“We enjoy traveling to Italy every year. One of our favorite destinations is Cinque Terre. While there we stay in Manarola at the Guest House San Giorgio.
We are always welcomed at the reception desk with a smile and greeted like family. Our room is always ready as promised, beds and bathroom clean and tidy. Coffee and tea are available in the room along with a fully stocked refrigerator. The room is refreshed every day.
If traveling to Italy we highly recommend including a stay at The Guest House San Giorgio and visiting the villages of Cinque Terre.”

Such a beautiful room (the one built into the cliff). Very very clean. Excellent communication with host. Provided a mobile phone with free data and local/international calls. Also provided beach towels, restaurant recommendations, snacks, teas etc, kettle, toaster, cutlery, plates and cups. Everything you need. Also had an amazing view of the town and sea from the balcony! Out of the way of tourists, in a quiet area but not far to walk to from the station and rest of town. Definitely recommend, we would come back if we could.

This guest house is brand new and didn't have any reviews when we stayed there beginning of July, so we weren't sure what to expect. It is right outside of the Manarola train station (couldn't be easier to find). The rooms were spotless, and the service was great. The staff were super accommodating - they let us choose our room, and was flexible on the check out time (as long as we gave them time to prepare for new guests). The airconditioning and internet made the stay particularly comfortable. The shower was the best that I have ever experienced in Italy. Could hear some noise from outside (train, people), but not enough to be a disturbance. Definitely a good value, great location, and very nice rooms.

The hostel has a great location, right outside the tunnel of the train station (but in reality the town has one street so every location is great). The desk hours are limited so when we checked in at 6, we had to get the key from an old lady neighbor who had nothing to do with the hostel but was doing the owners a favor (this is what we figured). When we checked in, the room was clearly recently renovated with new furniture and fixtures. As we started to unpack we noticed there were tiny ants all over the room. Since the desk was closed, we had no way of informing anyone or changing rooms (there is an emergency phone in the hall but we didn't know if it rang to the owners or a police station and we didn't think ants was a police concern). My husband and I spent about an hour killing them all. They were all over the floor, walls and the bed. The next morning, we told the staff and they said they would spray the room and that it was the neighbor's fault. That night when we returned we still found a few ants (not nearly as many) but now a few spiders joined the group.

Like I mentioned, we arrived at 6pm and the city was dark and seemed very quiet. What we didn't realize was the town was full of morning people and at 6am on the main street the city came alive with lots of noise right outside our window. The garbage man came, and the shops opened and the tourist came and everyone was up and moving at 6am!! Oh, and the church bells go off every hour all night long.

Thank you very much for writing a review. We are located in a place where nature reigns untouched, the ants just feel the food coming in, this is very annoying. We apologize but we can not do anything, ask to keep the food safe closed. Unfortunately, she stayed in a religious feast (AllSaint's Day) and the church bells rang all day for this reason. I am sorry that your stay was not good, I take this opportunity to invite you to stay again with us and try to change his idea. Thanks again, Simone Affittacamere San Giorgio

We stayed here about two months ago (late October 2014). I really wanted to love this hotel.

This was our first stop flying in from NYC. We flew in to Milan and immediately got on a bus to get on a train to Cinque Terre. We only had one day to spend there and wanted to make the most of it.

Simone was really helpful with train directions and emails, etc. But he knew that we were arriving in the evening so I don't understand why he didn't warn us that there would be no front desk and that we would have to call him once we arrived. It was dark and we didn't see the small post it note outside to call him, instead walking all the way up and down the stairs looking for an office.

Once we got a hold of Simone and he arrived to check us in, we loved the room (especially the balcony). Since restaurants were closing soon, we quickly left to get some dinner. Came back, hoping for a hot shower after all that traveling (this being our first stop from NYC) only find that there was NO HOT WATER. At this point it was late in the evening and we didn't know how to get a hold of anybody with the hotel. We just had to boil some water and take a cold shower.... lovely after 24 hours of traveling.

We let the front desk know the next morning while checking out. She checked out the hot water heater and confirmed there had been an issue with it but it was now fixed. she then offered us a 5 Euro discount on our hotel... ummm thanks?

When you only have one day to explore the lovely Cinque Terre, don't leave it up to chance that your B&B will have major problems.

We only have one night in Cinque Terre and after intensive research, we decided to stay at Manarola. The decision was spot on as this is my favourite village of the five. Everyone talks about Venezza being the best but Manorola is my favourite. The park where you get your postcard perfect picture is JUST awesome. And the restaurants

Affittacamere San Giogio is usually available for minimum of 2 nights. We are glad that Simone made an exception for us.

LOCATION
The location is SO convenient. After you exit the Manarola's train station thru the tunnel, upon exit, you will see the yellow building.,

RECEPTION
- This is like staying in a local apartment. You press the buzzer and you'd be let in to for check-in. We arrive really late, close to 9pm. The reception usually closes at 5pm. The owners stay at the top floor and Simone made arrangements with this amazing Italian elderly woman (though she speaks little English) who showed us to our room. Simone also left a note for us with his mobile # so you can SMS him for emergency and we asked him where to have our dinner (blush!)
- Lifts: None
- Payment: Cash or credit card. No Amex...yet.

