Neighbourhood
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighbourhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.

The staff was friendly and the location was down a small alley off the market area and very near the Rialto Bridge. We came in a few days early before joining a tour and had a room that shared a bath with two others, but...More

We stayed at this lovely mom-and-pop type pensione as part of a Rick Steves tour. When we travel we like to go off the beaten path and why stay at a Hilton hotel in Venice that's the same as the one in New York? It's...More

We couldn't have asked for a better location. Right next to a vaparetto stop and the Rialto market. Tons of wonderful restaurants and shops nearby. Everyone was so helpful with my husband who is physically challenged. The owner met us at the water taxi stop...More
