This hotel is close to Adenauer Platz subway station, so it provides quick access to the rest of the city in just minutes. It is a more residential area, so very calm and quiet. Lots of little restaurants around. Easy access from the airport. The rooms are very clean and the breakfast is very good.

You know, I read reviews of budget hotels a lot. And there's always someone who complains that it's not a five-star palace. So let's get this out of the way: the room is basic and small, the facilities are basic and small, the bathroom is basic and small... you get the picture. But it's cheap. And it's in a very good location.

So, what do you want? If you want to spend a lot on luxury, you're looking in the wrong place. If you're on a budget, then you'll be very happy. The staff are friendly and helpful, the bed is comfortable, and there's free wifi (even on the top floor, rather amazingly).

Luxury, no. Functional and cheap, yes. Book the kind of hotel you want and stop whingeing.

This hotel was great as a base if you are wanting to do all the sightseeing and nightlife of Berlin. It is a 4/5 min walk to the nearest tube station and main bus stops and the tube network in Berlin is excellent and works the exact same way as London but is much cleaner, safer and generally more pleasant! (Oh and really cheap - the tickets you uy on the tube also work for the buses - but no one checked ours once over the whole 3 days we were there! - ut buy one anyway just incase - there are machines on the platforms and outside at the main bus stations)

The Hotel itself was fine - what you would expect for a 75 pp hotel, pretty basic, very large room to single beds to make a double, but serioursly weird pillows so Id ask for an extra one on arrival as u are bound to need! Also no ironing facilities and it looks like they only have one iron and board for the whole hotel so if you know you are going to need it ask for it in good time! Admittedly becasue we had such good nights out in Berlin we embarassingly didnt manage to get up for the included breakfast - but from what we saw it looked fine - dining room very traditional , clean, no problems. Theres a mega slow PC in the lounge area if you need to check email or anything. Be warned that the room we were in had no shower curtain - the shower was fab with really high pressure and good temperature at all hours but it was very easy to flood the bathromm first time round so be careful! Overall though the hotel was absokutely fine as a base, very clean, comfortable and in a good location, Id stay there again.

Onto Berlin itself, a few tips we would like to have had beforehand that we can now pass on!;
- The tube network runs througout the night which was excellent and they come about every 20 mins after 11pm and constantly througout the day so dont worry about paying for a taxi if you go out (and there didnt seem to be the usual weirdos you get on tubes at 3am in the morning!)
- To get to the hotel from the airport get the bus to RUDROW and then the tube to ADENAUERPLATZ (the light blue line on the map U7 line)
- Theres a relaly nice Italian resytaurant a little further uo the road from the entrance to ADENAUERPLATZ tube
- You can get the bus 100 from Zoo station (major station you will see on tube map) and the 100 will take you around the whole of Berlin so you dont need to pay the sightseeing tour prices if you are happy to go to the places by yourselves
- a weird one.. dont be surpirsed if shops dont put your goods in a latic bag once you have paid - we asked for one and told we had to pay!
- BEST NIGHTCLUBS!! (If you like rnb & hip hop ) you will be in your element at H2O CLub [-]h2o-club[-] and 2Be [-]2be-club[-] - none of the ususal London attitude it was brilliant and SO cheap to get in as a female I didnt have to pay either nights!

Hope you have a great time !

I had a lengthy stay in this hotel recently and was very happy with the experience. The location is excellent 300m from the Adenaur Platz UBahn, There are some lovely restaurants nearby especially an Italian and Turkish restaurant.

The staff were pleasant and there was a decent breakfast.

The room was fine and clean. The bed was comfy and the wifi reasonably fast.

I had no complaints.

The hotel just cancelled the booking without any explanation. I planned to travel with my wife and added her name to the booking (2 guests total).

When I asked a question why they cancelled, the aswer was: "The guest name and the name on the card are not the same". No one ask me a question before cancelling. I can edit the name on the booking or even provide a card with the name of my wife. But no, the hotel manager decided just cancell the booking. The worst customer support i've ever seen.

The location is good and you may easily access the city centre by metro. I stayed three nights and asked to clean my room three times and no reaction was taken. An elevator was not working and they assigned me to the sixth floor. Several times my door key was deactivated and I had to go down to reactivate.
Breakfast is good.

