My wife and I just returned from an epic Italian trip in late September, which included three days in Cinque Terre. I have two observations to make about the time we spent in the area. First, of the five villages which comprise CT, Monterosso is the place to stay. Second, we couldn't have been more pleased with La Colonnina. The staff was very kind, generous and helpful (special kudos to the woman who makes the morning cappuccino - she is an artist). The rooms are large and quiet and the location is convenient to the trailhead for the Blue Trail to Vernazza. But most of all, the rooftop terrace views are outstanding. When you open that bottle of prosecco while overlooking the Ligurian Sea, you will think you have died and gone to Heaven.

We had an amazing stay in La Colonnina. The building is very close to the sea and in those times of covid they even have booking to make sure you have a space. The room was impeccable with a nice Terrasse overlooking the cjty. Breakfast was very good too and staff went the extra mile to accommodate us and our kid. They are expanding the hotel and the garden. Would definitely come back!

We had a wonderful 3 night stay in this little gem of a hotel in the bustling town of Monterosso . It’s tucked away 1/2 block from the main square . The rooms are beautifully appointed and the breakfast is fresh with numerous assortments . If you arrive by car ..call in advance and they will secure parking for €18 per day . We had the attendant call us a taxi and they drop us off a 1/2 blk away .
The hotel has an elevator but there are steps to get into the hotel ..they will help you with your luggage .
There is a lovely rooftop terrace ..and most rooms come with balconies. The staff is warm and engaging..we loved Monterosso and if we ever came back we wouldn’t hesitate to book again!

We arrived at Hotel la Colonnina and were greeted immediately by one of the front desk staff who requested to take my passport to the back to register it. I asked to keep the passport at the front desk at least in my sight and the woman was immediately offended (And for our entire stay she would glare at me each time I passed the front desk in spite of my fond greetings) The other front staff were very kind and gracious. We were then served a lovely lemon cake and lemonade on the outdoor terrace before heading to our room.
The hotel itself is very conveniently located near the main square of old Monterosso and the beach. Also, close to bars, restaurants and shops. The breakfast buffet each morning was delightful. The women preparing and serving were so gracious and very proud of the wonderful cakes they had made fresh each day. The house cleaning staff were kind and gracious. The room itself was small but clean. The bed blankets/linens very minimalist, but adequate. The bathroom was clean (yet quite a bit of mold in the shower). The stay was fine.
I wish them well and believe it could be excellent with a few changes. However, I wouldn’t want to mislead anyone by giving it an excellent ranking, like I’ve seen on Trip Advisor.

My husband and I, along with another couple stayed at this hotel. It is a simple hotel yet very special. Clean, with a very friendly and helpful staff. The hotel is located in a great area in the north end of Cinque Terre, Italy. The hotel is close to the small town and is within easy walking distance to the local train. We hiked one afternoon from Hotel la Colonnina to the town just south of Monterossa called Vernazza. It was a gorgeous, breath-taking hike. The trail ran high up and along the coast. When we got to Vernazza we relaxed with a drink at an outdoor restaurant on the water and then had dinner. After dinner we took the local train back to Monterossa. It was a very special time in Cinque Terre....wish we could have stayed there longer.
Note: We were practically the only hikers that day (late October). We hear that the trails get very crowded during high season. Try to go in the fall when the temperatures are mild and the crowds are gone!

We are a family of 8 adults and had the great fortune to stay at the Hotel La Colonnina for several nights. The hotel is beautiful and extremely comfortable. Our rooms were spacious and spotlessly clean and we really enjoyed our private patio, the terrace on the roof and the garden courtyard. The staff were amazing and eager to help. The breakfasts offered a wide selection including fresh fruits and cakes. We really loved the the pear and chocolate cake. We highly recommend Hotel La Colonnina and will definitely stay there again.

A nice little hotel, with great staff that want you to have a good time.

Staff are more than willing to recommend & reserve restaurants and bring drinks from the bar to your room - some of which have a nice big terrace with sun loungers.

The hotel is accredited to an eco tourism scheme, so can issue heavily discounted tickets for the Cinque Terra hiking routes and for the trains.

There’s a large roof terrace, well equipped with sun loungers.

We had walked from Levanto to here and it was so lovely to be welcomed with a refreshing lemon drink made from lemons from the garden and a little dish of fruit salad which we ate outside in the little garden area. Staff were extremely helpful chasing our luggage which hadn't turned up and providing discounted Cinque Terre cards.
Our room had a lovely balcony, though there was no shade, with distant sea views through the buildings. There was also a roof top terrace. Our room was large and the decor had more than a touch of interior design. Sadly there was nowhere to have breakfast outside and the room hadn't been updated like the bedrooms.

We checked in to our room and there was a very bad mildew smell (think wet socks) in our room. I complained and the hostess came to smell the room. She gave some excuses, but said there was nothing else available. The next day I complained again and they found a room for me that didn't smell in the room but did in the bathroom.

Beds were adequate, but the towels felt like sandpaper. The shower was also VERY small (but I guess that didn't make much a difference since I wanted to get out as soon as possible because of the smell).

Some of the positives... The location was good, service was friendly, there's no noise from the outside, and there's a beautiful patio and rooftop (nice view of the sea from the rooftop).

Breakfast looked very good (I have dietary restrictions so couldn't eat it).

I will not be returning.

Loved, loved, our stay at La Colonnina Hotel in Monterosso. We stayed 3 nights mid-September, and wish we had stayed longer! So glad we opted for our 3 nights, 4 full days while enjoying all of the 5 towns in Cinque Terre at this lovely boutique hotel. A large buffet breakfast was served in their breakfast room, and it was the perfect start to the day. One can also relax on the front patio or above on their small rooftop terrace with some wonderful views. Our room had a private patio which was especially nice. This charming hotel is a short, easy walk from the waterfront. Quietly situated on a side street. Oh, especially wonderful was Antiana who was the greeter of all who enter, she manned the front desk, poured our drinks from the tiny little bar, answered our many questions, etc., etc., and was soooo delightful in chatting with our entire stay. Our stay at La Colonnina Hotel was the perfect ending to our 17 day Italy vacation. When we revisit Cinque Terre we will definitely make this hotel our home base again. Thank you La Colonnina Hotel, Antiana and staff! Tom & Michele from Boston.
