We weren’t sure what made our stay at Camere Franco so relaxing & pleasant. Maybe it was because of the tasty home-made limoncello that Franco greeted us with. Or, perhaps it was because it’s in Manarola, which has a mysterious way of concealing its beauty (we’ve run into a few speedy tourists who took the train there, got confused, and asked the TI office & others what really was there to see & to do in Manarola!). For sure, we loved our outdoor private terrace right above the main street (we were able to do some light laundry that took only one night to dry, & also did some people-watching!), and we enjoyed the simple life there. There were probably only two grocery stores, and a handful of restaurants…BUT each of those restaurants offers plenty of good food!! We actually found ourselves keep coming back to Trattoria e Locanda Il Porticciolo in Manarola.

Yes, Camere Franco is just right above a restaurant at the end of the tunnel from the train station (you won’t have trouble finding this place!), but the train noise is not that noticeable. My husband & I likened the train noise to a faint airplane noise that flies high above our neighborhood at times. It was the street noise (from the restaurant below, or from the people yelling on the street, etc) that could be bothersome at times. But hey, if you walk around all day like we did, then have a nice dinner with wine before you go to bed, and close BOTH the first & second layers of your terrace door at night, I’m sure you’ll fall asleep just fine.

I was only a bit worried with the fact that Franco seemed to mix English & Italian in his communication to us, but for most part, he could explain the most important points in English well – so, in the end, the whole experience was actually kinda fun. Camere Franco is a spacious, clean & comfortable room at a very reasonable price in lovely Manarola. No coastal view from the room, but Manarola is so small that you can just walk to your favorite spot any time of the day & night, so why buy the view?

I found Camere Franco the perfect choice in Manarola. It is decently priced and Franco himself is a great character. We stayed seven nights in a nice room with a small fridge which is very handy since there is no breakfast service in the hotel. There is an ok cafe downstairs, but you'll get your breakfast cheaper if you buy it from the store next to the cafe. And for the coffee, I'd go elsewhere.
We really liked the hotel and will be back if (or when) we get back to Cinque Terre. Which by the way is wonderful. For us Manarola was a good town because in the evening it gets more quiet after the day tourists start to head away. On the other hand if you should need more action on some day then Riomaggiore is only 20-minute-walk away by Via del Amore which is free after 7.30pm.
Noise from the trains and vehicles didn't bother us at all. I consider myself as a light sleeper but I slept every night without waking to any noise. Sometimes you hear the bottles being dumped to recycling bin but that's just sound of life and it didn't happen during the night. Some people may be a bit more sensitive to such things but I think that if you generally find life uncomfortable then you might be one of the more sensitive persons and maybe should take the noise issue seriously. On the other hand, it's Italy - it's not even supposed to be quiet !

We stepped out of the 500 mtr train tunnel to look straight ahead at our accommodation. A perfect location! On arrival we were met by Franco..so friendly and offered us a lovely cold shot of Limoncello..very welcome! Great room with balcony and awesome bathroom. Nothing was a problem..Franco was always available if we needed assistance. We visited all 5 resorts with Manarola standing out as the smaller less crowded and certainly in our minds the most picturesque. Great restaurants and bars. Loved 4pm when all the tourists left and we had the town to ourselves and the others staying here. Great swimming and jumping off the rocks.
Will definitely return to this accommodation and town. The most memorable stay in our 7 weeks in Europe. Thanks so much Franco if you are reading this xx

Really enjoyed my stay at Camere Franco. The great location directly opposite the tunnel from the train station cannot be overemphasized. It really minimized the amount of schlepping of bags which would have been necessary at other properties in town. I would definitely recommend accessing the pensione by going around to the left side of the Aristide restaurant (which occupies the same building), instead of through the ground floor of the restaurant; this furthers reduces the number of stair steps you encounter with your luggage.

The center-of-town location of Camere Franco meant that I gave up the possibility of an ocean view, but I did have a nice, little balcony where I could have my breakfast (complimentary coffee/tea-making facilities provided) overlooking the main street, town plaza, and the cute kids playing football. The ground floor café of the Aristide had wonderful breakfast pastries available to go, and the small grocery next door to it made it easy to buy some milk, yogurt and fresh fruit to complete my breakfast requirements.

Franco and his wife Roberta were very friendly and accommodating; the welcome drink of Franco’s homemade lemon liqueur was a great touch! As has been mentioned by others, if you needed anything at all, all you had to do was call out “Franco!”, and he’d be there in a flash.

My room was very large--gigantic by European standards—and very clean and comfortable. The bathroom was also a very nice size, and the shower provided copious amounts of hot water with very good water pressure.

