The Grand Hotel Savoia garners positive attention for its spotless rooms and grand atmosphere that blends historic charm with modern touches, as noted by numerous guests. While the professional and friendly service is often commended, some visitors have encountered slower service and isolated unprofessionalism.
Opinions on the hotel's value and amenities are split; some guests feel the cost is justified by the luxurious experience, others are left wanting more, especially when faced with spa shortcomings and occasionally closed facilities. Room experiences also vary, with some praising the quiet, modern amenities and others pointing out issues with size and upkeep.

Detailed Reviews
I summarised it well in the review title. There's nothing negative about this hotel. From the location, staff, amenities and foods.Everything is perfect! It's a 5 star hotel & quite posh! You have a pianist playing piano every evening in the lounge next to the bar area which very pleasant, relaxing and entertaining. I can't compliment the staff enough -they are friendly, very helpful and accommodative. We had to cancel our breakfast on our last day because we woke up late and got to rush to the airport. I called them at 8am and the staff at the reception happily to remove it as per request. I used the gym which is clean, new equipments and just good size. Check the photos and videos. The room is clean, quite posh and the bed is comfortable. The housekeeping never forget to provide the toiletries and a complimentary water bottle. They have turndown service every evening which very useful. I would definitely stay at this hotel again! Love everything about this hotel. I wish we stayed more than 4 days :)

We originally booked a room in the nearby Hotel Continental, because we liked the Continental's modernized and nicely designed rooms. Arriving at the hotel, we were told to check in in the Grand Hotel Savoia. We did not know why the modernized Hotel we booked was not available. The room we got in the Grand Hotel Savoia was in the second floor, pretty small, and dark. Definitely not the modernized, friendly room we expected in the Hotel Continental. Nevertheless, the room we got was super clean and had a nice bath room and good wi-fi. Mattresses were excellent. Staf at the reception was competent and friendly. What we found a bit strange was the room service: they did not refill the mini bar every day, nor did they bring a new bottle of free water or toilet paper (on Tuesday and Thursday service was excelent, on Wednesday and Friday not that good). In sum, Grand Hotel Savoia is a good choice, its location is great. However, when I book a room in one hotel, I do not like to be transferred to another. Be it grand or not.

The Grand Hotel Savoia is a lovely historic property a stone’s throw from Genoa’s Piazza Principe Station, a short walk from most of the main sights of the city and right by shops and restaurants. The room we were given had good air conditioning, a strong Wi-Fi, a huge TV with hundreds of Italian and international channels. The bathroom was small but had an excellent shower/bath, albeit with a large step out of it that could be tricky for some people. The room was also provided with free water, a minibar, safe, robe and slippers. The only major annoyance about the room was that there were no drawers or shelves to store anything. There was an open wardrobe with hangers, but other than that nothing, so I had to just keep things in my bag. The bed was very comfortable and there was no issue with noise. The two best things about the hotel were the breakfast, which not only had a wide range of food (pastries, cereal, cheese, fruit, cold meat, hot choices etc.), excellent service but also a fantastic view across the whole of Genoa from the outside terrace. Sdaly we didn’t have this view from our room, just a courtyard. The second excellent thing was that you can borrow a mobile Wi-Fi router from Reception at no extra cost which is a genius idea and one I haven’t come across before. All hotels should follow it. It means that you don’t have to constantly look for networks as you explore or worry about signal coverage or roaming charges. It made our stay even more leisurely and enjoyable. Mi Yang and Giacomo in Reception are very good (they explained about the city, about how the rourter worked etc.) but the other reception staff although keen to help and pleasant don’t explain things to any great extent or anticipate what the client wants. Any example of this is when we checked in we went up to the room to find housekeeping in the room, despite it being comfortably past check in time. My wife returned to Reception to let them know we couldn’t access the room to see if we should wait or if they would allocate us another room, instead they insisted the room was ready, despite all evidence to the contrary. The housekeeping was good, although for some reason a cage of sheets was left in our corridor during our stay rather than the housekeeping cupboard. Overall, though, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the router and view alone made it worth staying.

Great location next to one of the major train stations. Most restaurants and the old town are a 15-20 min walk away. The staff was helpful and service minded, except for the service on the rooftop which was frustratingly indifferent to customers waiting to order. The jacuzzis on the rooftop are 4-people bathtubs with too warm water. Would be nicer with colder water for a cool down during summer.
On the first night, we had a neighbor who for some reason maxed the volume on the TV at 1am. It took some time to figure out where the noise came from but once we called the front desk, the issue was sorted very quickly by the staff. There are several annoying disturbances during night: at the fifth floor there were sounds either from the plumbing or the elevator that were quite loud. Also, the fire alarm in the middle of the ceiling is constantly flashing a red light right above the bed.
The breakfast buffé is great but due to COVID restrictions we were not allowed to get our own food and the staff doing it did not know English very well so we gave up and just pointed at a few things. Not worth the cost.
The garages are nearby and we had no issue getting a spot.

