Detailed Reviews
Stayed here for 5 days with my girlfriend and a dog. They have accepted medium to large size dog, without any restrictions and offered a bigger room as free upgrade. Very friendly staff. Very good value for money. Would recommend to anyone looking for a hotel of this category.

2 star hotel located in the center of La Spezia. Very nice rooms, recently renovated with very comfortable beds. Very small bathroom and completely in need of renovation: it is difficult to move and when you take a shower the floor floods as there is only a curtain (which is also unhygienic) for protection. Very clean and quiet rooms. Very courteous staff. There are only 2 parking spaces reserved for the hotel on the street but these must be booked with the room if you want to avoid going crazy looking for parking. Breakfast is not served but there are numerous bars nearby

The hotel is well located
The reception is very friendly and ready to be of service and gives you all the necessary information, and speaks French.
The hotel is a little dilapidated with a slight musty smell in the common areas.
The room is small, with pleasant and modern decoration
On the other hand, the air conditioning is old and noisy; the bedding is not of quality; poorly soundproofed rooms; the shower is not large and complicated to adjust the temperature.
The room is equipped with a handy mini fridge.

Steer clear… the reality and the photos are so far apart. We booked a twin room and the beds were no wider than camp beds such that I fell out of bed when turning over in the night. Aircon didn’t work well. Staff were disinterested in customer service. And the bathroom was so tiny it was hard to move about in. Very very disappointing and poor value for money. If you are driving, don’t be fooled by the ‘paid on-street parking available’ sales pitch - the nearest we could find was 15 minutes’ walk away… sadly, I would not recommend

Hotel Birillo is a very good budget hotel that makes the best of what they have. The rooms and bathrooms are very tiny. The bed was clean. The location was excellent. They also provide free parking at the site. The only negative is the internet connection at the hotel. It was a reasonable stay for a few nights at Cinque Terre.

Time for renovation. An old and humid building with tiny rooms. The single room was literally a "half" room! Not to mention the bathroom... It was May and the heat was on, because of the humidity. The only advantage it is that is close to the city center. I think this hotel is overpriced.

Let me begin by saying that I may not have been careful enough in booking this hotel. We generally stay in a slightly better quality, so maybe I fell for the cheaper price and didn't realize I was heading downmarket from where we usually stay. I also fell like the owners/management are trying so hard and are so lovely, that no one wants to write anything negative, which is not helpful to those of us relying on other reviews.
Pros: The people who work there are lovely and helpful. The location is convenient-about a ten minute walk to the train station, and even less to the harbor. The rooms are clean.
Cons: The rooms, while renovated, were cold in temperature, and somewhat sterile in decor. As everyone said, the bathrooms are tiny, but I don't think I appreciated what that meant--There was not even a toilet paper holder, so the towel rack was used to hold toilet paper, and the towels were in baskets in the room. There were little packets of shampoo and wash, but in the shower there was nothing to put them on, not even a little shelf. I couldn't sit straight on the toilet, and my 6'3" husband had to sit completely sideways. While the rooms had been redone, the hallways had not, and really could use an upgrade. The biggest problem was the noise. I am a very sound sleeper, but the first night we were there I was woken six or seven times by doors closing loudly, and people talking. There are no carpets in the rooms, and not much soundproofing.
Lastly, everyone said how this was the best breakfast they had in Italy. Yes, the pastries were delicious, which is great if you just want sweets for breakfast. There was good ham and cheese, as well as hard boiled eggs one morning. The second morning there were cheese filled omeletes, but as there is no provision for warming food, they were cold, and that really didn't work..
So, if you are looking for a relatively inexpensive place to stay, conveniently located, with lovely people running it, this is the place for you, but I am sorry to say I would not go back.

Hello, we're sorry if you're stay was not perfect. Of course we try our best and we keep on trying to renovate and improove everyday but of course we cannot satisfy everybody. People are different with different tastes and sometimes reading good reviews made you believe that everything could be perfect for everybody. Be careful when you book and read read everything, because most of the time people complain about things that every little website shows Thank you anyway

I stayed at this hotel for 6 nights with some friends.Upon arriving in my room I thought my review was going to be a bad one. Soo many things I could criticize but the generosity and friendliness of Sara and her husband (forgot his name) put all the little defects into the background.
I had a single occupancy double room and could never imagine me sharing this small space. Then again hotel rooms in Italy are generally small. Most importantly it was clean and the breakfast delicious. My room was overlooking the courtyard and when I awoke every morning I could smell something baking for breakfast.
We chose this hotel for it's proximity to the Cinque Terre and other trips in the area. Hotel Birillo is very centrally located and La Spezia is wonderful for bus, train and boat connections.
I would definitely stay there again (now that I know it!!!)

We used this hotel and La Spezia for a brief visit to Cinque Terre and spent 2 nights here. The Front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. However, for people with large suitcases, you should be aware that there is no elevator so you have to lug your suitcases up a flight of stairs to the room. The room was fairly spacious and clean. The bathroom can only be described as a quirky afterthought. It was long and very narrow and just adequate but clean. The included breakfast was very good. The location was very good about 2 or 3 blocks from the main walking street and about 10-15 minute walk to the train station which takes you to the Cinque Terre.
I would recommend this hotel for stays in this area but warn people that the bathroom takes a little getting used to.

The hotel is well located it is indeed about 10 minutes walk between the station and the hotel and a similar distance to the harbour. The hotel is located in a fairly quiet street.
The hotel is not especially expensive for the area and this is reflected in the fact that the rooms and particular bathrooms are quite small. However they are comfortable and well kept and have everything you need, in fact my room also had a balcony overlooking the side-street which was nice. The Wifi is free and worked fine in the room.
The breakfast is also very good and I think is served from 7am to 10am in a room on the ground floor. There is a very good choice of both savoury and sweet food and the staff serve tea or coffee. The staff are friendly and welcoming.
The only negative I had is that it can be quite noisy inside, and this is why I have rated 4 rather than 5. The rooms and corridors do not have carpets, so you hear everyone walking past, talking, slamming doors etc very clearly and the walls are also very thin so you can here the people in the neighbouring rooms quite easily too. Thankfully the people in the rooms either side of mine were not too noisy through the night but it was quite noisy for a while in the evening. Also took me a while to find the light switch in the corridors, as the lights turn off after a few seconds.
Overall however this is a pretty good choice for the money I think.

Hello, by taxy the cost should around 8-12 euros.
People usually come here walking , it's 10-15 minutes walking the pedestrian street in the city center
Hello,
we have just 2 parking spots in front of the hotel ( on the street ).
We give it for free but just on reservation
Hello, we don't but there's an automatic laundry nearby...and many traditional laundries
I think so the staff and owners are very friendly and accommodating. Dogs are welcome in many hotels across Europe.
