I wish I could give a 4.5 because the negatives were minor and not deal-breakers for us: I will happily stay here again. But you might want to know that the bed is harder than Americans are used to, the heater makes a loud clicking...More

The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and
Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.

The Valparetto was about 16 Euros and was not a far walk at all from the hotel (the line from airport). The water taxis were pretty expensive from what I heard but can't recall a specific price. I had two luggage bags and it was very doable (If I recall correctly there was only one small "bridge"), it seemed to be a distance of about 2 blocks away. However, while the transportation was close, I'd recommend another hotel if you can rebook, the staff was really rude and I was uncomfortable there....

Hi Gina, catch the public ferry from Piazalle Roma to the ferry stop Maria del Goglio. You arrive at a street called Calle Gritt (very narrow lane way). Follow it all the way to the square and then turn left and go over a small canal bridge. You will pass a few shops and then come out into a square. Take the street in the top left of the square (as you are looking at the square) and head down that street - it is Calle Des Dose da Porte. Basically you are heading back down to the Grand Canal. Hotel Dragomani is on this street (on the left side) about 3/4 of the way towards the Grand Canal (the doors have a HD on them). Have a great time.
