Detailed Reviews
Stayed here with my husband for 5 nights this past summer. It was everything we wanted- cleaned, well-located, comfortable and with beautiful views. Piera and her family were also very helpful and accommodating and the price is very reasonable. This was our favorite part of our two week vacation. I would definitely recommend this place!

We just knew that we would love Il Patio in Manarola from the photos on trip advisor and we were not disappointed. Piera was so helpful when emailing and although sadly she was away during our visit her brother in law Angelo met us. He not only carried my very heavy bag to Il Patio but when we left he carried it back down again, now that is what I call service above and beyond!!
We stayed for 6 wonderful nights in the apartment with the view over the houses to the sea and it was perfect for our needs. You will find Il Patio spotless. There is a very comfortable bed, table, chairs, fridge, stove and some pots and pans should you wish to cook. There is no kettle/jug but we used a small pot for boiling water. The bathroom is excellent with a very good shower. Should you wish to do any washing there is a line just below the windows which was very useful for us travellers.
Manarola is the "quiet" village and we loved this. In the evening and before 10 in the morning the village belonged to the locals and we felt like one of them. We bought fresh bread or rolls, yoghurt, fruit, cheese and ham from one of the shops for our breakfasts and/or lunch. One evening we bought a take away. We ate twice at Billy's where you should book as people line up hoping for a cancellation. The food there was amazing.
We love walking and exploring and the countryside around is beautiful. There are some great walks and certainly if you are not fit when you arrive you will be when you leave as there are a great many steps. However, the locals cope so why not us?
A train service connects the five villages and also the ferry. The shortest walk is from Manarola to Riomaggiore along the "lovers way". As this area is a national park, a fee of 5 Euros per person is charged. However for 10 Euros it is possible to travel on the trains all day and also do the walks. Years ago it was possible to walk to all the villages but sadly land slips have put an end to this. The most challenging walk is from Monterosso to Vernazzo with may be 500 steps to start off with but take your time, look at the view and by the time you get to Vernazzo you will be ready for lunch and a drink. One of the prettiest walks we thought was to catch the bus in Manarola up to Volastra and then walk through the vineyards looking down upon the sparkling sea. This walk does go down to Carniglia the only village not on the coast.
For those who are not into walking there are two other "days out" we enjoyed. One was to catch the ferry down to Porto Venere and then right back up to Monterosso. By doing this you can see the five villages from the sea. The other was to catch the train to Santa Margherita which is a large and elegant town right on the water and from there it is possible to catch a ferry to Portofino. This is an attractive harbour village and good for a quick visit but it is definitely for the rich and famous with boats and prices to match.
We really enjoyed our time in Cinque Terre and would not hesitate to recommend Il Patio. We did not see the other apartments but could thoroughly recommend ours.

We stayed at Il Patio for 3 days in early September (2014). Piera is a warm & welcoming hostess who made us feel welcome and secure. Right from the start, she met us as we got off the train and led us through the maze of little streets to the apartment.
The apartment was charming - clean, quiet and very well equipped - with a fresh and airy feeling. We especially enjoyed the little patio off the kitchen - for our evening wine & focaccia. The bed was comfortable and everything worked. It was great to know that she was close by (lives very close by) in case we needed her - but we didn't.
We would certainly return and highly recommend this accommodation

We chose Il Patio based on a couple of glowing reviews and we certainly regretted our decision. So much so, we changed our itinerary, departed a day early, and have less than fond memories of our Cinque Terre experience. The room was cold, damp, noisey, dark, and without a caretaker on sight. I stay in moderately priced places, urban or rural (less than $150/night), and in my six European visits in the past nine years, this was the only bad hotel/room experience I've had, and it was a doozy.

We spent in this place 5 days and we really enjoyed the advantages of this place: 1) it is located close to the station and to the seaside (it may seem impossible to combine the two things, but here it is the case); 2) the room we stayed in was very cosy and comfortable; 3) the inner yard with a table is a perfect place to have breakfast or to hide from sunlight atnoon (there is always shadow in the yard, and it is very important in the hot july days); 4) Piera (the owner) is very helpful and welcoming; 5) good price. If we come back to Manarola, we shall certainly stay in this place!

