Welcome to our alpine hotel with its long family tradition ! The Hotel Alpenrose is the oldest hotel in Wengen and has been owned and run by the same family for well over a hundred years. The 40 rooms and the lounges have been recently renovated in alpine chalet style using lots of wood and the hotel’s own antique furniture. A log fire in our lounge adds to the welcoming atmosphere after a day in the mountains. In our dining room a hearty breakfast is served from our buffet and a fine half board set menu is served in the evenings. The Hotel Alpenrose is situated about 10 walking minutes below the train station and the village centre in a quiet and pleasant location with stunning views into the beautiful valley of Lauterbrunnen and the surrounding snowcapped mountains.

A beautiful family run hotel. Its so good I came twice this year for just over three weeks in total . What makes this hotel so special is the the people who work there who make you feel so welcome, particularly if you have been before. Being a family run hotel there is great attention to detail and one is welcomed and waved off by the owners. They also have a weekly drinks party to which all guests are invited so one has a chance to get to know ones fellow guests many of whom have been coming for years, which tells one a lot. It feels more like a house party than just a hotel to stay in. The rooms are nicely furnished and there is a good price range from single rooms up to the smart superior rooms. The lounge areas are very comfortable with lots of places to curl up and read a book or chat to friends. The food is very good and there is an excellent selection of wines to choose from. Rooms with the south facing balconies are particularly good and its nice to be able to sit out on warmer days. Views across to Murren and beyond just jaw dropping. Rooms may not be huge but very comfortable and huge selection of TV channels. The hotel is located a short walk down the hill from the station which means its blissfully peaceful. In the mornings one can walk up the hill in ordinary boots to the main station or cable car (leave skis boots etc at Central Sport where they get free lockers if you hire skis there) or you can get a lift up in one of their minibuses. they also collect and take you to station on arrival/departure. Bar is bright and welcoming.
Wengen itself is chocolate box pretty and there are plenty of easy walks around the village which take you to the remoter hamlets around Wengen, as well as the mountain walks. Skiing is extensive and a full area pass includes Murren across the valley. Plenty of good intermediate runs generally with hardly anyone on them (very rare elsewhere these days). Some amazing off piste including plenty of gentler runs which are not far off the piste and great for learning on. Huge range of mountain restaurants from simple inns to full white table cloth and fine wines. Good for mixed groups with non skiers as great segregated winter walking paths to lovely restaurants next to ski runs. Also there is train to top of Europe so one could easily fill 4-5 days as a non skier with trips.
All in all a wonderful place that is run but such a really friendly and caring group of people.

I decided to stay in this hotel for 1 night (Sunday to Monday). I arrived in the morning and was able to leave my luggage there and went hiking. I came back at 5 pm and did the check-in.
At 7 a four-course dinner was served (available for an additional 20 chf, which is a bargain for Switzerland. Though the portions weren’t really big, it was enough, and really delicious. I was amazed at the service.
The breakfast served from 7:15 was a European buffet, with the possibility of having eggs and bacon.
The room was small, but comfortable. The only slight drawback is that all single rooms are in the north side, so not very sunny.
For this exceptional stay paid only 115 chf, reserving on the hotel site.

Perfect for family holiday. Staff always helpful and smiling. A warm welcome summer or winter, walking or skiing or just being in Wengen and in the Alpenrose.
Have just returned from a family gathering of 20 close family over Christmas. We were looked after with care and consideration. Hence we return return either alone, as a couple or a great family year after year. Sumptuous food, with a very wide choice.
One is collected at the railway station by helpful porters in the comfortable Alpenrose vehicle. (NB Do not use the Wegmuella taxis standing by the station, they are not a good advertisement for Wengen)

A friend of mine stayed at that hotel last week for three nights and I came to see him for a day. I had a look at his room and also the common areas and I was very pleased. Nice cozy atmosphere, beautiful view. So all set for a good review rating. However then one thing happened that I like to share here.

After a wonderful day outside in the snow and before I had to go back home to Zurich we wanted to have dinner. And before that we both liked to get out of our thick and warm winter sport clothes and have a quick shower. My friend offered me to use his bathroom but because there was only one towel we went to the reception and asked for a second one.

The reaction there was horrible. The lady first looked at me, then again at her reservation book and stated “the room is only booked for one person!” I confirmed that and told her that I will be leaving later but like to shower before going for their restaurant. In front of other guests she told me that this was an impertinent request to use her facility, as the room was only booked for one person. And she had never come across anything like that before. I must say that I felt very humiliated in that moment.

The wonderful mood we both experienced during that day in this magnificent surrounding unfortunately was gone. And needles to mention we decided to eat at another restaurant.

Honestly, if that’s what Swiss hospitality is like, I will recommend to all my friends to spend their time in the Austrian alps instead.

Dear avrosen Thank you for your review on TripAdvisor. It is a pity that you have not booked a room at our hotel like your friend did, then you would have been able to use all our facilities. The person on duty at the reception desk also is responsable for security and one of these duties is not to allow under any circumstances a person on the accommodation floors of the hotel who has neither booked a room in the hotel or checked in to the hotel. We thank you for your understanding. The Management Hotel Alpenrose Wengen

My family stayed at Chalet Erika for 5 nights. We were very impressed with the hotel grounds and the hotel staff. The scenery is beautiful and the hotel and Chalet are in the perfect spot.

