This hotel is well placed and good for transport. You could get the bus just round the corner every 10 minutes into Zoo station and there was an underground not far away. We walked to the main shopping area Kurfurstendamm a few times as well.
The rooms were a bit basic but warm with a television and very clean.
The breakfast was good with cereals, bread, yoghurts, meats, cheese, eggs etc.
All the staff were friendly.
Very good value for money

My wife along with another couple stayed here, and we were very impressed.
We had booked online and knew we were getting a junior suite each.
The room was very spacious, as too was the bathroom.
Everything was very clean and tidy, and also there was a couch, coffee table & chair in the room along with writing desk/T.V.
The bed was very comfortable as well. There was free Wifi in the room which was fast enough to check e-mails etc.
The reception staff were very friendly and extremely helpful with our local travelling requirements. An all-day travel pass for 4 people was only 16 euro.
The U Bahn was a 5 minute walk away, and Berlin Tegel airport is around 15 minutes away in a taxi for around 20 to 25 euros.
We opted to eat out around the city, but a small bakery a few minutes walk away gave a good breakfast at a fraction of the cost of the hotel.
Also locally was a German restaurant which was good and also an American style diner opposite which was also excellent.
The hotel is within a 20 minute walk to the Zoo, but it is best to get the U Bahn/ S Bahn to the likes of Potsdammer Square/ Brandenburg gate/checkpoint Charlie.
The area is very quiet, and as you would expect in Germany, very clean and well kept.
All of us really enjoyed our stay there.

We stayed ap Park Inn Berlin City-West twice. Overall this is a nice hotel at a good location with good breakfast and friendly staff. The beds are comfortable and rooms pleasant, quiet and clean. An U-bahn station is just a short walk away. Annoyingly there are no double beds - just two single beds pushed together, and they roll around quite freely. We were woken up by housekeeping knocking on our door twice between 8-9 am - I don't think that's a good practice even though we hadn't put up the 'do not disturb' sign. The above are just minor annoyances, but the worst part about this hotel is the speed of the free internet which makes it useless. It's limited to 512kbps but seemed even slower. This is a really annoying problem to have in year 2015 and I'm quite disappointed. If you can live with the unusable wifi (or pay a ridiculous rate for faster speed) this is actually quite a good hotel.

The Hotel is situated far from historical center of Berlin. The hotel staff is not helpful. Often do not fulfill the most basic requests of tourists. For example, a tragic mistake would be if you leave some item for your friend at the reception Desk. Your friend won't get it, and you won't get it back. It will disappear and no one is responsible for it. Other items may also be missing. Never leave anything of value here. Im not recomend.

I'm generally quite easy about the service quality at hotels, particularly when on a leisure break, but for the Park Inn Berlin City West I have to make an exception. My wife and I had booked a long weekend during October, along with my brother and his partner. We'd booked well in advance, over 9 months previously, and were looking forward to the break. I'd chosen the Park Inn due to the good reviews and locality to the underground line. However, upon arriving we were told "there is a problem", and the lady walked off. She came back a short while later to explain, very matter-of-fact, that the hotel had been overbooked and we did not have a room.

I found this hard to believe, firstly we had booked 9-months in advance and secondly it was only 11am in the morning so it was unlikely that all other people had checked in already. When I questioned this, I was given a very frank and honest answer. The hotel had received a block booking from a coach tour, and we had been gazumped. When I asked why they had chosen to do this, I was told it was more profitable for the hotel! Not exactly great customer service, but at least the receptionist (clearly this wasn't her choice) was honest. We were then told we had been booked into an alternative hotel, the Best Western a couple of kilometres away. After fruitless negotiation and a period of stunned surprise, we were eventually offered a taxi to the other hotel.

I’ve stopped in hotels all over the world, and NEVER before have I had my room cancelled knowingly by the hotel because they could make more money from someone else!

The BW hotel was fine, but listed itself as a 3* rather than the 4* hotel that we'd booked. Now, I'm not a hotel snob, but I expect to get what I'd paid for! The real annoyance was not being told. The hotel had our contact details, why not contact us and at least give us a choice to find our own accommodation?

Upon return to the UK, I wrote an emailed letter of complaint to the hotel. A week later, after no response, I sent the email onto the Central Reservations team, and another week later, still after no reply, I sent again to all emails I could find for Park Inn. Eventually, I got a response from the hotel and an offer of an upgrade if I choose to visit Park Inn Berlin West again - not likely!!!

