Detailed Reviews
We stayed for 4 nights in this lovely hotel. We were greeted by Gabriel who gave us lots of information about the area, recommendations on places to eat and carried our cases up to the top floor. The room had a lovely balcony with stunning views looking out to the sea and right in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the street. The room/hotel could not have been cleaner, breakfast was very generous with fruit, boiled eggs, cakes. Gabriel was very attentive , hard working and friendly ,always ready to help. We will be definitely be staying at this hotel again.

This was not my first time to the Cinque Terre, but it was my first staying in Monterosso. Vernazza was just too small to handle the day tripping crowds that gather starting at about noon, and Monterosso is a bit bigger with a little bit more to offer. We settled on Hotel Stella della Marina based on the reviews, and because it was easy to get to from the train station. What a good choice! We arrived by train La Spezia (if you can get the train direct to Monterosso from Pisa, I'd recommend it - the CT train was packed), and the line for a taxi was pretty long. A quick email to hotel proprietor Gabriele (the Magician), and a taxi was there for us in less than 5 minutes. The hotel is close to the waterfront in the Old Town and on a small quiet street.
Gabriele, was absolutely the best host we experienced on this trip, and we don't say that lightly having stayed in some lovely hotels in several locations! He met us at the door, checked us in, ran our suitcases up the three flights of stairs to our room, made great recommendations dinner reservations for us (don’t miss Da Eraldo, L'Ancora della Tortuga, and wine tasting at Enoteca Internzionale), gave us helpful tips, accurately predicted the weather every day, served a wonderful buffet breakfast (complete with perfect cappuccino), and made all of his guests feel special. He was personable, helpful and thorough, and we felt like we were leaving a friends' home when we had to go.
We had two rooms - both quite large, with comfortable queen sized beds that could be made into twins if necessary. Large windows, a sizable modern bathroom with shower, air conditioning and a small refrigerator stocked with bottled water. Given that sound is somewhat amplified in the narrow streets, we did get some noise early in the evening as restaurants were busy, but by 10pm everything was quiet. The breakfast room on the top floor has a lovely view of the surrounding area and the sea, and a outside deck that you can sit on and have a glass of wine in the afternoon. Breakfast was served buffet style with fresh fruit, yogurts, pastries, meats and cheeses, juice, and some savory bites that varied slightly from day to day. Quite sufficient to get you started.
I would recommend Hotel Stella della Marina without reservation. Be aware that you will have to climb stairs (like everywhere in the area), and that this is not a fancy establishment. It is a clean, safe, comfortable, friendly hotel in a great location, and our host made it perfect. Next time I go to Monterosso, I'm going to my friend Gabi's house (hotel)!

This lovely hotel is about a 10 minute, mostly flat walk from the train station and only a few minutes walk from the ferry. It is centrally located and very close to all the restaurants, bars and shops. Gabriel was our host and he was very accommodating. As everywhere in Italy there were a few flights of stairs to our room but Gabriel carried our bags both when we arrived and when we checked out. He also talked us through the walks between each town in Cinque Terra and gave his recommendations on where to go and what to see. Our room was clean and had everything we needed. The shower was very small so if you are on the larger side and/or enjoy some space to lather up I would suggest asking for a room with a good size shower. Breakfast offered a variety of food and the terrace off the breakfast room is bathed in afternoon light and has great view of the ocean. We took some drinks and nibbles up there and enjoyed the late afternoon sun. Thank you Gabriel we would definitely recommend this hotel. Jo and Sandra.

Yep. Cute place, but Gabrielle is what makes it exceptionally special. We had booked sea view rooms and had to cancel due to COVID shut down & re-booked a year later. Gabriele was so gracious and understanding! (And no cancellation charges!) At the time of re-booking, sea view rooms were unavailable, but lucky for us, they opened up and Gabriele was able to give us those rooms. Only sad part was we only had 2 nights here and had to leave early in the am for flight out of Milan. We thus missed Gabriele’s breakfast and cappuccino with beautiful views, but he gave us each a bagged breakfast the night before for on the road. Thank you, Gabriele, you are a gem … if we ever were to return, would not think of anywhere else.