We pulled up to the hotel from a busy, ugly road and were a little worried about what we might find inside.
Oh my! This hotel is a gem! It is an historic building that is beautifully maintained and staffed by friendly, gracious people.
Our room was the most basic, a Classic Queen, but it was spacious and had everything we could possibly need. There were tea and coffee making facilities, a safe and a fridge. The bed was comfortable and the sheets and bedding of a high standard.
The bathroom was lovely and had good quality towels and bathing supplies. The lighting was good and there was a large, magnifying mirror.
The public spaces were magnificent. There were several gorgeous rooms in which to sit and have a drink and the breakfast room was light and lovely. The breakfast itself was delicious (a large buffet and an omelet option) and the staff attentive and helpful.
Thank you to all of the staff for a memorable and delightful stay!

The hotel does not deserve it's 5 stars due to the spa being g super small and expensive for what it is. Moreover we had a room where the TV and mini bar were not working and we realised this once we unpacked so we couldn't be bothered changing room. Due to Covid breakfast was served by the staff and we felt rushed to make our choice but had to wait every 3 mornings ages to have our coffees. Most shocking experience was dinner on our last night. We decided to eat at the restaurant. Had to wait 20 mins to have the menu. No amuse bouché, no kids menu but the manager agreed to do some chicken for my son. Our dishes arrived.. the food was super bland. Then the chicken was served .. inedible as it was over cooked. We sent back the chicken. It came back even worse. I was super upset as when you go to this type of restaurants and pricing you expect top food. I am not that type of angry person who uses the platform to trash ( as if you read my reviews I am super fair ), but honestly I was very upset and I left the table and went back to my room crying . The manager acknowledged to my husband the issues so fair to him but it was traumatising. One good thing though: a lady named Mounia who was serving at breakfast. A superstar, very polite, very engaging and caring. A gem another hotel should hire!

+1
This is NOT 5 star by any stretch of the imagination- definitely not by English standards.
I was told there were no rooms although online there were rooms. I was told to wait for the manager as I would get a discounted rate.
The manager was super unfriendly & in my opinion - unprofessional & offered me no discounted rate.
I arrived early without a booking but was assured there was a room & I needed to come back. I therefore asked if I could leave my luggage there. No said the receptionist in a 5* hotel. Drag your 40kg of suitcases & cross all these major roads & ask at the station if there’s somewhere u can leave your bags. Can u imagine the receptionist at the Savoy in London doing this?
Anyway finally they allowed me to sit in the hall, I told the lady I had not slept a wink the night before & I had not eaten for over 24 hours. You would think I would get offered a glass of water or tea while I am waiting but no such courtesy,
They gave me a room for 2 nights out of the 21 nights I needed & said they would review it tomorrow.
The effect of this is restlessness & the inability to unpack 40 kg of luggage.
The staff in my opinion apart from the lady that cleaned my room & the gent from room service / are unfriendly unwelcoming unkind & possibly discriminatory because I can clearly see there are rooms online but in person they refused to confirm my 21 day booking.
The room- telly doesn’t work, lights come on & off sporadically. There was no kettle, I asked for one, there were no mugs I had to go downstairs to get one.
I have solo travelled round the world & stayed at 5 or 4 star hotels. I would normally stay at a Hilton or grand Hyatt but the Hilton is 54km away. Based on my worldwide travel & LONG stays in 4 & 5 star hotels I can honestly say this is the worst experience I’ve ever had.. the staff is definitely extremely unfriendly.
The reviews I read are completely different from my experience so I can only deduce from this that their ill treatment of me could be based on my colour & my single female status.
I disagree with the reviews & I do not recommend this hotel.
I want to know who awards stars & on what basis this is awarded 5 stars. That’s a joke.