The apartment is not modern by any means, I suppose this adds to the "rustic" charm. But, it could use some definite improvements while maintaining its rustic charm. The kitchen has no microwave and there are very few dishes. The skillets are all scratched, as are the cutting boards. We are very careful about what we cook on and did not use any of the skillets and only one semi decent cutting board. As much as it costs to stay at this property, I hope some of the money goes back into making the kitchen more usable for the self catering stays. There are newer apartments in Wengen for the same price that have completely furnished kitchens with high quality appliances and tools.

We loved Wengen and may be back; it will remain to be seen for us if the charm of the property and courteous staff sway us back or if we choose a more modern AIRBNB.

My husband and I celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary with a trip to Switzerland. I did extensive (I mean EXTENSIVE) research on this area in particular and I am so happy I not only landed on our lodging in Wengen but at the Alpenrose.

From the moment we checked-in, we were treated like family. Our room was on the second floor and was extremely clean and perfectly set up. The bathroom was newly renovated, the bed was very comfortable and at nights, was very quiet.

The breakfast is simply perfect. An assortment of breads, cheeses, meats, eggs and bacon, coffee and juices. The scrambled eggs were SO flavorful.

We only took advantage of their dinners on our last night of our stay - unfortunate for us!! It was absolutely delicious and so affordable. It was several courses, including a soup, veggie/salad, starter, meal with dessert and cheese. Surprisingly had a wonderful wine selection!!!

The manager/owner (I presume?) was always on-site and available. He was extremely pleasant, helpful and had a smile on his face. You can tell he truly takes pride in this place. All of the other employees were so friendly.

Trust me, you cannot miss this place when in this region! Alpenrose is beyond perfection!

We came here in the autumn for my boyfriend's birthday and returned toward the end of January for a three night stay / ski weekend.

Both stays were delightful. The hotel was pretty quiet for obvious reasons which meant that we got very personal service. The staff are all delightful, particularly the ladies that did the dinner service and the young man who greeted us at the station (whose names I've forgotten, but thank you). There is a free (currently on-demand, but not sure how it is in normal times) shuttle to and from the gondola and station. There's also a nice dog.

The food was excellent - definitely go half board, it's an amazing deal. I'm vegetarian and I was well catered for. All 5 courses of each dinner were amazing. Due to coronavirus, they're not running the breakfast buffet at the moment, but you order anything you want the evening before and are welcome to request more on the day. We didn't feel that we were missing out.

My boyfriend actually came here as a child and loved it, which is testament to its timeless charm. We hope to be back soon.

A short walk from the train station, your luggage is taken by car, and you come across this wonderful hotel, full of Swiss character and generosiity. This is only our second visit, our first was in 2004 when Ursula and her husband where the children and Mum and Dad ran the place. Now Ursula (the owner) can be seen every day as can her husband doing all the jobs around the hotel that bring them into contact with their guests who they are always happy to chat with. The rooms are 'Swiss' and very comfortable especially if you are lucky enough to have a room with one of those views of The Jungfrau. The day begins with a breakfast buffet, birchermuesli, fresh fruit salad, yogurts, cheeses, hams, bread of a good variety, eggs two ways and crispy bacon. Juices and hot drinks and also in plentiful supply. The day ends with a four course dinner not including cheese. It is a set menu and a carefully considered one which always has a vegetarian alternative. A starter and a salad, a main course often involving roast meat and carefully cooked potatoes and vegetables, a dessert followed by a good selection of cheese, biscuits and the Florentines others have spoken about.
Drinks can be had in the bar or lounges prior to or after dinner, wine is from a short list but with some good Swiss wines which need to be sampled. Coffee and tea after dinner is served but paid for. Tea in the late afernoon, perhaps in the grarden overlooking the Lauterbrunnen valley is available. The young lads who comprise the reception and bar staff are a delight to deal with, nothing is too much trouble.
We had a three generation family stay and loved it. Many guests are returning, some for in exces of 20 years, if you needed a recommendation then there it is.

We stayed here over the New Year as a celebration for my parents 50th wedding anniversary. I recommend this hotel without reservation. They were absolutely wonderful, going out of their way to make us feel comfortable and ensure we had all we needed for a great holiday. The food is really exceptional, particularly on New Years Eve with a four course dinner (if you wish) every night. The atmosphere is relaxed and homely, but special. Children are welcome but fit in without disturbing other guests. Rooms are exceptionally clean and comfortable without being flash. Try this hotel and you will have a wonderful holiday.

Firstly let me say that the staff at this hotel are always extremely polite and helpful. The view from our balcony was beautiful, this is a wonderful part of the world. The shuttle up to the village centre is really useful as it is a very steep walk. The food was generally very good and the service very good. The hotel itself does have some idiosyncrasies though. I asked if I could have some tea to take (if not sent) to my room. I was told that I could not take the drink to my room, Why not? They don't have tea and coffee making facilities in the room, I don't get it, who is the customer here? As someone else has mentioned, huge desert spoon to try and drink from a very small soup bowl. Eggs could be ordered for breakfast, don't bother with the fried sort. They are obviously cooked some time in advance, awful. I sometimes thought they were purposely discouraging anyone from having an evening drink as it was so difficult to find someone to serve. Our room was also awkwardly small, with bathroom and wardrobe doors constantly banging into each other. So it is a lovely place but these odd things take some of the gloss off. They might be viewed as charming by some but I found them a bit irritating.
Lovely people though.

I do not believe they are in the room, but I’m sure they can provide. Email the family owners Ursula or Daniel or give them a call. 7 hours ahead of central time. It’s a great family run hotel. Over 100 years. Very nice. Been going there off and on for years.