Note : This is NOT a hostel. Calling it a hostel is downright insulting.

ROOM #3
BEDROOM:
Views: None.
Smell: New. Not musky or lingering cigarette smell.
Size: Large
Flooring: Ceramic tiles that look like wood that blends with the wooden grain furniture of the room, completing the consistent look. (Bring your own bathroom slippers if you dislike walking barefoot on cold ceramic tiles)
Wifi: Free access and very strong consistent signal. LOVED it.
TV: Flat screen. We could not find any English channels but it is ok as we arrived late and mostly out, playing.
Cupboard : Huge.
Water kettle/jug: Yes , with tea-bags on a tray. Very important in cold weather.
Furniture: Light brown wooden grained cupboard, with a long writing table. Modern but warm look. The wardrobe is so huge that you can stay here for the entire month.
Bed: Double - Comfortable.
Sheets: Normal White cotton.
Aircon: Yes
Heater: Yes
Ambience: Modern contemporary.
Colour scheme: Neutal biege. Timeless.
BYO : Disposable bedroom slippers.
AC plugs: Plenty, especially on each side of the beds ...for u to charge your phones.

ENSUITE BATHROOM
Condition: Very clean.
Size: Large.
Towels: 2 sets of white fluffy towels
Shower Stall : well-maintained.
Shower: Good water pressure and consistent hot water.
Hair dryer : 1700 watts. You could dry your hair very quickly .
Toiletries: Sachets of hair shampoo, body gel and bars of soaps
Housekeeping: Clean, not tested for overnight...
BYO: Moisturizers, toothbrush, toothpaste comb.

BREAKFAST
None. Eat at restaurant next door, Ristorante Artiste. It's very very good.

What we liked:
1. Simone. The enterprising young man who helped the owners of the property, an elderly brother & sister living at the top of the apartment, to operate this apartment. He is tech-savvy and hardworking.
2. Location. If you are arriving late, just walk out of the station, it is right there.
3. Clean and modern. I was checking around and some of the accommodations looked too "quaint" (otherwise, old)...this place will appeal to the younger set and those who come from countries known for their cleanliness....

Finally, when we were leaving Manarola for Le Spezia on the train, lo & behold, Simone called out my name on the train, just like an old friend (it stunned me as I have no friends living in Manarola! ! What a great memory! He helped us navigate our way back to Florence. Talk about personalized service !

Great location, directly in front of you as you come out of the tunnel from the train station. Our room was great...clean, spacious, big bathroom. But, the best part of our stay there was the hospitality. Simon, the manager of the Inn, was so helpful. Not only did he provide great suggestions for exploring the town and other villages in Cinque Terre, but he helped us cancel our hotel room in Bologna (so we could extend or stay in Manarola).

Will absolutely stay here again on our next visit to Manarola!

We have never before stayed in Cinque Terre, but the hotel in Manarola was a nice suprise along our route. We are a family of 4, with 2 small children ages 4 and 7. The hotel is just feet from the train station tunnell which is extremely convenient. The newly furnished room was near multiple restaurants, and shops. The room itself was large, clean (spotless), great working air conditioner which is important in July, large private bath with nice shower. The rate was great and the young man working there was very helpful and kind. Only things missing may have been a hair dryer and alarm clock. Overall great hotel and we will stay again. We are originally from Western United States and the hotel met all of our standards.

My husband and I and our 2 adult daughters stayed here for 6 nights and just loved it!!! We had a queen sized room with a single roll-away bed and an adjacent double room; both rooms with superb modern bathrooms. The queen and the double beds were extremely comfortable and our daughters took turns on the roll-away. The windows of both rooms opened up to a view of the street and we loved throwing the shutters open to just look. The staff were superb.
We found Manarola to be just divine! Not too too touristy (maybe because there are only a few souvenir type shops, which we really liked). The many restaurants and bars are truly superb...we ate somewhere different most nights and were spoilt for choice; one night with takeaway pizza by the harbour while watching the sunset...divine!
We loved catching the train and the ferry to the other villages (the scenery from the water is stunning and the harbours are just so beautiful), and we also loved our walk from Manarola to Corniglia.
There were many highlights, one being a visit to Portovenere by ferry...it is just superb and a 'must do'. We also caught the train to Santa Margherita and then the bus to Portofino which was lovely to see (although we were surprised at all the obviously false facades on most of the waterfront buildings).
Manarola is my favourite of the 5 villages although I loved them all.

Wow, I've learned a lot in three days. First off I learned I was super lucky to pick Manarola and this hotel. I went against Rick Steve's who said Vernazza was the spot but Vernazza is really is just full of crowds and tourist bus groups.

The hotel is more like renting an apartment and it's modern and clean. It is by far the best hotel I've stayed at in my 3+ weeks traveling in Italy.

Some tips for hiking. If you see at trail that just has a sign that says closed and it's not gated off or impossible to to jump its fair game. The hikes near Manarola are the best. The closer you get to Vernazza and the town north the trails are flooded with people.

If you take one thing from this review: stay in Manarola...stay here. You'll be proud every time you see someone else lugging luggage to worse hotels :)
