An old gem is polished. The HOTEL ZOO BERLIN, the jewel of Berlin’s Kurfuerstendamm from the 1920s to 1950s, is shining brightly again. Designer Dayna Lee (Powerstrip Studios, N.Y. and L.A.) reinvented the HOTEL ZOO BERLIN without neglecting its historic character. With a great passion for details, she created a unique townhouse, which combines a mix of New York flair and London elegance. Dayna Lee embraced the building’s history in her design. Constructed in 1891 as a private residence for an affluent family it was converted into an upscale hotel in 1911. Home to many celebrities of the time, it became the VIP-Hotel for the Berlin International Film Festival in the 1950s. All of the 141 rooms and suites in the HOTEL ZOO BERLIN are unique. The original floor plan - more than 100 years old - combined with the newly constructed levels in the side wing and rear building add up to an extraordinary architectural mix, also reflected in the many different layouts of every single room category. Some feature open plan bathrooms, others boast free-standing bathtubs. Amenities include custom made walnut closets, plush mother-of-pearl colored headboards and large armchairs resting on dark wooden floors. The panorama rooms allow views of the Kurfuerstendamm or across the rooftops of Berlin, towards Theater des Westens. GRACE Bar revives the glamour of Berlin’s Golden Twenties in the same hotel where film stars like Marlene Dietrich sipped champagne and danced the Charleston a century ago. Tucked behind the living room of Berlin’s famous Hotel Zoo, GRACE Bar achieves a perfect balance between the hip and the historic. The NYC and LA-based designer Dayna Lee combined details like exposed brick walls, green leather armchairs, violet wall panels, an amethyst bar top, and a mirrored backboard to create the feeling of an old Hollywood film set. The bartenders at GRACE Bar also take inspiration from the building’s history as a popular hangout for international film stars in the 1920s and 1950s. The cocktail menu includes both timeless classics, like the Sazerac, and the bartenders’ seasonal inventions with exotic ingredients like galangal honey, pandan syrup, and roasted banana-infused shochu. On weekend evenings, local DJs play into the early morning hours. Guests can always cool off or smoke a cigarette in the winter garden, a courtyard with a five-meter long fireplace and tall windows that make it easy to keep an eye on the action inside at the bar. GRACE, what lies behind this alluring name is the new glamorous restaurant in Berlin’s city west that advanced to an in-spot for casual fine dining shortly after its opening in early 2015. The cosmopolitan charisma of the interior design paired with the exquisite menu result in an exceptional culinary experience. The young and fierce kitchen team soaks up the nonchalant lifestyle of the restaurant and conveys it onto the menu. Heading towards a new, unchartered culinary territory, the chefs create exclusive dishes, not to be found anywhere else. The cuisine paired with the ambiance of the restaurant, leaves you breathless. Every dish can be served as a party-friendly small plate, making the dining experience a social event. The service staff completes this concept, ensuring the guest an unforgettable evening. Creamy Rock Shrimps, Beef Summer Roll, Asia burrata, there is such a wide array of tasty delights on the starter menu, it is best to load up on them all, staying true to the small plate principle of sharing and enjoying. Mains include the Miso Black Cod and the Maine Lobster with yuzu or, for the beef lovers, the Filet Chinois with pak choi and cocoa bean and the Rib Eye Steak with green asparagus and lavender. Vegetarian dishes like the Braised Eggplant and Jaipur Artichoke are worth ordering anytime. The dessert menu is studded with delicious delights including the New York Cheesecake and the Pecan Chocolate Cake. The wine menu provides a wide selection to perfect the evening. If the weather permits, the dinner can be enjoyed on the lush green terrace of the restaurant. One of the city’s most spectacular rooftop terraces, the cherry on top of the HOTEL ZOO BERLIN. This oasis of peace is another stroke of genius from an American interior designer. Dayna Lee, signing the entire premise with her urban townhouse style. The new rooftop terrace and GRACE Garden are stunning spaces, completing the hotel’s portfolio of glamorous venues. The rooftop provides a bar and a lounge area accommodating up to 100 guests. The view from the terrace boasts a stunning 270-degree panorama of the Berlin cityscape with the southwest exposure allowing spectacular sunsets views. An open fireplace and a waterfall dancing under a vegetated rim complete the setting. GRACE Garden creates a parallel fine-dining universe away from the buzz of the city. Guests can relax on custom-made loungers, enjoy a fancy cocktail and indulge in highlights of the GRACE menu while facing the breathtaking night sky over Berlin. On special events, the terrace hosts top-notch DJs enhancing the atmosphere with relaxing clubhouse tunes.

Zoo Hotel Berlin is a lavish and extravagant hotel in the heart of the Western part of Berlin's shopping and entertainment district. Close enough to the gay hub in Berlin, the Zoo hotel is detailed in somewhat over-the-top but tasteful decor, modern, with lovely high ceilings and quality rooms.

Large comfortable beds, heated floors, lovely showers and bathtubs and quality room service contributed to the high standard. The black-out curtains were beneficial during our stay. The team there welcomed us warmly and made our stay very comfortable.

Pro-tip, if you are not a party person, ask to stay in a room that's not to close to the bar as on a Saturday night, the music below might not be to everyone's liking.

We are looking forward to returning one day soon to stay at the Hotel Zoo Berlin.

I really enjoy my stays at the Hotel Zoo - great location on Kurfürstendamm, an easy walk to lots of cafes, shops and restaurants in the local area. The hotel has a boutique luxury feel with a great restaurant and bar, Grace, attached. Louisa at reception was helpful with finding me a very nice room with a walk in shower - much more pleasant for me as a tall person.

