Artsy is the defining mood of this neighbourhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighbourhood to the east. Gondolas bob
in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbours exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.

Walking around Venice with bags/suitcases can be a challange because of the bridges with steps everywhere. The fastest and cheapest way to get to this hotel would be to take the airport bus to the main bus station, then get a water bus from there to San Basilio, the walk from there is short with no bridges on the way. Or a water taxi from the main station directly to the hotel would be a easier option, but will cost more.

There are plenty of great restaurants near the hotel but the ones on the main strip on the water are “touristy” restaurants and are pricey and doesn’t have the best food (ie authentic northern Italian cuisine) and the service isn’t the best. Having stayed in Venice 3-4 times now, I suggest you try finding little places in the backstreets which there are plenty of behind Palazzo Veneziano since it is the local Dorsoduro area (where locals live), and the food is cheaper and a more authentic experience is to be had together with friendly service.

The suit we were in had one double bed. If the shape and space of the suits are all similar it’s not likely that they have two double beds. But maybe give them a call. Booking dot kom gives most of the times a clear picture... More
