We stayed in this hotel through a vacation package. They did not inform the company that the entire hotel is undergoing a renovation and is covered in scaffolding. Hotel stated it’s a city project but that doesn’t seem likely as they talk about remodeling on their website. By not sharing this info they do not risk losing bookings as we would not have stayed there. We were not able to leave windows open and enjoy any views nor could you with construction debris blowing in. Work was sometimes going on as early as 6am. One night there was strong winds and the sounds of blowing plastic and falling scaffolding kept us awake. The inside is old and charming and could use some updating. The showers were so small you had difficulty moving with accidentally turning the water off. Breakfast was over $16 and had no hot options, only continental and NO coffee except a vending machine that gave out only warm coffee. Staff were friendly and helpful and rooms were clean. 2min walk to bus or 6 to tram.

I have recently begun doing city breaks with the family, I am happy with a hotel that is clean, safe and well-priced as ultimately it is somewhere to sleep when you get back from a long day of exploring.

This hotel ticked all the boxes, the staff were friendly, the room was spacious and easily big enough for the 4 of us (family of 4 with 2 children aged 13 and 11). There was plenty of shops, bars and food outlets nearby and a bus stop right outside from where you could get a very frequent bus to Berlin Central station (number 245) in about 10 minutes.

The only negative I had was our last night was a Friday and we didn't realise the staff had put us directly above a pub/club until that night when the music went on until the early hours. I recommend asking to avoid this part of the hotel at weekends.

Otherwise a very nice base for which to explore at amazing value.

Yes, it's an old hotel with very old-fashioned looking interiors. We really didn't feel it was like a 2-star hostel as previous reviewers have suggested. It was at least clean and comfortable.
Two minor issues at the time we were there. The view out of the window (a courtyard) was obscured by netting covering the windows due to the building works going on out there, presumably to prevent debris from entering the room should you have the windows open. And scaffolding. And the work started up at 7am on a weekday. Bring your earplugs (assuming the work is still going on in November). Actually, bringing earplugs is always a good idea. I imagine that a room at the front might suffer from traffic noise.
The rooms are presumably converted into en suites resulting in smaller bedrooms. Our room was an awkward shape due to the necessity to work around the radiator in the bathroom. But it was clean at least. The show was a bit 'iffy' at times.
However. It's in a good convenient location, was a reasonable price, the room and bathroom were clean and the bed comfortable. Didn't have breakfast there (there are quite a few cafes serving huge Turkish breakfasts across the road) so can't comment on that.
Would I stay there again? Probably not. There are other smarter looking hotels in Berlin at a similar price. If you're not bothered by smart then this could be a suitable stay.
The few staff we came across were friendly, no complaints there either.

No information in advance that the entire hotel is under construction, just a sign at the reception. No discount due to the construction work. Scaffolding around the entire hotel.
It smelled of tobacco in our room so we got to change to a smaller room, didn't receive a discount for that though. First they didn't believe me at the reception, "it can't smell of tobacco since the rooms are no-smoking". Gaslighting much?
Full-covering carpets and interior from the 70s probably, so I guess the renovation was way overdue.
No air if the windows were closed, and if you had them open there was a lot of noise and they started drilling at ~8 (7?) in the morning. The staff was also really loud in the corridors. And the housekeeping woke us up although we had the "do not disturb" hanging on the door.
Breakfast was very boring and limited, the coffee tasted like it had been heated up from the day before, price was €16.50.
The hotel felt unsafe due to the scaffolding right outside the window, like someone could easily break in and steal stuff.
The construction workers/staff smoked DIRECTLY outside our window.
Can't honestly recommend this hotel.

100% happy with this hotel. Family run. Lovely staff. Brilliant breakfast with a massive choice (til around 10.30 on weekends and 1 p.m new year's Day!). They have earl grey tea which I drink religiously each morning (many places don't!). We had a massive room for us two adults and two children. Clean. Plenty of space and storage
Spotless bathroom.
We will definitely go back to this hotel. Very good price.

Good, old fashioned hotel in a period palace, not far from the central station. I would certainly advice it in the winter (no a/c) and at the excellent price I paid. Good room with fridge, nice old style interior and common spaces. I reserved two rooms for lack of spaces at the time of reservation, but they managed not to change my room. Better to ask for an inner room.

Terrible interior. The room is claustrophobic old and dirty. The hotel is like a Cheap hostel, not a 2000euro hotel for 3 days!!!! Check in took 40 minutes. The pictures in the internet are nothing like the horrible old room we got. Old dirty and extremely cramped rooms. We had no place to spend the night with a child. Corridors dirty. This hotel is some kind of price joke with fake photos. Price scammers. We feel cheated.

This was the second time for me at this hotel, It is close to public transport (which is super efficient in Berlin) Staff are helpful & friendly, this is not a "chain" hotel, and there is an interest in the guests. Excellent B'fast buffet.Help with looking after luggage prior to departure. Staff also spoke English but then who doesn't in Germany? Rooms are well appointed, no tea making facilities was the only criticism I found.

Very good room size with minibar, good size double-bed, nice seating area, television, phone and an exceptionally nice large bathroom with shower, tub and hairdryer (including heated floor, which is VERY useful in winter on tiles). Advanced request for flowers and wine on the room at arrival was fulfilled prefectly with no hidden charges. Breakfast had everything one could ask for like german sausages, fruit-salad, all sorts of cerials, eggs, bacon, fresh rolls, toast, fresh juices right up to even shrimp-cocktail.
This would definately be the hotel we would book on our next visit, since price matches the service fully.

I found the hotel Tiergarten to be a wonderful hotel. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly.
It was my first visit to Berlin and had no idea how to get around but was given maps of the bus stations and underground and was told in detail how to use the transport service. The hotel was close to the underground ( less than a 5 min walk) and the service is fast and efficent.
The breakfast buffet was lovely and had so much choice.Even for me as a fussy eater!!
When I go back to Berlin I will definatley be staying at the Tiergarten.