I found Manarola to be the perfect base for exploring the Cinque Terre. It certainly has many of the amazing photogenic qualities which bring visitors to the area. For me, it was kind of a “Goldilocks” town; not too big, not too small, and it was large enough to have some very good restaurant choices. I particularly enjoyed Marina Piccolo, Trattoria Locanda il Porticcolo, and Trattoria La Scogliera. I ran out of time to try some of the other places in town.

As you might imagine, there’s lots of great seafood available, including flash-fried local anchovies. I also had wonderful pasta, pesto, and pizza. I’m told that the pasta called trofie was developed in the area specifically to be served with pesto…

So, TripAdvisor came through for me yet again. Thanks to all the previous reviewers who influenced my decision to choose Camere Franco.

We choose Manarola as it sounded picturesque, and Franco's place seemed to be not hard physically to reach and we were right! It is literally opposite the train station but not marked so we wandered around for a while before finding it. It's on top of a restaurant. That means it was noisy in the room by day but by 10pm, the restaurant had closed and silence ruled the streets until the church bells resumed around 7am and the village started waking up.
The room and ensuite bathroom were pleasant, welcoming and spotlessly clean. Only negative thing was that one of our mattresses dipped into a V shape, which meant one of us had an uncomfortable night (all the more unfortunate was that that was me!) . I wanted to tell Franco in the morning (we only stayed one night) but unfortunately we were rushing to catch a train so I hope he reads it here and I'm sure he will fix that because he was a genial man who obviously took a pride in his place.
There are around 30+ steep stairs to climb to reach the property BUT if you walk round the back of the building, far fewer steps, which is especially helpful with suitcases.
Cinque Terre is beautiful and Manarola was like a picture postcard.

My wife and I absolutely enjoyed our stay. The room was clean, well appointed, safe, with a nice bathroom, The location is perfect with no hill to climb like many inns in Manarola. The small balcony was nice in the evening. The restaurant down stairs had a good American style breakfast and coffee. We would stay again.

We were lucky enough to stay at Camere Franco, one of the choices of Ca de Capun. After battling the crowds and staying in small quarters in other locales, landing in this tranquil, beautiful, homey place was a wonderful treat for the travel weary. On arrival, we were greeted by the charming proprietor Franco with his homemade limoncello. He and his wife were lovely and helpful hosts and the place was immaculately clean, comfortable and very well equipped. It is also very beautifully decorated with antiques and heirlooms, so it really feels like home. It is in a great, convenient location and at a very good price. I would not hesitate to stay here again and recommend it to my friends and family.

Very central in Manarola, and a good base for walks. We arrived very late because of a delayed flight. The entrance is almost impossible to find in the dark, but luckily I had read other reviews and seen photos on Tripadvisor, so we did get there. Too late for Franco’s Limoncello, but he invited us up the next morning for a taste. He’s very friendly, but he did not understand much English. A no frills room, but clean and adequate. We liked sitting on the balcony watching all the tourists come through the tunnel. As has been commented earlier, it’s a bit noisy in the morning, but it didn’t bother us as we are early risers. We did think it a bit odd that our room was not cleaned during our four nights there, but didn’t bother mentioning it. When the teabags were not replenished, we just shouted for Franco to get some more... It was a nice touch with the complimentary wine bottle in our room, and also we were happy to have a small fridge for milk etc. No breakfast, but Aristide restaurant below our rooms took care of that. We enjoyed staying there.

I stayed here with my elderly parents and nothing was too much bother. Everything we asked for was delivered with a genuine smile and its the best hospitality we've had in years. We stayed in the artist room and it was huge for 2 and roomy for 3. Views over the town are lovely and the convenience is secnd to none. I highly recommend staying here.
P.S Manarola is one of the prettier towns of the 5, so you'll not go wrong there too,

Stayed for one night and the warm welcome from Franco was the best we’ve ever had, a kind, charming and warm gentleman with a great sense of humour. The welcome home made limoncello was delicious and a lovely touch.
The building is stunning, clean large and fresh. Our room
Had a balcony overlooking the village and great for people watching and relaxing. The room was immaculately clean, large and bed was very comfortable.

Would highly recommend a stay with Franco, you will not be disappointed. Thankyou so much for taking care of my two teenagers, your warm welcome and accommodation made me feel safe and happy for them to be here. And they thoroughly enjoyed. We will return x

"We stayed in the Painter Room (as I had this room on my first visit), which has a double bed in the bedroom. A second bed - double or single - can be made up in the living room if required; ideal if you need two separate sleeping areas. Both rooms have balcony access. There was one bathroom with loo, basin, and shower, all of which was clean and tidy and worked well, with plenty of hot water for 3 people."