My friend and I stayed here for 4 nights in July.
Upon entering the hotel it appears very grand and traditional. The receptionist who checked us in was great, we had booked a room with a double bed but upgraded us to a room with two beds and despite arriving a couple of hours before check in our room was ready.
The rooms are just as shown on the website and they were clean, our bathroom was massive.
We were really excited about the rooftop hot tubs and the spa. Although the hot tubs were nice and had good views, you have to walk through the restaurant to reach them which is not ideal. Also the photos fail to show that the hot tubs share the same terrace as the restaurant so people are having their lunch etc which wasn’t the best. Whilst we were there, there was only ever one bar staff meaning we had to wait a while to order and receive drinks.
The first day we booked the spa for as soon as it opened and had it to ourselves, which was perfect it was really clean and just a great experience. However, on the last day we went the spa later and other people had finished their sessions and it wasn’t the same. The spa doesn’t get cleaned in between sessions and just small things like the robes not being replaced and disposable cups not being disposed of let it down.
We also ate at the rooftop restaurant which did not live up to expectations. We sat outside which was perfect the view was amazing. The octopus salad was gorgeous, but the flan was just alright. For main courses we got the purple shrimp pasta and rack of lamb and neither were very good, the rack of lamb was more like lamb chops. The service was very good though and the drinks were nice.
We had breakfast in the hotel once and sat outside. The restaurant didn’t have the best layout, so the tables inside have people constantly walking past and just getting in the way and it felt cramped. There was a wide variety of food and I would recommend the breakfast.
On our 2nd night we had an issue with our safe not working and reception sent a repairman but he couldn’t fix it. We had to ask the hotel if they had any security boxes, ideally as soon as we told them about our safe they should have suggested this option.
Overall, the hotel was nice and in a great location, I don’t think it is a true 5* hotel.

I am settling on a 3 star review mainly due to the refund I received otherwise I would have rated this 2 stars. I booked the Presidential Suite to celebrate a 65th birthday. The room itself was beautiful with amazing sunset views with electric room darkening blinds, three large smart TV's, separate living area and 2 full bathrooms. The location is convenient and steps from one of the main train stations.
The bad:
I have booked suites before and was surprised there was no welcome gift or cocktail. My next surprise was to find a very used coffee station complete with the crumbs from someone's breakfast. The shower was clogged and didn't drain. Next was the TV in the bedroom didn't work. Then to find the smart TV's were all blocked from using the network aspect so no ability to login to Netflix. Your only option was YouTube if you had a TV account. No English channels except for BBC and CNN. The ability to change the language and subtitles were also blocked but they did unblock for me so I could change that feature. The coffee station is in the dining room while the tea station is in the bedroom. I tried to relocate the tea kettle but it required pulling out the furniture. I requested an extra tea kettle and I was told I had one, after explaining the situation three times, I pulled out the furniture, unplugged the kettle and relocated it myself. They did finally bring me a kettle but after two mornings of inconvenience, I was forced to resolve on my own. Lastly and what completely ruined the stay was the daily deactivation of my room key which is used to operate the lights. It is not just a card insert, it has a chip and the chip must be active for the card to engage the lights. Each evening usually after 9:00 pm, the card deactivated. Understood the first time, completely unacceptable the additional evenings. When I asked what the problem was, they said there was an issue with the controller but at no time did they take any proactive steps to to minimize my inconvenience. This meant each evening, I was suddenly in the dark and had to wait for resolution. The staff did try to resolve all of my issues but unfortunately, the service level was not reflective of a 5 star hotel and my special surprise was ruined for this 65th birthday celebration.
I did stay in close communication with the hotel staff about the continuing issues that kept occurring. I was surprised I never heard from the hotel manager and on the day before my departure, I did ask to speak to the manager and we communicated via email for about a week until an acceptable resolution was agreed upon.
I do recommend this hotel as I'm sure the standard rooms are wonderful but I would not recommend the presidential suite for a special occasion, sadly the service levels are just not there.

We only had a brief stay at the hotel, following a cruise which terminated at Genoa, and we chose the Savoia based on location and facilities. It is just by the prinicipal train station in Genoa, so is ideally situated for those arrving by train. Equally, it is also only a few minutes walk from the cruise terminal. If you want to explore Genoa then most landmarks are within easy walking distance (there is also a subway station nearby). The hotel has bags of character, with many of the original features still intact, and the welcome drink we were offered gave us some time to enjoy the elegant bar/lounge area. There is also a public area on the floor above reception, and this had a pleasant open-air terrace which overlooks the front of the hotel (smoking is allowed on the terrace). The spa facilities were also included in our tariff, and this was a really nice way to lose an hour or so relaxing in the sauna/steam-room/jacuzzi. The rooms were pleasant, with furnishings reflecting the age & style of the building. Massive TV in the room, with loads of channels (a few of which were in English). Only regrets are that we didn't check out the rooftop terrace, we didn't have time for breakfast, and we didn't stay a little longer. We have stayed in a few hotels in Genoa, but I think that it will be the Savoia for us from now on.

Hello,
thank you for your question, the difference in size and view, executive rooms are bigger than standard and they face the front of the house, with a view. in addittion if you book an executive room you have free entrance at the SPA. So it's good value for money.
Looking forward to hear form you.
Kindest regards
Fortunato
They have a fabulous breakfast buffet but I dont think it starts until 6am. I cant recall if there were any nearby cafe's.
Hello Susan,
I am very sorry for the delay, all executive rooms have a Port view, few of them have balcony,
