Since leaving Berlin to set up my new life in California, I have stayed at the Hotel Steglitz International every time I visited my home town. This was also the case on a recent family trip. The location is unbeatable with easy access to S-Bahn, buses, and subway. In addition, you’re just feet from a major shopping area in Berlin. Furthermore, the super market right next door is very convenient to buy beverages and snacks until late night. Same with the Doner Kebab stand in walking distance. The breakfast buffet is superior to even the most luxurious hotels in town and my kids couldn’t get enough of all the choices offered. For me, Hotel Steglitz International has become my home away from home.

Very clean, big, and comfortable room. Staff very polite. Absolutely nothing I can fault at this stay. Breakfast was very good with a wide variety and cooked options. Looking forward to my next stay. Highly recommend

Fantastic location if you want to be in the Steglitz area, friendly staff, clean and spacious rooms- however, we felt like back in the 70s with the green/yellow carpets and wicker chairs etc!
decor is massively outdated plus they charge 1 euro for coffee when this was complimentary in all berlin hotels we stayed in.
I’d still recommend the place if you want to stay in the south-west area due to the impeccably clean and huge rooms and the good customer service!

If possible, there should be a negative -5 for this hotel. No wifi, hotel staff is rude as if they are doing a flavor. Last night (31st Aug), I called the front staff at 1 am to ask why wifi wasn’t coming because I had a presentation the next day, and he said, “What can I do if it is not coming”...

I am paying 145 dollar per day without wifi and practically can’t work. Horrible hotel, please don’t go if you want a good experience stay in a hostel thats much better than this.

Great 3 night stay at this lovely spacious and reasonably priced hotel. Very helpful staff and wonderful breakfasts. Though it was a bit out of the Berlin city centre, it was very easy to get into the city with the excellent bus, train and underground services. This area was in itself very nice and hotel is just across the road from a square with water fountain which attracted a guitar playing busker on a Friday, market on Saturdays and flea market on Sundays. About a miles walk will take you to the Botanic Gardens and lovely eateries, bars, restaurants and good shopping area with Schloss Shopping Mall all at hand. A very vibrant but quiet area.

Rude staff and no true amenities to warrant the 4 stars it boasts (no restaurant besides breakfast, no fitness, everything else is for a fee, including water and coffee, etc.). And no, having recommended places in the "neighborhood" does not qualify as a hotel amenity! (they tried to send me to a paid fitness center almost a kilometer away...)

It is clean and located centrally; those are the positives. Beyond that, one can do much better for the same price in other hotels.

The rude staff is the real downer; a completely ridiculous complication to an underwhelming hotel. I recommend finding another location and enjoying your Berlin stay rather than staying here.

Never again for me.

Let us start with the good news first. The location is relatively good, close to a connection hub in Southern Berlin. But here is where it ends. Other than that, it is a run-down place with an 80ies charme, equipped with grandesse only in the stiff prices. The rudeness of the staff is legendary. I must also admit that I am increasingly allergic to main staff in hotels that is unable to speak German or English or any language common in Western societies. My recommendation is to avoid this place. The hotels of the Motel One brand in Berlin are good.

I arrived here after almost 24 hours of travel, late in the evening. I had reserved a room over two months in advance, queen, non-smoking. Was I ever surprised to be told that not only did they not have my room, but that I was lucky to get any room at all, in this case a smoking room with two single beds. Despite the fact that my reservation was guaranteed by my credit card, the front desk staff insisted that anything above and beyond a bed was "optional" and I could take it or leave it. The breakfast, which they immediately offered as a complimentary add on, ended up being charged one of the two nights.

It seems they do not place much importance on acknowledging higher tier members of their own loyalty program, and that their front desk staff simply could not be bothered to properly allocate the reserved rooms. Perhaps they were counting on me not showing up at all? This total lack of organization and extremely poor attitude toward the customer are unfortunate, to say the least, as they detract from an otherwise good hotel.

The next day, the hotel manager did sort things out, provided me with a non-smoking junior suite (really, just a slightly larger room with a sofa and chairs) and a bowl of fruit. Nice touch, but it should never have come to this.

That being said, if you get what you reserve, the hotel is very decent for the price. It was, in this case, less than half of what my usual place would have charged, and is no more than 15 minutes away by U Bahn from Zoologischer Garten. The U Bahn is directly next to the hotel, and costs only 2.30€.

The rooms are newly renovated, with nice, clean bathrooms (shower only, no tub), though the rest of the building shows its early '70s look. The breakfast buffet is very nice indeed, and at 13€, not a bad deal for what you are getting. Note that there are a bakery and a small supermarket right outside the front door, too.

For an inexpensive and conveniently located place to stay a few days in Berlin, this is certainly a decent choice.

While the hotel is centrally located, service and breakfast buffet are excellent, you won't get much sleep in a hot summer's night, as the rooms lack air conditioning. You don't notice at first, since the lobby and common areas are all air conditioned. When we opened the windows in the room, it barely made a difference, except for the noise level from the surrounding streets, which by itself kept us awake.
The lady at the reception desk tried hard, but with limited success, to find us another room with a bearable temperature, as we refused the first one assigned to us, which felt like a sauna. Room temperatures were approx. 88 - 90 degrees Fahrenheit. With the windows open, it "cooled down" to around 83 in the morning.
When we questioned how a hotel that belongs to Best Western and calls itself "Premier" can do without a/c in the guest rooms, the answer was that it was considered by management, but deemed to be too expensive!
Therefore, my recommendation is "No" for stays during summertime.

Answer from HotelSI_Berlin

Do the double rooms have a hospitality tray? ie tea/coffee making facilities, kettle etc.
Answer from HotelSI_Berlin
Berlin, Germany5 contributions
Dear Ingrid, We can confirm the information from "P S". There is no tray with kettle or tea/coffee making facilities in the room, but next to the elevator we have a small kitchen, called "coffee point", where you can get hot water and tea and also coffee out of a high quality coffee machine. We believe that's better, than an instant coffee made in the room. ;-) Best regards Alex Stolle
Christel L asked a question May 2015
Is the Hotel air-conditioned
Answer from HotelSI_Berlin
Berlin, Germany5 contributions
Dear Christel, 76 of our 200 rooms are equipped with air condition! We charge additional € 5 per room and night for such a room. If you like to reserve such a room we recommend to send us an email with your demands or to make the reservation on our homepage, because not in all online bookings systems you have the possibility to reserve a room with air dcondition. Dear Christel, we hope we could help you with this. For any further information please do not hesitate to contact us.