We spend 2 nights at the Hotel Zoo in the heart of Berlin and already from check in, we were impressed. The Hotel Zoo offers valet parking, a great relief when one is not familiar with Berlin by car.
We chose the second smallest room and we were impressed with that to. Window was facing a quiet yard and the room was airy, roomy and beautifully furnished and smelled nice.
At breakfast we were impressed again. The restaurant offers a great variety of breakfast and the bread is freshly baked. Once seated you can order eggs, pancakes or whatever you like and you do not have to wait long.
The beautiful surroundings and the always kind and highly motivated staff made us feel very welcome. Thank you for that!

Either you hate or love the hotel.

In our case we reserved one of the better categories and despite having asked for a silent room along with our reservation we got a room with loud music from the roof bar from early evening.

Consequently we were changing rooms twice (lack of rooms available in the same category). We were also charged for around 100 Euro for minibar beverages that we did not have (has now been told it will be credited). However we got a one night deduction of the parking fee :). Also the AC was not able to turn off in the second room we slept in, so a cold was awarded on our way home. And finally we also succeeded to get a nice young couple visiting our second room while we finally were on our way to bed - their keys were also working in the very same room!

Having said that the staff at the hotel were all very nice and they did their outmost to solve the most important problems, 5 stars for that. However the description of the hotel on the website does not reflect the hotel in fact and we simply spend too much time and energy to get settled at the hotel.

So if you like a chik trendy hotel in this way you will simply love the hotel. If not, you will hate the hotel no whether your stay is for pleasure or business.

We had a wonderful night after our wedding at hotel Zoo. The staff was very friendly and forthcoming, the amenities are very clean, high quality and of excellent design. The atmosphere has a perfect blend of modern, cozy, luxurious and romantic.

At Grace Bar you get well mixed classic cocktails as well as some interesting exotic creations.

The only thing that did not blow us away was the breakfast, which you can easily find at higher quality in the neighborhood.

Verdict: recommend!

The location, rooms and staff were perfect.

After an awful experience at Hotel Sana Berlin (read my review for full details) I booked and moved to Hotel Zoo paying a little bit extra for a grand deluxe room.

It has been an absolute pleasure to stay in and come home each night to our freshly cleaned room with all the amenities you could ever need and a super comfy oversized bed.

If A/C is important to you, each room has a proper individually controlled unit capable of going down to as low as 18c.

The staff are extremely pleasant, say hello with a smile and care about their customers. Ultimately, I would thoroughly recommend this hotel without hesitation to friends and family!

If you’ve just booked, congrats as you’re gonna love it!

I have just returned from a wonderful stay at Hotel Zoo in Berlin.
The location is superb, right in the heart of all the designer shops yet opposite
Stop 1 for the hop on hop off City tour bus which I highly recommend.
The staff at the hotel are extremely helpful in booking restaurants and advising
You on the area. The hotel itself is very cool and trendy in style, beautiful entrance and the lounge and bar area are very fun and quirky places to relax and have a
Glass of wine or cocktail. Our room was very comfortable with an amazing large
Walk-in shower , bathrobes , plus a coffee machine in the room.
I would definitely recommend Hotel Zoo for a luxury stay in Berlin especially for
Couples.

I have just come back from Hotel Zoo, staying for 4 nights in early September. Having travelled to Berlin many times in the past I have a preference for staying on and around Kurfürstendamm due to the amount of cafes and restaurants to choose from.
This was the first time I had stayed at Hotel Zoo I will certainly use it as my go-to for future trips to the city. The hotel has the perfect location, being close to the main transport routes, shops, bars and restaurants. For those travelling on business trips to The Messe, it is only a few stops to the station there.
Hotel décor is excellent and the roof top garden is absolutely fantastic. Rooms are great and the beds extremely comfortable.
For me, the staff are the stand-out. Jonas and the team are personal, professional and cant do enough for you. Whilst there are plenty of hotels to choose from in the vicinity (and I have stayed in pretty much every one), I have never stayed at one with such a personal touch. The hotel was fully booked when I stayed and yet I was made to feel like I was the only guest.

After traveling nearly 20 hours from the US, we just thrilled to be on land. And then the doors swung open. Leopard runner leads you to a stylized 30s glamorous lobby. There's a mile long fireplace with club chairs (spent several afternoons reading and sipping cocktails. The tallest set of doors is opposite and just jaw-dropping. Their loung is hopping....and the most elegant, old world restaurant has the world's best brunch, which includes fresh honeycomb for guests to mine. Our room was adorbale with a heavenly bed and a dreamy shower.

This was a business trip for my husband and I was just along for the ride. This hotel is perfect for couples, solo travelers, and families. Hotel Zoo Berlin feels like a luxury hotel but it's moderately priced. Our room, 222 has darling elephant topiaries outside the window! The location is very near the A+ zoo, excellent shopping and restaurant district but you might enjoy the hotel so much, you won't leave.

Funky and gorgeous, the Hotel Zoo is situated in an old building which has been totally refurbished with an eye to style. Our room faced into a large courtyard and was blissfully quiet, comfortable bed and great shower ( quiet/bed/shower are my prerequisites!). Room was well equipped and stylish. Fabulous breakfast. The extra bonus was the delightful staff who went out of their way to suggest restaurants, make reservations etc and then followed up to make sure you were happy. This is great customer service. Would stay again in a heartbeat.