My wife and I had a great all around experience here. Great location just a couple blocks from the beach and one street over from the main walking street that has good restaurants and shopping, big spacious rooms with good air conditioning which was crucial in July, clean and comfortable and very reasonably priced. Gabriele the man in charge is very friendly and helpful, and he gave us great restaurant recommendations, helped with booking trains and even printed off a bunch of documents for me free of charge. Highly recommended, we will be back!

Excellent hotel in the old town, the owner Gabriele is a superb host who really looks after you, he is very knowledgeable about the area and nothings a problem if you ask him about things going on in the area. Breakfasts are plentiful and can be taken on the outside terrace overlooking the scenic clock tower and sea views, the rooms are spotless and cleaned everyday with an added bonus of air conditioning which was very welcoming as the week we where there was scorching. I would not hesitate to use this hotel again or recommend to people visiting Monterosso.

This small B&B is an excellent find in a great location in the old town of Monterossa. The room we had was clean and spacious. There was a good choice at breakfast. There are several walking trails direct from hotel but also the town is linked by train to many other locations for walking. The town is lovely with lots of good bars and restaurants. I would like to return and stay at this hotel again.

Hotel Stella Della Marina is really great. Location is fantastic. An easy walk from the train and right in the center of town near restaurants and the beach. The owner Gabriel could not be more helpful. He responded to emails before arrival and provided much information about the area while we were there. He was also able to get us reservations at restaurants that we were unable to get on our own. Our room was large and exceptionally clean. Room tip- book directly through hotel for a better room at a better rate. Only issue ( not for us) be sure you can walk up steps I don’t believe there is an elevator. Breakfast is lovely, lots of foods to chose from in a lovely room with a beautiful view and an outside area to sit in.

I had a nightmare from hell getting there from Milan to Cinque Terre. The Italia Rail system billing was down for hours and I waited with thousands of other customers. After several hours it opened but did not have any tickets to Monterroso al Mare. I finally bought a 3 train change ticket through Genoa that would get me there. Long story short I took the last train going the wrong direction. Eventually I got to Spezza at 10:15pm. I found a taxi and after 120Euros in cash got to Monterrosso at 11:40pm! That was over 6 hours after my ticket was to arrive. I had contacted Gisele, the manager/owner who said earlier that he would keep the hotel lobby past his normal closing of 7:00pm. I did nt know what to expect when I got out of the taxi. To my utter disbelief, Gisele was waiting for me at the location taxis allowed to discharge riders! There was a complete sigh of relief as I had no idea where to find the hotel and if it was open.
From that moment I realized I made the right choice of hotels. Gisele was so helpful in directing me toward various hiking trails, times to go on different paths, where to get botted water inexpensively, what restaurants he recommends (especially L'Osteria) and what to expect in each of the 5 towns.
The free breakfast on the open rooftop terrace overlooking the water was so calming. The free Wi-Fi allowed me to send emails that I had arrived in Italy safely and coordinate meeting family members in 5 days when I went to the Amalfi Coast.
I cannot say enough of how much I appreciated Gisele's professionalism and his friendly compassion. My trip may have started as a catastrophe but ended up as a wonderful memory!

Next to the ancient tower.
Next to the ancient tower of Monterosso, in the historic center, in a characteristic alley is this small quiet hotel.
The welcome by Gabriele proved, immediately, a guarantee for the following days.
The rooms with bathroom and air conditioning, small but cozy and clean, are reached by climbing ancient stone stairs well preserved despite the building is from the '600.
Pleasant breakfast on the terrace or, at your choice, on the veranda on the top floor.
My sister and I will definitely return to this small hotel to see Monterosso in a quieter and less crowded time.
