My wife and I are from India and we were on our dream vacation in Europe. Having heard a lot about Cinque terre we wanted to spend two nights - I so wish we had spent a whole week in the 5 terres!! Its been two years and I have been missing this place a lot, so came back to write about it.

A lot has been written about the nice location, the quaint charming village and the people who run this place, but I wanted to share our personal experience..

Yes, the location is a bit hard to reach and we took a cab from one La spezia, but no worries around that. Volastra is a quaint village and the B&B is located at a nice location with stunning views of the ocean.. The food was exquisite and we really relished the hot, fresh breakfast and were introduced to how a real traditional Italian breakfast should and would be. (Ohh, the hot Foccacia, simply the best I've ever tasted!!!). Also the walkway that starts right outside Niria is a great walk and a great way to reach the 5 terres..

However, what we really liked was the way Niria family treated us as their guests truly. Monica and Andre were really great hosts, even though we couldn't understand each other much. On the day of departure we had an early train and he dropped us to the town in his car. It reminded me of the hospitality we Indians are famous for and I truly felt like we were staying with very close relatives in our family.. I don't know if the gratitude we expressed was understood!

If we go back, we'll definitely stay here and longer than two nights..

Staying here was a wonderfully relaxing beginning to my 12-day trip to Italy. I stayed at NiRia for three nights. The room was very nice, the bed was comfortable, there was a kitchen for common use, the room had air conditioning, there was free WiFi, and it is very quiet. What makes NiRia exceptional, however, is the kind family that runs it. I truly felt like I was being taken care of. When I arrived in the evening after the buses had quit running, Mattia picked me up at parking area in Manarola. He even offered to pick me up later if I wanted to stop at a restaurant and have dinner first. The breakfast was served by the garden, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea - with plentiful rolls, fresh baked goods, yogurt, and cappuccino, refilled upon request. Each morning, I was offered a plastic bag to take whatever I had not eaten on my hikes. The first night I returned from hiking, the family appeared very concerned when they saw I was limping slightly (my form wasn't so good the first day of hiking, but improved the second day). The second evening, after I came back from dinner, and they saw me sitting by the garden, watching the sunset and the Sea, they brought me cappuccino and a limoncello. To top everything off, on the morning I was leaving, I started to pay the bill, and the family insisted I pay a slightly lower rate than what I was anticipating, so that was a very nice surprise. Other reviews have mentioned a bit of a damp smell in the room - I noticed this at first (but got used to it quickly), and it wasn't a big deal for me, because everything else positive outweighed the experience to such a degree. I was able to hike between most of the larger towns; there also are nice hiking trails through Volastra, including the panoramic trail (6p) to Manarola that was very convenient. There also are a couple of local family run restaurants in Volastra that I tried. In Volastra, you are a bit removed (higher up the mountain) from some of the busier towns of Cinque Terre, but its close enough to be convenient, and of course, its very relaxing. If I travel back to Italy, and I suspect I will, this will be one of the places I make sure that I re-visit.

I stayed three nights at Niria, it was truly a wonderful experience. This is hands down one of the best places I have ever stayed in my travels. The hosts are so kind and welcoming, making this family owned B and B a comforting place to stay when you are far from home. I was able to get a ride from Mattia from the train station, as my train arrived late, as well as reservations for dinner at a nearby restaurant. Franca and Andre (the hosts) took extra care in helping me plan my hikes for the day. My room was cleaned every day and special touches (such as putting my socks on the radiator to dry) made me feel so happy and welcome! The property itself is very quiet and beautiful, my room was decorated cutely and was immaculate.

The location also makes it easy to access the other villages in the area and several hiking trails begin very close by. NiRia is especially perfect if you are looking for a quiet place to stay, away from the crowded tourist parts of the area.

I loved this place and will return if I am lucky enough to travel to Cinque Terre again in the future!

