are all lovely, particularly the restaurant staff.

This is by far the most beautiful property and the best that i have experienced in Switzerland. It was me, my spouse and my 15 year old son. We had 2 massive bedrooms with attached balconies and bathrooms with a view of the iconic Matterhorn. The room, the staff, the bar.... everything was amazing. The breakfast was the highlight to begin with with some beautiful fresh orange juice and the best Prosecco. Every night the staff would come over and give us Toblerone.
There is a spa, swimming pool all within the property that you can use irrespective of weather conditions. The room has umbreallas and a bag for you to head out comfortably. They pick you and drop you without any charges to the station, you can honestly walk, it is a very short distance.
The market place is all walking distance from the hotel. One long street eateries and local shopping. You can hire bikes, electric scooters from the market, there is a Decathlon where you can hire one at a very reasonable price. Switzerland is in general very very expensive but if you are on a budget, there is a Mc Donalds as well.
I would love to revisit this place.

This os one of the best hotel experiences I have had in years of travel! Well appointed, spacious rooms, beautiful bar and restaurant areas, but by far the most impressive was the staff. Front desk agent (Chris) was super helpful- gave us amazing recommendations for activities and dining, and was just all around friendly! Ali at the bar was delightful as well, expertly mixing delicious cocktails and telling us the history of the place. Every little detail is thought of in this hotel, and the staff - weather cleaning staff, wait staff, bell staff, were all happy, helpful : you can tell they love their jobs! 100% will be back.

Hotel exceeded all expectations. Did the all inclusive & the food / wine at both Alpenhof and sister property Julen was excellent. Service & hospitality was top notch, especially entire bar staff led by Ali who was terrific. Spa was very nice, did multiple massages and relaxed in pools. Location is a stones throw from funicular lift and the elevator entrance to hotel ski room by the main entrance was a very nice touch.

Agree. The outdoor sauna is very nice and very hot. However, the hot tub was more like bath water when I was there. In fairness, it was extremely cold outside and maybe it didn’t feel as hot due to the temperature?
We have never been to Zermatt in September but I would think that around 15 C is about right for mid September. Just rember the higher you go the colder it gets! Anyway if you stay in the Alpenhof or any of the families other hotels you can be sure of a warm welcome. They are first class!!
As far as i remember they have. And if a room should not be equipped I would sent a email to the hotel prior arriving and asking for preparing one on your room.
Hello
Yes they have. And they serve also nice teas to the room.
You will enjoy it
