We stayed in Hamburg for a three night weekend in early September and selected The Renaissance based on location reviews. It’s in the New Town area, but just a few hundred meters away from the Old Town area. I booked the lowest category (Broschek Smaller Guest Room), but as a Bonvoy Platinum member, I was upgraded two levels up to a Superior Room two days before check-in (saw in the app). It was a corner room and very large for European standards, though the bathroom was quite small. They did provide cleaning service while we were there, which is not the case with all hotels during the COVID-19 era. We also got 16:00 late checkout and a €10 F&B credit. Breakfast was included in the room rate, so we got points instead. The buffet is not offered due to government restrictions, but rather, it was a continental table service with a lovely savory and sweet bread basket, jams, Nutella, sliced deli meats and cheeses, with a choice of eggs (and bacon if you wish) - scrambled, boiled, fried, or even a simple ham and cheese omelet. I think you could also request fruit and yoghurt. We never did, but saw it at another table, so I cannot be 100% certain of this. We were quite satisfied with the offerings, but maybe others who are used to grand buffets may feel underwhelmed. Breakfast gets busy from 9:00-10:30 and you will likely have to queue for a table. Once seated, they are pretty fast with service. I would suggest going around 8:45 or earlier to avoid a long wait. We went at 9:20ish one day and waited about 10 minutes, but when we finished around 10:15, the queue had tripled. You can also request breakfast be delivered to your room at no charge, but you must request it by 22:00 the evening before. The restaurant is closed, but the bar is open and serving a small food offering. The same menu is available as room service from 10:00-22:00 (see photo). So why only 4/5 rating? For non-peak travel in September, it was rather pricey, especially for a smaller, boutique-like hotel with not many amenities (closed restaurant, limited bar offerings, no lounge, need to go to the Marriott to use the pool, gym, sauna — when it’s open considering covid).

This was our first stay at Marriott’s Renaissance Hotel in Hamburg. Turns out, it’s in a great part of town with easy walking distance to most of the museums, piers, etc. The S & U bahns have stops close by, along with the main train station being about a 15-minute walk. The hotel was nice inside. The front desk staff was very friendly at check-in and throughout our stay. The room was good size and had a good size bathroom and small fridge. The bed was comfortable and the room was very quiet when you closed the windows. The air conditioning worked great as well. Finally, the breakfast (which came with our room) was good, and included your standard European meat & cheese tray, rolls/danishes, eggs to order, fruit and coffee/juice/tea. All of it was delicious and the wait staff friendly. All in all, we had a great stay at the Renaissance. It’s exactly what you’d expect for Marriott and is ideally located in the city. Highly recommend you try it.

Remember to book by Hotels.com or other web services. I booked directly at the hotel only to find out that they charge me 40% higher price than Hotels.com The hotel is fine though that there’s no restaurant. But a nice bar with simple pub food My mistake 😫 Next time I go by the internet

Response from Guest Services, General Manager at Renaissance Hamburg Hotel
Responded 30 Jul 2020
Dear Johnny Ø , thank you for taking the time to leave us your feedback. Marriott has a best price guarantee. Whenever you find a website where a room is cheaper for the same date than Marriott’s website, Marriott will match the rate as well as give you a discount. Therefore, the prices must be compared on the same day you have booked the room on our website. Our prices change daily, so the websites (hotels.com, booking.com, etc.) change them too. If you book a room and check the prices the next day, most of the times they are different. We would like to compensate you, which is why we kindly ask you to send us screenshots of the website, you have checked the prices with, as well as your booking confirmation. If the booking and the price look-up happened on the same day, we are more than happy to compensate you. We are looking forward to your reply. Please do not hesitated to contact us directly for any further assistance. With kind regards Nicole Zoch Guest Services Supervisor

Great service, comfy bed, good amenities, central location: all things you need from a hotel when you are traveling for business! I will be staying here again. The room service menu could be bigger, especially when you need to eat in because you have work to catch up on in three evening!
