UNAHotels Ala Venezia garners praise for its central location near Piazza San Marco and convenient airport access, making it a hit with guests who also appreciate the hotel's cleanliness and charming atmosphere. While the rooms are celebrated for their tidiness and comfort, some visitors find them a bit snug and lacking in daylight.
The hotel's amenities, including a satisfactory breakfast and clean facilities, are generally well-received, though limited bar hours have been noted. Service at the hotel is often lauded for staff helpfulness, contributing to the property's overall good value, despite some concerns over transportation costs.

Detailed Reviews
Stayed at Hotel Ala for 3 nights Friday-Monday in September. We booked via a travel councellor so had room only basis.
Was really pleased on arrival that the hotel was a couple of mins walk from the Alilaguna stop (San Marco) and they let us check in super early which was an added bonus so we could get freshened up and go and explore the sights.
The hotel is located just a couple of minutes walk from most of the key attractions and the Grand Canal.
Rooms were spacious and modern. The air con was great as was the safe in the room. The hotel provided 2 bottles of mineral water FOC.
Towels were changed daily and really could not fault the comfort of the beds.
We weren't fortunate to have a nice view from our room however if we returned we would ensure we booked a canal view. There were also a couple of mosquito plugs in the room which was useful, particularly if like me they seem to love you!
The bar area was great and the Moscow Mule cocktail with the two bar tenders is a must. We also got given discount vouchers for a restaurant nearby which we never managed to visit.
We found it quite difficult to locate places to eat breakfast so on the last day decided to eat in the hotel. It cost around 15 Euros per person. I was a little disappointed as there were long queues and one person serving (due to Covid restrictions) we hardly ate anything and had one small cup of tea in a small space. This is the only area I would say that the hotel could improve upon.
The chap on reception booked us a water taxi for our return journey back to Marco Polo airport which I would highly recommend. Was on time and such a fun way to end our trip.
Had a wonderful stay here and would definitely return on my next visit to Venice.

We stayed at the Hotel Ala in late October 2019 as part of our honeymoon. We were going on a cruise of the Adriatic so needed somewhere to stay for 3 days prior to getting on the ship. We wanted to see Venice before the cruise and decided to stay at the Hotel Ala simply by searching online and we certainly didn’t regret our decision.
The hotel is very easy to get to from the airport as you get on the water taxi and the hotel is literally 100 yards from the Santa Maria del Giglio pier. The hotel itself is beautiful and very welcoming. The bedroom we booked wasn’t huge but was still a decent size and our room had a balcony overlooking the canal so we could see the gondolas passing by. The restaurant was a decent size, had a complimentary buffet breakfast and had enough tables for everyone. I am coeliac so required gluten free food but this wasn’t an issue for the hotel in fact they even had their own basket of gluten free food, made up of bread, cakes & biscuits, which I always helped myself to every morning. Tarnowska’s American bar, located on the ground floor of the hotel, is fantastic. The bar staff were joining in with the dancing and really made you feel so welcome. We had a few good nights in there. The hotel is in a great location and is about a 10 minute walk from St Mark’s square.
The cruise was meant to be the most important part of our honeymoon but I can honestly say that the Hotel Ala made the first 3 days so memorable. Venice is such a beautiful city and we both can’t wait to return but when we do, we will definitely stay at the Hotel Ala again. I wouldn’t book any other hotel.

Hotel Ala is in a good location yards from the water stop in one of the many pleasant squares of Venice. We had a basic but friendly welcome at the reception, our bags taken to room 242 via stairs then a lift, initially room looks dark due to dark wooden furnishings but on opening the double doors to the small balcony overlooking the canal things looked a lot brighter & you could see the typical Venetian decorated room, whirlpool bath (make sure you run before using as on our 1st use it chucked out old scum initially) but great afterwards & very useful after a days trekking up & over the many bridges of Venice.
Note due to cv19 - the buffet b’fast is served & you take to your table, no rooftop space open, attached bar open fri/sat/sun only, no tea making in room.
Wouldn’t hesitate returning to this hotel as it’s a good base in a great location.

We both we’re a bit worried about going anywhere this year, but so glad we did! This hotel was a great find on Hotels.com, with a ten walk to San Marco, and Academia! It was very clean and well cleaned with antibacterial, there was hand gel everywhere, we felt very safe,(COVID-19)! The hotel itself is a two minute walk from the vapouretto stop which is great! Breakfast was good but, i think maybe a bit limited and you had to ask for meal, again due to COVID-19, but of very good quality! There is a bar. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. This trip was our second to Venice and I would definitely recommend this hotel as I would also our first one we stayed! Our room was slightly under equipped ( again Covid) there was no kettle etc, which was stated having one on the listing for hotel, but after asking about this, it was down to Covid-19! Our room 310 was over looking a small side canal and bridge! The room was very quiet and had good sound proof windows as I think maybe slightly loud outside, if the full quoted of visitors visited Venice
So, our overall thoughts on this hotel are, go, be happy there, as it’s very well cleaned everyday, staff very helpful and pleasant, I can not recommend it enough and we hopefully will return!

