Neighbourhood
Barrio Salamanca
Broad, tree-lined avenues with pretty streetlights frame the neighbourhood of Barrio Salamanca. With beautiful condominium buildings that make up most blocks in this area, this part of town is refined and quiet. It is also host to a few of the city's large shopping avenues, including Calle Serrano and Calle Jose Ortega y Gasset. A walk down these streets will reveal upscale chains, small boutiques, and plenty of opportunities for shopping or checking out the stylish displays. The locals here are polished and fashionable, the atmosphere is leisurely, and the lush Retiro Park on the southern border is yet another opportunity to enjoy the outdoors. A stroll through Barrio Salamanca is all about admiring the beautiful architecture, window-shopping, and people-watching in this upper-crust corner of Madrid.

I was really happy to be back at this hotel. It has every detail to achieve a perfect classical elegance and the perfect balance to still make you feel at home. Service is outstanding and it has all the amenities that you can expect for a hotel of this category.

This hotel works well because it is well located, well kept up, and feels old-grand-style boutiquey even if it is not that small. We found service to be friendly and helpful. We had a 2 bedroom suite for 900 Euro a night which was a suite plus a connecting room. The rooms were ni

I stayed two nights by myself in a small room overlooking the street and loved it. When I arrived in the early morning my room wasn't available so I left my bags and returned around 5pm. The front desk was busy but the receptionist noticed me from the morning and immediately had

Public ideas can look a bit dated, and reception check in was confused but rewarded with a room upgrade, and ended up with one of the more stylish hotel rooms stayed in in a long time. Very rich furnishings - but delivered with classic style

I have booked a red level room (not suite) at Fenix. I noticed that there are quite a few complaints from experienced travelers concerning its value for money concerning variety of food, drinks and service in general. Furthermore it quite frequent to see complaints about room size and noisy or dark rooms. For an additional of 80 euro / night I get red level at Melia Palacio des los Duques that seems to be more consistent in its 5 star rating. Last but not least management’ s response seems passive and apologetic thus accepting these flaws. Any help from experienced travelers ????
The evening cocktail hour with a variety of snacks was wonderful, the included breakfast buffet was very nice. We felt it was worth the money and room was well appointed.

We have booked a red level room in the hotel. My understanding is that the red level lounge is deteriorating in quality of service provided to its guests. Any opinions from guests that experienced the red level at Fenix ? Drinks are not a major concern for us .. food and snacks are on the other hand the main reason we book red level ..
The drinks available in the Red Level are excellent but the food is basic and when we were there the snacks weren’t replenished as the evening went on.This does not compare favourably with our visit last year when the food available was very good

We visited in May 2018. The red level lounge is somewhat small and quite average. the breakfast was good, with eggs made to order and offered a nice selection of other items. Service was good when staff could be found. The snacks and food were ok, but not always stocked. It seemed once snacks/food/drinks were placed out, no one checked to replenish. If you need something in the lounge, good luck trying to find a member of the staff to help you. On a couple occasions we just gave up and left the lounge. My disappointment was that the lounge is clearly under staffed and thus service and attention to detail suffer. So, overall it was just ok, nothing that one would expect from a 5 star hotel.