Very clean and on quiet side street. Helpful desk staff. Good breakfast with plenty of variety. Good base for sighting if you are happy with plain decor. No bar and no mini bars in bedrooms. There are no desk staff at night. We wanted to purchase a bottle of water on our return one night, but this was not possible. There's a small shop in Adenauer Platz subway which is open until 9 or 9.30 p.m. Although there is a subway at Adenauer Platz (U7), best transport to start journey eastwards into city is by bus from Adenauer Platz. Buy day (or longer) travel ticket at subway station which can be used on buses, U-Bahn, S-Bahn and trams. Public transport system is frequent, clearly signed and everything links up. Most sights are not within walking distance of Hotel Lichtburg. Lots of nearby cafes/restaurants/bars: we were happy with all those we tried, particularly Oscar's at 22 Brandenburgische Strasse, round the corner from the hotel. Tapas food, very friendly people, great decor, fantastic atmosphere, suitable for all ages.

Stayed at this hotel june 2006 the hotel stairways a bit tatty rooms dated but really clean towels clean bathroom was immaculate, the restaurant was nice with an adequate selection of food could not fault the staff on reception they were really friendly the hotel was in a good location for shops bars and eating places also for transport the taxi cost us 5 euros for 5 of us to the zoo gartens where we got the hop on hop off tour bus for 20 euros which was worth it as it took us to all the main sights where you could get off and look around then jump back on the next bus which were every 15 mins. I would recommend the graffitti bar up from the hotel on the ku dam road it was excellent for food staff friendly cocktails were great for 5 Euros. I think this hotel is ideal for a couple of nights in Berlin if your just there for the sights it was clean and cheap and i would stay there again if i go back to Berlin

The whole purpose of our 2 night trip was a quick visit to the Christmas Markets and to stock up on our favourite german goodies!

Having managed to grab some cheap flights with Ryanair to Schoenefeld, a cheap (or more to the point, good value) hotel was next on the list. Enter the Agon Lichtburg on the western side of Berlin.

Located within a few hundred metres of two underground stations (our choice was Konstanzerstrasse), it's VERY easy to get to any part of Berlin and the Airport(s).

It's already been mentioned but From Schoenefeld it's a short bus trip (X7 or 171 service) to Rudow. Then it's about 45 minutes on the underground (U7 Line) to Konstanzerstrasse, in the direction of Spandau.

An adult day ticket for zones A and B (this covers the airports and the majority of Berlin) is 6.10 euros and gets you unlimited use of the bus and trains.

So, on to the Hotel itself. It's an older hotel but has been kept in good condition and was impeccably clean throughout. Into the lift (old, small but somehow working!) and on the floor we were staying on (6th) it looked to have been decorated within recent weeks or months and had a new carpet smell. The room was a similar story. Clean, "Daz White!" bedding and the bathroom appeared to have been recently decorated (new tiles, fresh paint etc).

The bed and furniture wasn't exactly new but it all did what it was supposed to. There was a safe, hairdrier and TV in our room. Yes there is only one English language channel (CNN) as other reviewers have pointed out but for goodness sake it's Berlin. Did you really come for the TV channels?!

A good night's sleep followed by a superb shower led onto Breakfast. As already mentioned by others it's a 'typical' continental affair. A few different types of fruit juice, Tea, Coffee along with rolls, meats, cheeses, jams plus a couple of cereals (musli and cornflakes) and fruits. Plenty of choice to cover most tastes and the peak time is around 8 til 9 we found.

In summary, this hotel is the absolute definition of 'Cheap and Cheerful'. When you consider that a standard price for a Travelodge room in the UK is around £50, we managed to get two nights with Breakfast for £64. Bargain. We'd definitely go again.

And finally, Christmas markets!

There are so so so many in Berlin and it's difficult to compare them all objectively as they're all quite similar in some ways.

That said, we found that the one at Alexanderplatz (over the road, not the one in the main square) is very good. Lots of stalls and a good selection of fairground rides.

BUT the one at Spandau is simply magnificent. There's no excuse not to go if you're staying in the Agon Lichtburg as it's on the U7 line. Get off at Altstadt Spandau and see it for yourself. A huge market but well layed out around the area. Something for everyone, a small animal section for the younger kids, a huge selection of stalls selling food, drink and original gifts plus a big fairground over the road at the 'top' of the market.

Its an hour away by public transport from Schonefeld. You'll need to get the X7 bus to Rudau, cross over from the bus stop and get the U-Bahn 7 (Rathaus-Spandau) line and get off at Konstanzer Strasse or Adenauerplatz, then its a few minutes walk to the hotel. The location is very handy for the U-Bahn and the shops on Kurfurstendamme but about 20 mins ride away from the city centre.