Excellent hotel in Venice - comfortably close to Vaporetto station (Giglio). The price of the overall stay was great - we booked directly through the hotel's website and got a reduced rate + free breakfast! The room itself was comfortable (window had a canal view) and was always cleaned and left in a neat state. Breakfast was perfect (you can get scrambled eggs, bacon, crossaints, muffins and more...)

So many good things about Hotel Ala.
The location is great, close to St Marks and Accademia. Once the Giglio jetty is back in operation it will be perfect. Unfortunately this is out of service until mid February but the hotel were right that it is an easy walk from San Marco (just a shame the blue line water bus takes nearly an hour and a half from the airport).
This was especially good for New Year's Eve where about 14 of us watched the fireworks from the jetties rather than suffering the crush in St Marks.
I'd booked a single room so was pleasantly surprised that the bed was double size. The room was obviously small as you would expect and just the one set of power points (so with phone, make-up and kettle all in one small space it was a bit chaotic).
There is a tiny safe and there was enough room for clothes etc.
I got a mug from the breakfast room as I don't want to drink from paper cups.
My room faced into a courtyard so was always pretty dark. If I went back I would probably 'splash out' and try for one looking over the Campo.
The front desk people were all very helpful. I also got very helpful replies to the enquries I sent before I travelled.
Tarnowska's Bar is great (subject to who is 'holding forth' in it).
The only down-side I found was the breakfast. I was there for 5 nights. On one morning I simply could not get a seat, on another there was so little food left I had just a cup of coffee. On the last morning they were late opening so I was rushed to get anything at all. It is generally crowded and with one exception the staff appear to hate both their jobs and their customers. There is one wonderful blonde lady who smiled and spoke every day but the others just made breakfast a miserable experience.
I will certainly look to stay at Ala again. I would look for a room with a view and I would also look for a room only deal but the location really is a winner.

The Hotel is ideally situated, as has been mentioned by many reviewers, in a quiet square. The Hotel is clean and tidy. Special mention here for our cleaning lady, always helpful and smiling. The room, although compact was very good. The only negative is the situation of the room on the first floor in the stairwell so some noise from residents returning late in the evening. The breakfast is excellent and certainly sets you up for the day exploring. We will certianly return again. One item which would increase an excellent rating is for the Front Desk guys to take a leaf out of the cleaning lady's attitude and smile! it does make a difference.

Stayed here last week for 4 nights in Venice. The rooms were perfect size for 2 people, breakfast was included if booked directly with the hotel. Location was fabulous, very quiet at night. The hotel has its own bar which was nice for a quiet drink after a busy day, although it was a bit pricey. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. We walked everywhere from this location and we used the Traghettos or bridges to cross the Grand Canal. We arrived by, much cheaper, waterbus (Alilaguna) and the hotel was literally 50 metres from the S Maria del Giglio stop.

My husband and I stayed here for one night and there isn't anything particularly outstanding about this hotel. It is nice enough and their breakfast is tasty. It was a little noisy but it did quiet down after about 9-10pm for sleeping hours. The room was nice and dark which made it optimal for sleeping.
The breakfast buffet was nice. You walk into the bar area where they greet you and ask you to sit. They then asked if we wanted anything to drink and showed us where the buffet was. I'm not sure if it is due to covid or if it is always this way but when getting our food they had a staff member put it on our plates for us. This I wasn't the biggest fan of as I felt like I couldn't load up on the food like I probably would've normally (it is a buffet after all). And it was hard to explain portions for things like yogurt and syrup for the pancakes. They did have maple syrup which was nice as I hadn't been able to find it for a while.
Upon check-in you will need to show your passports and your covid pass in order to be given your room. Also, be aware that if you book through a service like Priceline (we did) you will also need to pay the "city tax" upon check out. Which was 7 euros for us.
The hotel's location is good, with easy walking routes to all the tourist attractions and a ferry stop just down the street so you can visit the neighboring islands.
Our room wasn't anything to write home about as some of the photos look to be and we didn't have a view, but that didn't really matter. What's the point of a view when you could just go outside and view everything? It also had a bathtub in it so it was nice to relax after a long day of walking. They did also provide 2 complimentary bottles of water which was a nice perk. We did have the most basic of rooms so I assume with the more "superior" rooms you would have more of a unique experience.
Overall, it was a good experience and I wouldn't mind staying there again. The staff was friendly and helpful which is where it really counts.

This hotel is wonderful for a trip to Venice. Only 50 yards from a waterbus stop, which enables you to be delivered straight from the airport on the Alilaguna waterbus. Only 5 mins walk from St Mark's Square, and 15 mins walk from the Rialto, or you can buy a Vaporetto pass for 60 euros per week and go anywhere you want. I made full use of it, even a 1 hour trip to Burano was included. The hotel staff were courteous and helpful, the room was spotless although kettle/tea/coffee had been removed due to Covid. Breakfast was good, plenty of variety, had to be served at table though due to Covid. I had a couple of plumbing problems in my room which were speedily sorted. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel. It was bed and breakfast only. The restaurant outside is not part of the hotel and is not to be recommended.