First of all, we must succeed in entering... challenge!! As there is no one to welcome you you have to fill out a form sent by what’sapp crossing your fingers so that there is network, then you have to be able to park the car, if the other tenants are nice and park properly (which was not our case) the top parking shot but forbidden to tourists, and yes to the five lands we want your money but come by train, in short ... 32 € in fines. Then comes the entrance to the room, cold, humid and no access to heating , ah if the reversible air conditioner that certainly starts with diesel oil in view of the noise.
Go for a small shower to relax, well no, loose shower head, toilet glasses broken etc...
Finally, please note that this is a pseudo-host house and not a Pension
Overnight stay at 230€ counting the parking lot of the...

After reading all the glowing reviews, I was very excited to experience NiRia. However, my excitement turned to disappointment after my reservation was not honoured. I received an email from the B&B advising of availability for the date I needed. I immediately (within a 1/2 hour) confirmed my booking.
Then 6 days later, I received another email advising there was no availability! I should note that the B&B offered 2 days availability, but I only booked one. Well, I can guess what happened... they got a better booking, so cancelled mine. When I emailed asking why the change, there was no reply. That left me stuck traveling in Europe already, and scrambling to make a last minute reservation - not the way anyone should be treated and very unprofessional.
So,,, think twice before booking here.

We had THE best time at NiRia! This is the most generous, welcoming and friendly family you could hope to meet. The accommodation was beautiful; the rooms were large, incredibly clean and very comfortable. Having the most incredible breakfast overlooking the sea every morning from their terrace was the best start to each day you could possibly have. And we ended the day the same way, watching the ocean and sunset. We loved being up the hill in Volastra above Manarola, it was no problem at all to catch the shuttle bus up. The walks from Volastra down to either Manarola or Corniglia are both easy and beautiful.
Volastra is a lovely, peaceful village and we cannot speak highly enough of our stay at NiRia.
We'll definitely be back!

The place is up the hill from Manarola with an excellent trail leading up to it and another glorious vineyard walk to Corniglia. Exceptionally quiet at night, awesome views, beautiful rooms. The owners treated us like family. Excellent breakfast service with homemade bread. Absolutely loved staying there and was sad to have to move on.

We stayed in Niria for 2 nights and the hotel was wonderful. The car park was conveniently included in the price and the short bus ride took us down to Manarola.
The Lady at the hotel was super helpful, fresh pain au chocolat in the morning and a surprise Prosecco for my birthday. Her English is not so good, but we really enjoyed listening some Italian while there (although we did not understand her much) :).
Do not worry if you miss the last bus from Manarola to Volastra. You can also take a 45 minutes walk back up. Besides nice scenery and olive trees, you might spot hundreds of fireflies when the sun has set.
So I would definitely recommend Niria. It's a very cozy and lovely place.

After an adrenaline charged drive on minor roads hanging off the cliffside (we could have taken the main road from La Specia), Niria at Volastra was a welcome sight. So relaxing, we truly appreciated the quiet nights after walking the amazing scenic steep pathway down to busy Manorola (every day). A private airy spotless room and large bathroom, the bed was heaven. Breakfast was satisfying and relaxing, overlooking the calm blue sea from the terrace. The shower was wonderful after a long climb up at the end of the day, lots of water pressure..heaven. Internet access was excellent. There is a bus :) We received great advice on bus, train and boat, where to eat and places to visit as well as some timely help in booking the next leg of our journey.
Walking these ancient pathways, watching the farmers travel down to work in the early morning on their monorails, realising the incredible amount of work it took to carve out the terraces and produce highly sought after wines and the productivity of every garden you walk past, this is a working community. It has been very special to be here for these few days.

Monica and Andre are terrific hosts, making you feel so welcome. The setting is lovely, with a serene garden to enjoy a tasty breakfast, facing the water. We were three couples and especially enjoyed the comfortable, spacious rooms after exploring Cinque Terre. The bathrooms and bedrooms were well equipped and squeaky clean. When we needed suggestions for dinner, they were always able to supply excellent recommendations as well as making the reservations for us. When we enquired about any tours, trains etc. they always helped, with a big smile. The shuttle bus down to the water is very convenient, since the parking is almost non-existent.
Loved our stay and would recommend it.