Berlin was fun, the Zoo and Berlin Wall being the highlights along with some amazing beer and atmospheric pubs. The BW hotel staff were great, and by the end of the break we’d almost forgotten about the awful service from the Park Inn and the far from ideal start. My advice would be to give Park Inn Berlin West a wide berth and save yourself the stress. The service of the Park Inn group is awful, and they will never have my business again.

To whom it may concern, thank you very much for your feedback. We do apologize for missing to inform you about the booking situation prior to your arrival. We have addressed this issue to the Reception team ensureing this kind of situation will not come up agin. In fact, we have chosen the Best Western Hotel for you re-location as it is a four star hotel in good location,approx.900m away from our hotel, but mainly because of the high standards they aim to provide to their guests. Despite the unexpected hotel situation, we trust you had a great time in Berlin. Refering to our email send on November 07th, we do hope you accept our apology. We are looking forward to welcome you back in the Park Inn by Radisson Berlin City West.

I booked a 'standard room with double bed' for 2 nights. Upon arrival I asked for a quiet room on a high floor. I was given a single room with a single bed on the 5th floor facing the street and a football playground. I went back to the desk and told the girl that it said a standard room/double bed when I booked and she said 'when only 1 person is using the room we give them the single.' I asked if it was possible to be upgraded, 'no.' The room was very used/shoddy furniture, a 2 star rating. I did not sleep well so next day I told the next girl at the desk that I would not be staying the second night. She did not ask why and checked me out. I asked if I could print my boarding pass and she said there would be a charge to do this so I said forget and just left.
In summary, a 2 star room with a 0 star service.

On the plus side, the area surrounding the hotel is really nice!

Hotels should not advertise free wifi when it does not work. When I called to complain that the wifi was abnormally slow (10 minutes to load a page), the immediate answer was "If you pay, you can get faster wifi" - deceiving customers into paying more is just plain dirty.
I would not recommend this hotel as it advertises itself falsely. You cant treat your customers like idiots.

Room was very clean and of decent size, staff very friendly, and the area I would describe as a quiet Kensington version of Berlin. It took 5 mins walk from the U-bahn (metro), and 5 mins to Kurfunstendamn. There are some nice restaurants 2 mins walk away also. Reception provides essentials if you've forgotten anything like toothbrushes and razors, and the bathroom provides all in one shampoo/body wash.

Negatives of hotel. We asked for a double room but as usually happens we got to single beds pushed together (I never understand why hotels do this?). Also pillow was very odd, it was like a sack, and then to make fuller you had to fold it. You had to pay for wifi and breakfast was 12 euros, so we decided to go to a cafe up the road which filled us up for about 4. But all of this was very minor and we were very happy with our stay :)

WARNING ABOUT BERLIN TRAINS!!********
We didn't know about this, apparently its quite normal in some European countries. We got to the airport trainstation and there was no one about, but we managed to get a ticket (ABC single, cost 3 euros) and got on the right train. We noticed there was no date on it, thinking it was a bit odd, but there was a time, therefore we thought it'd be fine. WRONG. We got halfway, and were asked to leave the train by ticket inspectors, who told us that because we hadn't validated our tickets (aka used the stamp machines next to ticket machines which we hadn't even noticed to stamp todays date on) we had to pay a fine of 40 euros each!!! Thinking it was a scam, they took us to the information desk on the platform and confirmed their id was real. After protest they let us off with 40 between the two of us because we were tourists who didn't know.

The experience really shook us up and we think it was incredibly unfair, and avoided using the trains apart from our journey back to the airport. I can't imagine how much money Berlin trains make from catching tourists out this way, so make sure the same doesn't happen to you!! I'll definitely be doing a lot more research on cities transports next time I travel!

Found this hotel when we booked a short break with Easyjet.
It was a very enjoyable stay right from the off with helpful but unobtrusive reception staff. Room was just what we needed but for the beds being two singles pushed together that had a tendancy to move apart !
OTHER HOTELS TAKE NOTE - the minibar was priced sensibly and as a result encouraged use; unlike other places who use price lists 'from the Ritz'. Well done Avalon, sound Germanic business sense.
Breakfast was good without being spectacular but it is served for 4 hours and very useful whether you want to get off early or have a lie in and still eat before venturing off.
The excellent U-Bahn is less than 5 minutes walk away - we used Fehrbelliner Platz which is closest.
Don't be put off by it seeming to be a bit out of the centre, the transport links make the whole city within convenient reach. If the weather is kind then hire a bike, Berlin and Berlin drivers make cycling very enjoyable.