The beautifully renovated, comfortable and spacious apartment was a home away from home. Piera and Lucio had certainly paid attention to detail. The apartment was sparkling clean with plenty of toiletries and enough utilities (crockery, cooking utensils etc) to make our stay as comfortable as possible. They were fantastic hosts - warm and generous. Nothing was too much trouble. The apartment is situated within minutes walk from the train station - an important factor if you've got kids, luggage or an early train to catch.
There are 2 supermarkets in town - Alimentari and Coop, again an easy 5 minute stroll from the apartment. The first was excellent which I bought plenty of fresh produce and fantastic wine and cheese. I avoided Coop after the lady literally chewed my 6 year old's head off for touching her glass counter. We were trying to choose cheese and sausages to bring back to the apartment. The gelateria by Alimentari is fantastic and cheap - 1.50€ for a generous scoop of gelato.
Manarola is the most elegant, compact and beautiful village of the 5 that made up Cinque Terre. The restaurants offer plenty of fish compared to the other 4 and are far more reasonably priced as well. If you want to buy fresh fish, check with Piera as a van comes by from La Spezia once a day. She is planning to install wi-fi in the apartments which will make life so much easier. I'd stood in the rain at the train station in order to check my emails.
All in all, Manarola was the highlight of our trip. A huge thanks to Piera and her family for their warm hospitality.

We had a lovely week at Il Patio. The situation is excellent, high but central and accessible by a long slope with just a few steps down to the front door.. Inside the accommodation is simple and pleasant with everything that you need for a self catering stay. We stayed in the flat with the little patio and appreciated being able to sit outside and the view of the church and hillside was nice. If you want to look down to the town and sea you only have to pop outside the front door!
Piera our host looked after us well and was friendly without being intrusive. We appreciated the home made wine, lemons and regular changes of towels.
I would thoroughly recommend this rental and would have no hesitation in returning if in Cinque Terre.

The room was a wee bit smaller than what we needed after 5 weeks of traveling, but our hostess Maria Piera, was so very accommodating that we were quickly happy. She met us at the train station so we wouldn't get lost. She welcomed us with her own wine, and just so much more. The nice part about this place is that it is in the center of everything... close to the trail head, close the swimming, to food, to groceries. She gave us good recommendations for dinner. The view is very beautiful. I think if I visit again, I would stay here and maybe choose the room with the veranda, but our room was very nice. We took so many of the iconic Cinque Terre town pictures, and you can see the beautiful house and our window in them, even our laundry drying on the balcony upstairs. I still cannot believe our hostess helped us with that, but boy was I ever grateful. Seriously. An overall excellent hostess.

Stayed in Manarola at Il Patio for 6 nights in one of the apartments based on a friends referral. Plenty of room with a separate bedroom, kitchen/dining area and separate bathroom. Small veranda off the bedroom and also a sitting area on a a balcony looking up the mountain side. Apartment was very clean and quiet. Piera (owner) was very welcoming. Her son met us at the train station and assisted us with our luggage. Manarola is the smaller town of the 5 towns in Cinque Terre and it was nice and quiet compared to our visits to the other towns. Train and ferry is available from Manarola. Definitely recommend to friends.

Il Patio in Manarola is a fabulous little studio apartment offering excellent amenities at good value. The owners keep it very clean and Maria is an excellent host who responds to all inquiries very quickly. The Manarola village is a good base from which to explore the Cinque Terre region. It's relatively less busy which means in high season you are always guaranteed a table in the various restaurants. Apparently, some of the better restaurants are in Manarola but you'll have to visit to discover them for yourselves! The only disadvantages are the steep steps that can be treacherous but that is part of the fun of living on the hillsides and there is no beach to sun bathe on. However, one can swim off the rocks. All in all a recommended village and accommodation.
