You know those stock photos of Manarola from the water side with the colourful buildings cascading up the mountainous terrain? Well this place is one of the top row near the end of the outcrop. Fantastic location and fantastic view with almost total privacy.
The walk up to the house is tiresome (no cars of course) so pack light for your knees' sake lol. Romance comes for free when you get into a setting like this... just magical. Only let downs about the property? Wind noise makes it hard to sleep, the place vibrates like a cello string. There is a funky glass wall between the toilet and the bedsitting area (studio apartment) and it has a stupid electric blind for 'privacy' Just useless and very uncomfortable for the non-faecophiles amongst us...

I came with my family to stay at the hotel.
The location is amazing and you have first-line-view to the ocean.
When we booked the hotel, the picture showed a big balcony which we planned to spend time on, however when we got the room (Junior suite) the balcony was tiny and allowed only 2 chairs and a small table (but amazing view).
The room is modern, clean and refurbished.
Two notes: (1) Parking is outside and you need to carry your language. (2) We met the hotel rep in the town and had to climb the steep hill and stairs. Only later we found that there is another way to the hotel which doesn't require to go down and back up. I'm not sure if this was done so the rep will get a tip for helping with the language or for another reason, but in any case, come ready to climb.

I made a reservation on the hotel website on the 3 of August for two rooms on the 13 of August for one night paying almost 500 euros per night per room. The reservation were for the parents of my wife. On the 10 I receive an email saying that the hotel was cancelling my reservation. When I called the hotel I speak two two different people maybe the director of the reception. I found the person to be rude and not accommodating. His explanation to the cancelling reason was related to the inability From their side to honor the reservation. that was it. At the beginning he tells me their system did a mistake and did overbooking so they did not have my room ( not very professional to find out 3 days before my arrival on my opinion , specially almost paying 500 euro per room). When I get a bit pissed during the conversation, He tried to put the fault on me saying I booked 3 times and it was my mistake. When I get even more mad for this reply he keep going saying i did not give them downpayment. The website did not ask me and if they called me to ask I would have given without any issue. still wonder how that can be when I did it on their website and in any case almost 8 days in advance( they could have called for confirmation). In any case, the final result is for me to find out on the 10 of August not to have rooms on the 13 of August in italy.
I called the concierge of the hotel in Rome st Regis where I am now and he was able to find out an alternative accommodation in similar hotel. To be honest For a hotel like that did not expect such a low customer service . Careful all to book here as they cancel the reservation from one day to another . Regarding the customer service also low.

I booked this a month ago and they just emailed me that my reservation was cancelled, I got no reply on my email. I called twice someone answered in broken english the second time and told me my card did not go through, he was very rude and told me I had to try online again and then just said "bye bye" and hung up. I called my CC and they told me they do not have any declined transactions and no charge tried to go through. So I tried it again and 20 minutes later and my reservation was cancelled again. I eventually went to hotels.com completed the reservation with a different CC and an hour later the reservation was cancelled again with the reason that " I requested the cancellation" (which I obviously did not). For a place that is charging $700+ per night this is just crazy.

The reviews about how the management treats reservations is 100% correct. I have lived in Italy for over 20 years and never experienced anything like this.
I had a reservation for 2 nights over 3 months from now (January 2022) and tried to move the reservation by one night, I was told the day of my original reservation was not available in my new reservation! And it was the same day!! When I explained that I had a reservation for that night so it was clearly available, I received no reply other than "we already replied to you. check your spam file".
Back and forth was a waste of time. Persone non affidabile ovviamente.
For a property that purports to cater to luxury travel, they apparently don't like foreigners. Guess I forgot to tell them I live in Italy. Notice that the positive reviews are from locals while the negative reviews are from tourists?
I just wanted to spend a couple of nights in Liguria before and after meetings. All well.
Anyway, there are so many other places to stay that are better value. Don't risk a reservation getting cancelled or having to deal with this place. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE.

We booked our holidays with THE FIRST
Due to Covid and increase of cases in Liguria, we were required to cancel.
Before booking, Enrico told that the booking was cancellable 14 days prior to departure. We called 15 days before departure, and they told us to send a WhatsApp. Thereafter, they confirmed taking care of our demand.
Nothing has been done. And now, they deny us our refund.

My stay at Il Sogno di Manarola by The First was deeply disappointing. The management was not only rude but also remarkably unprofessional, showing a clear lack of concern for guest comfort.
The Internet was excruciatingly slow, which severely impacted my ability to work. Additionally, the view, which was advertised as a side view of the ocean, bore no resemblance to the pictures. I’ve attached a photo to illustrate the disparity.
Privacy was another major issue. The management discussed my reservation details with individuals outside my booking, which is both unprofessional and intrusive.
The final straw was being billed for minibar items that I never used. Despite my repeated requests for an itemized receipt, the management refused to provide one. This reluctance to offer transparency suggests an attempt to scam and overcharge for items that were never consumed.
Overall, I cannot recommend Il Sogno di Manarola by The First. The poor service, lack of professionalism, and dubious billing practices made for a highly unsatisfactory stay.

Modern elegant furniture, amazing terrace and a jacuzzi bathtub
You can relax here and enjoy the amazing view of the coast. It's possible to ask for a continental breakfast served in the morning on the terrace. Check in and check out are on line but it's ok

Haven't even got to the hotel yet, but have been attempting to reach the hotel for over a month now for the check-in instructions that they say will be given 24 hours before arrival. Here we are less than that and radio silence. They asked for passport copies and we sent them over a week ago, and still nothing. We have attempted to reach them via email (used 3 different emails provided on website), WhatsApp, their online contact form on the website, etc. And we have never been able to reach them. Finally reached Enrico via WhatsApp and he threatened me as well as cancelled the reservation just because I said I couldn't reach him! HORRIBLE HORRIBLE PROPERTY!!!!

Dear Sarah First of all we want to thank you for your review and we take this occasion to clarify some points of it. You are an agent who made a reservation on Orbitz/Expedia on behalf of your clients and you insert your mail in the section clients contact. When you sent us messages on the 09th and 16th May you were in contact who is no more working with us and when you sent us a message yesterday we replied to you that your clients sent us their private e-mail address to receive self check in information that we sent them and they informed you about this well. Nevertheless you decided to send us a lot of messages and calls direct to a wrong department and you didn't take care of our replies. Probably you were upset because we sent information to clients and not to you but for security reasons we can inform only guests about their accommodation. For this reason you decided to send a whats app message stating that you contacted Enrico a lot of times without any reply on my part that is completely false and offensive. We sent you messages stating that the reservation is confirmed and again reconfirmed that you clients provided us pics of their passports, we provided them information about luggages porter, elevato and so on but you decided to cancel their reservation. The same for the screen shots published where you decide to cancel the sections containing offensive comments about me that's very strange for a professional agent.
